    Jeff, I know you get more clicks and money with titles like this and I am cool with that when they first go live but after a month or two could you change it to a more descriptive title so it's easier for people to find later on? I watch nearly every video and I noticed it can be really hard to find a particular video months later. Love the channel! As a first-time home buyer, you have saved me thousands and given me the confidence to try new projects. We've done water heater, washer, dryer, dishwasher, basement sink and up flow station, sump pit and pump, replumbed the entire house from the meter, refinished wood floors, textured the ceiling, taken out walls, replaced most of the electric, lighting and fans, and so much more. You are the best!

    I thought the same thing from the beginning. Painting before everything is solid and fixed seems like a waste of time. Not the best video I've seen from Jeff. The title says "...my kitchen..." if this is really his place, it's not impressive. It's possible that the $8,000 was justified after all.

He’s now slowly dying a miserable death from lung disease. It’s horrific watching him go through this. Are those NEW doors? Or did you just paint the old ones? And, you mention, having to redo the sub-floor in the entire unit. I have a 1970 manufactured home, I am purchasing, and am pretty sure, I have to replace or upgrade the floor joists and replace the sub-floor. I would really like to see tips and examples of some of that. If possible. thanks.

    Well, your videos seem to be following or in sync with everything I need to do in my kitchen 😂. I need to rebuild my sink cabinet. Most of the horrible 80's grouted countertop is falling off around the sink. The bottom is falling in. There are no studs in this Condo, except where plumbing is. I have my plan for the bottom, plank flooring left over from 20 yrs. ago. Since there are no pipes that I have to cut around, the bottom will be easy. But, building the whole cabinet to incorporate a 31 in workstation sink is where I get stuck. All my plumbing needs to be overhauled & I can't do it. I still need to clean out & fix the upper cabinet. I have no space to set up a workspace & being a caregiver for someone else has overwhelmed me. But, your videos give me a glimmer of hope. I just hope I can get 1 thing done before it all falls apart. I appreciate all your videos. TYSM

  • @wolfc8755

    @wolfc8755

    2 ай бұрын

    You can put an oil based paint OR a latex based paint over a shellac based primer like the one Jeff used in the video. You can also use shellac based primer OVER oil based paint or latex based paint, if you are re-painting (just make sure the old painted surface is CLEAN before using (ANY!) primer, and then scuff it up a bit with some sandpaper - around 200 grit - and you only need to go over the old paint very quickly with the sandpaper, you're just trying to rough up the surface a bit. Jeff didn't need to do this because the paint was still pretty new in the video). Another consideration is that a shellac based primer is also the stinkiest of all the primers, so it's probably best to use it only for small areas (like a bit of unpaintable silicone on the wall), rather than entire rooms. Although you _could_ use it on an entire room if you really wanted to, if you had LOTS of ventilation in the room (and/or you're maybe even using a respirator of some kind). As well as having LOTS of time for the room to air out and the smell to dissipate before you need to use the room again for anything. Hope this helps.

    I really do not like that word ' outdated' when describing real estate. I find it is overused. Sometimes things are simply 'classic' . Often people spend thousands of dollars just to get the latest 'fad' .

    I'm not a contractor. How many hours did you take doing this? How much did all your tools cost? It's not a good comparison. Your time is worth $ and so are your tools. So its not a good comparison of saying you rebuilt it for $500.

    His channel isn't for contractors. It's for homeowners looking to do these jobs themselves. No homeowner should count their hours as timecost, since it goes back into value of the home. As a homeowner that gets more and more ridiculous "I don't want to do this small job so I'll quote super high" quotes I need to know the bottom line dollar cost of a methodology.

    i'm starting to dislike these videos to a point you don't realise ...if you want to teach people to be self reliant and manualy and technically competent FINE ....but ragging on contractors for asking what they consider their just retribution for their work is starting tro sound like sabotage and seeding jelousy and divisivness . Remember , these people also have families to feed and dependent work force , and there's strength and far more reaching capacities when people get together and pull out resources instead of working alone by themselves . That's how societies werew built in the first place and are maintain till today . There's nothing wrong being a free lancer and individualistic , but ragging on your neighbor for charging what they do , it's none of your busyness , you don't know what HE/SHE does , why HE/SHE does and the excuse for doing so . Quit this behaviour , it's very unbecoming and shamefull .

    @@par32 sadly i've become to the point where i'm almost inclined to agree with you . I don't agree 100% because i don't really know him , only what he puts out on YT , and sadly lately most of his videos are about ragging on other people's work . he relies on the logic i'm perceived as a good and competent person because people trust LOOKS and they tend to trust people who give them FREE ADVICE AND TEACH some tricks . , the down side is the seeding of mistrust of every one who doesn't give anything for free , it's a form of socialism , if it's free then those who provide it are GOOD PEOPLE , if someone charges you then he/she/they " are mercenaries , rapacious , ultraneoliberal disgusting capitalists " . Thank you for the feed back .

    If anyone watching this video thinks that the "$8,000 bid" that he "got" for doing what HE'S doing in this video is what the contractor was going to do, you're wrong. If you paid someone $8,000 to come in and put make up on a pig, I'm sorry, but most real contractors wouldn't even touch something like this unless it entailed gutting the kitchen and installing a new one. Then he puts a torpedo level on a 30"+ cabinet. Hilarious. Please by all means, do not think that what Jeff is doing is an apples to apples comparison of what a contractor would do for $8,000. Jeez, it's like everyone thinks they can do work as good or as quick as a contractor. I can do my businesses books, but why would I? I'm not a professional. It isn't a productive use of time and it probably wouldn't be right. You can probably remodel your kitchen, but it'll probably be shit because you're not a professional. If it's all you can afford, by all means follow this advice, but don't think you're getting the same product. It is an affront to real craftsmen that you think you can do it as good as they can when they've spend decades learning their trade.

    I don't think he implied that, he's saying the cheapest quote was 8k for new cabinets installed and probably the same butcher block top, but they wouldn't be very high quality and he might not have been able to get the color he chose for that price too. I don't see how he did it for 500 in material though, 1k seems more realistic.
