Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This KZread channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

Not to mention this video helped me with my mentality. I usually shoot mid 70’s to low 80’s, but played absolutely horribly my last round, and had lost all confidence by the end. It’s nice to see a guy like Rick can have a bad day, and that’s just golf for ya.

I agree! The last time I played I posted a 103, despite the fact I recently took lessons and thought I’d figured a few things out. There’s no doubt that I have improved, but the fact is I’m capable of posting and 85 or a 105. This is a cool video because it shows a skilled golfer struggling like we all do. I’d say most of us relate to this more than we would if he shot a 75.

Rick, I think I can speak for a lot of people who watch you play and especially your break 75 episodes, bring a lot of us relief from a lot of stressful aspects of our lives. I’ve struggled with depression most of my life and have always had to come to terms with the fact nobody is perfect. Watching your videos makes me feel more relaxed at the end of the day because sometimes I can’t get out to play golf and watching you gives me a reprieve from my own stresses. We all have terrible days, but we also have days that put those terrible days into perspective. Please don’t ever give up and know that we all love you and we love watching you play no matter how good or bad you shoot it’s about the experience not the score. We love you buddy!

This is why I love Rick. He's one of us. We all have to put effort into being good. You can be doing all the right things and making strides. All of a sudden, BOOM a huge step back. To be honest tho, this is why we all keep on coming back. 2 steps forward and 1 step back but that one step back humbles us and makes us want to stride forward again. Rounds like this keeps us hungry to be that ever learning student of the game. Great content Rick, thank you for showing that you are indeed human. You have to know that your videos, good or bad, help millions of golfers every day.

Sometimes you just have those rounds where everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Feels like they pop up the moment you start to feel like you have the game figured out. I was finally able to hit par about a month ago and felt like I was in the groove. Went out last weekend feeling confident, hit a 91. Shots landing in the fairway were in natural low points, shots that missed were catching tree roots and launching out of bounds. Even had a shot that was intended to be a nice little bump and run catch a sprinkler head just off the green and fly right back at my face. Sometimes it just isn’t your day.

Just started watching the video so haven't got to the part yet where Rick says he was embarrassed of his behavior but all I can say is that I'm thankful that some of my behavior during bad play wasn't on film. I actually credit Rick and other youtubers for changing my embarrassing behavior, I was guilty of swearing, being rude to opponents/friends and even a breaking clubs a time or two when things went south but when I started watching youtubers some 10 years ago and how they respectfully the vast majority behave it suddenly changed my mindset and thankfully I stopped behaving like that. Looking back in my head I really can't believe how childish I used to act while playing something that you're supposed to do for fun.

Rick, have watched you since July of 2021 when I first started actually wanting to get better at golf. Back then I was lucky to shoot in the 90s, I broke 90 one time all of 2021 in October thanks to your help. This summer I was consistently in the 90s, I think I may have shot in the 100s 3 times all summer throughout like 40 rounds and those were because I was already doing so bad I just messed around and had fun instead of caring about my score. This fall I have been consistently breaking 90, this week alone for example I shot an 89 on thursday, an 89 on saturday, and an 81 on sunday. The rounds you think are the worst you've ever played are some peoples round of their summer. That's how I like to think about it. When I'm shooting in the high 90s mad I didn't break 90 I'm also thinking most people who play golf can't break 100 and would be proud to shoot a 97. This 88 on a break 75 series was more relatable than you could ever achieve with a 74. We are all human, we all have bad days, the thing to think about though is you got to experience the pleasure of a bad day playing the greatest game on earth. Any day golfing is a good day. I once skulled a greenside bunker shot 60 yards over the green and it bounced off a house's back door and then sank a 40 footer on 18 for up and down infront of a packed terrace and recieved a roaring ovation in the same round. It's a beautiful sport, appreciete the beauty in a bad round of golf once in a while, you'll learn a thing or two every time.

