I've got a tip for you. If and when you have to cut a screw in the middle of a thread, put on a hex nut first, then cut the thread. If the thread gets damage, removing the hex nut "rethreads" that damaged end.

You can avoid nails and screws holes for you straight edge support by using CA glue and activator. Put some wide masking tape on your cabinet face then put some glue on the tape, activator on the support and press firmly 10 seconds. It holds surprisingly strong and no caulk or paint needed.

I never would've thought to use a spare board as a straight edge support for the bottom and top of the cabinet doors. Loved all the tips in the video! Also, I love the color of the cabinets! As usual, thank you, Jeff, for all the needed information!

Yay! Another video! I highly recommend a magnetic bowl from an auto store or hardware store-- I see them in auto stores mostly. They are good for holding any ferrous screws, nails, nuts, & bolts. My kitchen cabinets are face frame as well. As are my bathroom cabinets. The hinges on my kitchen cabinets are all out of whack and do not line up and some are broken now-- rusted with age. But there are a LOT of hinges and I'm struggling to find large packs of the right size ones in polished brass/gold (which is what Mom wants). The screws that came with my newer hinges were so tiny that they came right back out of the holes and the doors fell off on my vanity cabinet. I probably have to fill the holes with toothpicks like you did. The whole vanity is made of plywood, with the drawer bottoms made of wall panels. Using the board to hold the doors level is a great idea. I will have to see if that can work with my vanity and with Mom's vanity when I change out the hardware. Have to take the doors off to paint them and the cabinet to get rid of the fugly avocado green color. I wonder if using non-permanent double-sided tape would work for holding the board up or if you could us nails partway driven in to hold the doors and then pull them out more easily. They make silicone buffer dots as well that soften the closing even more. We used those on my friend's cabinets. I hate mdf! I'm going to make my new bathroom cabinets out of plywood for the boxes and some kind of wood for the face frames. That way it should be sturdier. They sell caulk condoms to put over used caulk tubes that still have caulk left in them. It preserves the caulk so it doesn't dry out and all you have to do is break through again with the caulk gun's seal breaker or a piercer that comes with the caulk saver kit. Putting the caulk on the blade to spread it is a great idea. I made the mistake of using the fuzzy rollers once. Hated the texture. They came with the roller handle thingy so I threw them out and got foam rolls. My vanity that already has the handles will have new handles put on. The chest of drawers that I am refinishing and the new cabinets will have knobs. I've had to use a dremel tool to file down bolts that were too long before.

Hey love the content and I appreciate how you show people how easily they can try and do things themselves that initially feel overwhelming! I would personally recommend using a hand screwdriver for all cabinet hardware, very easy to strip out. Also many wire strippers have small bolt cutting holes built it where you can cut on threads without ruining the threads themselves.

Fill screw holes and nail holes with plastic wood or something that doesnt shrink as badly as caulk. You'll be able to see exactly where that hole was after paint

Jeff, when you cut the knob screw mid thread, putting a nut on the screw beforehand, you can then back the nut down over the cut area to repair any screw threads that may have gotten crushed.

For templating there's a guitar luthier's trick you can try. Put masking tape on the surface and on the jig then put a couple dots of super glue in between them. It'll hold like a nail but it'll peel right off with no marks when you're done

If you run into the problem again with metal (say for a security door, replacing strike or face plate; metal piece to metal frame), you can use the same trick except with some spare wire or even solder :) - Faster than drilling bigger holes, tapping, and using larger hardware!

It has all the standard depths and widths to make its a super simple process and you can sharpie next to the holes on it for whatever you are using for the current project to make it even more foolproof.

I hope everyone notices that Jeff put in a good size sink - not a postage stamp size one - - one of my pet peeves when looking at houses: kitchens that are just for looks not for function - I chose a large elkay sink plus a small bar sink w/ integrated drain board for our kitchen reno. - I hate looking at houses that are well over 3000sq ft that only have pea size sinks in them and no dedicated laundry

26:00 i hate those old fashioned hinges because they provide no adjustment after install. However, you're right, the hidden hinges loosen up if your screw is not deep enough inside the face frame of the cabinet boxes.

Hey Jeff, curious with the hinge application. Why not screw the hinge to the door first? Since you had the jig, you could then just set the door on there and seemingly more easily attach them to the frame. I'm sure there's something I'm missing. Great content as always!

Never seen anyone intentionally screw at an angle. The screw head will look off when you open the door. As a cabinet maker this is not optimal for your client. All screw heads are to be perfectly flush with the hinge plate and the cross is to be all set at the same plus location. I am a fan Jeff. Do not take this as a slight.
