I adore how you talk about books, you are so comforting to hear to talk in general, and talking about books in such depth is so lovely as well❤

I love this concept for a video - always fun to see what’s ranked lowest/highest and then what your rating is. Currently on the tandem read of TOG! Manon might be one of my favorite book characters of all time.

Glad you like the video! OH MANON 😍😍😍
As someone who is working to publish her first book, and writing the second (it's going to be a trilogy) I often find myself wondering "What would Jaime say about this?" I do hope to send you my first book once I finally get enough money to publish it. Currently I am reading the 3rd book of the Orphan X series by Gregg Hurwitz. It's called Hellbent. I have to say, this series is one I highly recommend. I've rated the first 2 books 5 stars because I was so invested in the story. Any other Orphan X fans in here?

Hmmmm if you don’t vibe so much with the mistborn series I would recommend Brandon Sanderson’s other main series, the Way of Kings! From what I can remember he didn’t overexplain things and just generally I preferred the Way of Kings’ characters, vibes, plot…. One of my favourite books whilst mistborn (which I did love) was more of a 4 star for me :)

I definitely understand your Brandon Sanderson criticism I think he has said that he writes at a mid-grade level so it’s accessible to all readers. I have heard the Stormlight archives are even better than the Mistborn series though… so maybe those would be worth a try. I am currently reading Caraval, and Someone to build a Nest in.

@@jaimefok The whole book is essentially a letter from a son to his mother wo can't read due to not being able to receive a proper education thx to the Vietnamese war, the mom, grandmother and son have immigrated to the US and he tells us about his experiences and relationship with his mother through this letter he wrote in his late twenties for her. The writing is BEAUTIFUL and incredibly sad
So these works are his earlier works, didn’t feel this with The Way of Kings. The Mistborn Trilogy is my least favorite series of his, and I soft DNF’d Tress(its new but different tone) Read Stormlight, it’s so good!

Ok this is good to know!! Everyone just told me to start with mistborn 😂
Ohhh I kinda get what you mean when you say Sanderson explains a lot, but I didn't feel like it made my reading worst. The only thing I feel is lacking in his writing is the extremely simple/casual way of writing. I personally prefer a slightly more elevated writing for fantasy, for example The Justice of Kings by Richard Swan.

I feel like there’s just not enough emotion in it as well or something.
I actually would love to know what you think gets negated at the end of Well of Ascension! I’ve read the trilogy already but it’s been a while so I don’t remember enough details to grasp what you meant, I think!

gonna hide this because spoilers belowwwww . . . . . . It’s the rubbing that Sazed did that changed from the metal inscription. It did get more explained in Hero of Ages now that I’ve just finished that book as well- but it seemed so out of the blue for me in this one!
have you read anything by Roselle Lim? all her books also center around Chinese matchmaking and fortune telling with a lot of delicious food imagery!

I think you are the first person whom I find and has the same impressions about Brando Sando writing! I'm so happy, I was nearly sure there was something wrong with me 😂 I do love his stories, characters (especially side ones) magic systems, but I space out these books, cause I cannot bare the over explaining and slowing down the action. It's like a love-hate relationship 😅 but I will still read and enjoy his books despite that. Fantastic video as always!

Good one!!
I agree completely with your thoughts on Sanderson, which is rare! His stories are interesting but the repetition of the same sentences and words bores me. I also agree with your thoughts on the ending, the feeling of everything they were building towards not mattering. Unfortunately I felt the same way about book 3. I do want to give The way of kings a shot but I somehow know I won't love it as much as I want to.