Please don't stop doing Break 75! This round wasn't your best but people watch you because you are relatable and you help us aspire to better golf. I have been following you for a while now and I can honestly say, you, Guy, Peter Finch and Matt Fryer have inspired me back to playing golf after 10 years. Just finished a round of golf today and I was just happy to be there. Hit a few fairways and nearly chipped in twice. Without you and the others I would not be back playing. So please keep up the great work because you are helping many of us out there.

That’s golf man, watch your next round be one of your most consistent. We hit a good shot and then hit bad shots and endlessly chase that feeling like a dog chasing after a car. Even pros have bad rounds, there’s a pro that had a scorecard just posted where he had a 17 on a par 4 and was -4 before he got that 17. Shit happens 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm still trying to get good at golf but because of your inspiration I keep at it. I watch your break 100 and 90 videos for course management. You will always be the inspiration needed before a game because you will always keep on playing regardless of how your round is going. Don't be too hard on yourself. Next game you will be back and hit that 1 shot that inspires me to get out there and keep at it.

If being a PRO athlete was easy, everyone would be a PRO athlete. You have had a reminder that golf is hard, and just when you think you have the game beat, it will beat you! You have helped me in my journey to learning golf so much, and I joined the golf game late in life.. I just turned 42 years old, and I have been playing now for the start of my 3rd year. I have wanted to quit so many times in my journey, but I then take a breather, relax, and remember what I have been learning. I have done everything without a single paid for lesson, only what I have learned from you Rick, and few others. I have shot over 100, and I have shot a 72 as my lowest score to date.. Golf is not an easy sport to learn, play, and win!!! Golf can't be won, only played.

Kudos for showing all your followers that this is what golf can do to you no matter what your handicap. I remember a low handicap golfer told me when I asked how to make my game better,he said cut 12 inches from the grip of each club, i said would that improve my game and he said NO! Hi Rick, I have a suggestion. Issue: you seem to consistenty hit your irons with a lower trajectory and a draw which results in a ball travelling further than you want and not being able to stop the ball close to the pin . Possible Solution: Might sound weird but try it. The best way I can describe it is... "Put a Loop in your Swing" So instead of bringing your hands straight back when starting your backswing... focus on bringing your hands on an outside path for approx the first 2 feet. I'm not talking club face, just your hands. Don't even use a club to start, just get the feel of your hands moving outside your normal line for the first 2 feet of your takeway. After that, just complete your normal swing. Improvements you should look for: higher trajectory, and straighter lines so just aim at the pin and fire away. Try the same "Loop" when you are chipping. You will see better contact, more loft, better feel for distance, much easier to hit from tighter lies. I brought this into my game about 2 years ago. Was a low to mid 80's player. Now I'm a low to mid 70's player. I'm now 60 and drive the ball maybe 250 yds so to play in the low 70's your irons and chipping have to be very good. Plus when playing from the whites I have the opportunity to shoot in the 60's which makes the game a lot more fun. Good Luck with the "The Loop", hope it works for you.

The content and interaction between the pair of you is just fantastic and makes the video so relatable to the average golfer. We feel your joy when things are going well (yes, there have been times :-), but I'm sure many other viewers like me feel your frustration when things are not going well. The reassurance I get from watching a good player like yourself having an off day reminds me that the professional game we see on our screens is at a level few of us could ever comprehend. I was so excited to go to the range and try it, and I couldn't hit it well at all either. It was very discouraging. I decided that it just wasn't a day for golf. I'll try again here soon. Sheild is just another money-making bullshit KZreadr trying to pretend he is a golfer. What is his message to the average golfer who wants to improve? All he does is complain, in every show he does. It's the same thing over and over. No way would I let him give me a lesson. Such a negative person, not the type of person to give confidence in one's self. Mabey that's the theme of his show? Make everyone who plays golf like him depressed. He gives me no hope to improve my game, that's why I would find a qualified PGA coach with a more positive persona to help me improve my game, not that twat.

