I rebuild 18V Battery for Dewalt XRP Drill

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This project is related to my previous video "Cordless Drill Restoration | Dewalt XRP 18V TYPE 1" • Cordless Drill Restora... that I restored only the drill and replace the old battery by the new one. Now I rebuild that old battery by upgrading it to Lithium battery with BMS 5S100A. This is my first project with an 18V battery pack. I find it is more different than rebuilding 12V 3S and 14.4V 4S because I spent more time in soldering. Although it was a little difficult, I learned something new from it. I feel really satisfied with this result, the battery is performing very well.
Battery Rebuild Items
- 5 cells of Lithium battery 18650 3.7V 3200mAh
- 1 BMS 5S100A
- 1 Buck Converter
- 1 Power Charger 42V
- 8 Battery Brackets
I hope you find something useful & enjoy this video!
I'm happy to receive your feedback, advice, suggestions to improve myself.
You are welcome to ask the question, I will try to answer your question ask I can.
!!! I apologize for the mistake if I have made in this restoration !!!
**I still keep some parts, I want to save the world's environment**

Let me give You little hint. Please start using thicker cables when You are connecting B+ and B- to BMS and from BMS to battery connectors. There is a lot of amps there. Your cables looks like 1,5mm² or around this. Look how thick original cables are. Its for Your safety. White ones in this video are good for balancing but not for carry load like 50A...

Also the lithium cells used here are no way near rated for the current needed under heavy load. This is not a safe build.

I like the fact that you don't complicate yourself when making these batteries. I've seen a few other battery makers try to combine various types to get the most power possible and it seems like such a risk for what is an unrealistic reward. In other words, too good to be true. I'd rather + the original by a decent margin and have a dependable battery rather than a potential risk. So kudos on that too.

Disagree. I refuse to spend 100 USD or more for genuine NiCd battery, because they aren't made anymore (screwdriver is obsolete, but still works). Besides NiCd degrades by months if not in use.

Same system and same board that I used. I didn't have the proper diameter piece of plastic that you did, so I drilled out the dead NiCad. It charges fine in the DeWalt charger. I have heard people say that theirs didn't. The only difference I can imagine is that I left the 10K termistor attached... Maybe the DeWalt charger checks for that...

Awesome video! For those of us who don’t have a nice spot welding machine like yours, do you know another way to connect the batteries together? Is traditional soldering an option? Love the channel-subscribed!

  • @catsnotcops_

    @catsnotcops_

    Жыл бұрын

Since no one answered yet. Yes, soldering is an option, if done correctly. You mustn't overheat the cells, therefore you need a soldering iron with at least 80W and big and solid tip, so you only have to touch the cell for a max of 2-3 seconds for the solder to flow. I have seen tests where, if done correctly, it doesn't affect the capacity of the cells at all.