I just watched this. You played a hard course and had a rough day. It happens to the best of us. I'll tell you a little story. My girlfriends dad is a golf pro. I usually shoot par or just under. I finally "got" to play with him a whike back. She had been bragging to him about how good of a golfer I was and maybe she finally found someone to keep up with him. So we went to a little 9 hole course a D played a round. I played the absolute worst golf of my life. On a course that I routinely play at 5-7 under par I shit the bed. I shot 10 over. His parting words were "I thought you said he could golf " as he was shaking my hand and walked away. We all have our bad days. You have improved my game so much. Thank you.

Golf is indeed hard. I'll simply say thanks for sharing, it is very much appreciated! Years ago I played a few times per week and that summer I played the most consistent golf in my life. My scores were between 80 and 87 with one exception. Most of this was on a not-too-difficult 6700 yard (125 slope) course, but it carried over to the other courses I played. Late in the summer I was invited to go play with a friend on a 6500 yard (140 slope) private course. My goal was to stay under 90 and play smart. 18 holes later I had been kicked in every conceivable way... mentally and physically. After what may be the worst round of golf I've ever played, which included 2 birdies, 1 par, and a hooked tee shot that cleared a house on the course, the street in front of it, and the house on the other side of the street I was ready to drop my clubs in the river. The result? 32 over... my goal of 90... a staggering 122.

I stopped keeping score but i'm sure I was on pace for 110. I couldn't understand going from high 80's to probably over 100. And i've been thinking about it day and night for days now. This just shows, some days you just really dont have it and theres nothing else to it. Just gotta move on and tee up again ;)

Man, I’m glad I’m not the only one. I shot an 83 a couple months ago, 5 strokes better than my best. Haven’t broke 90 since then.

Like you said sometimes the game just isn't there. I feel like a lot of these kind of days has to do with the mental half of the game. At least with me I feel like those days are when I go to the course in a shit mood or something along those lines and it just carries into my round without me really noticing that was the issue to begin with, just thinking my game is shit which in turn makes the round even worse. Anger and emotion really destroys rounds!

The weirdest part for me is how I get better at golf everyday. Controlling my shots, distance, height, spin. Escaping bunkers well, putting 1,2 times a hole. But still my score just stays flat. Never improves or gets worse. No matter how much better I get.

To be fair mate you have cameras and entertaining us on your mind and can’t be 100% game focused, credit for posting though, gives us lesser golfers a bit of a lift as well as some good entertainment. Enjoying your channel 👍

So just to ease your mind, I have bought and entire pack of 8 faulty light bulbs. Near lost my mind trouble shooting till it clicked. Also replaced a starter solenoid in a VW van with a faulty brand new one and pulled the entire engine out trouble shooting, till we considered the brand new part might be faulty. I know pain and suffering well, had a chiro break my back before a national tournament that was to lead to tour play and the big show and played in the event anyway in monumental near suicidal level pain. “Tiz but a flesh wound” for the mind what you have going on. You are a genuine great fellow to watch, you put together great stuff for us to escape with, to help survive getting ripped apart by life and disappointment and for that thank you. I will say, if I may, careful not to let Fail Mode set in. It is ruthless and left unchecked, can set in like a beer belly and start to spill over into other areas of life. Second point, maybe a longer take away with less wrist action on take away and impact, shorter swing with bigger shoulder turn. Tiger stinger for test(no wrist action at all). Need you at your best when this Titan is fully resurrected and you accept the challenge you were to frightened to take on at the British Open by the driving range. I am coming, best be ready.

I love that you still post even these videos. Not because I like to watch you suffer. But because it's REAL. It's golf. And even in times like this, your pure passion for the game comes through. It's SUCH a mental thing. A bad stretch is so hard to break out of. But you're too good to suffer for too long. Keep putting this out there and we'll keep loving it!
