me too!! i was wondering if maybe the double up on romance plots ? (i was thinking it would work well with eloise and penelope's plotlines since they happen so close together, but also, i dont know if they are going to unalive marina at this point)... or maybe they'll just cut francesca because she literally doesn't exist in the books/show until her own book hahahaha

I would love to see the show reach to 8 seasons because I really enjoyed some of the later storylines, much more than the earlier ones. I read all 8 books too (and the 2nd epilogues book) in preparation for season 2, and I have come to the conclusion that I need to be the bane of someone's existence LOL. My fave book was The Viscount Who Loved Me and my least favorite, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. I enjoyed your review.

i really hope it does too because the banter and conversations were so entertaining in the later books (also because im in favor of some of the changes that they made in the storylines)-im personally praying they change up penelope/colin and eloise/sir phillip (i truly don't know how they will manage this one). oh, and also make francesca more relevant!! she hasn't come out at all in the show (i felt that was why i didn't connect to her book as much in comparison to the other siblings unfortunately). And i too need to be the BANE OF SOMEONE'S EXISTENCE !! 😩

And well I don’t think it was Colin’s fault for the most part of him hurting her feelings , it would’ve been more sour if he strung her along. To me I saw it as he needed to grow and stop being immature and stop worrying about what other people thought and to realize what he liked because (like all generations) they were told to only like a certain woman. I never thought about the weight thing but I still think that didn’t have much a part to play because they still made it seem as if she was bigger than the norm . Also Michael was his cousin/brother

thank you so much!! it was really outside of my comfort zone and took a lot of work but im quite pleased with the result!!! we stan kanthony, hate colin in this house!!!

My absolute favorite was Colin’s story and it’s my favorite couple , I really related to the book and it was just lovely. My 2nd favorite is Anthony’s story . I was little iffy about it because I hated the show but I had to remind myself I can’t judge the book based on the show. 3rd is Daphnes story, then it’s between Hyacinth and Eloise’s story , theirs were pretty simple (moreso Elsoises) and I just enjoyed the simplicity of it and it was constant for me and to the point . (With these I love how it was consistent and we got the other half of the book with them being married and got to see how they were in marriage) The ones I hated were Benedict’s story: people said how they loved it and I get why because the whole Cinderella vibe but it took extremely unnecessarily TOO long to get to the point! Literally the last 2 chapters are about them and they were freaking lame. I felt I would’ve liked it IF it didn’t take so long to get to the point. Just finished Gregory’s and I was so confused, it was bland, and again took too long to get to the point. The characters like Lucy weren’t consistent enough for me. The inner monologue was RIDICULOUS! I literally skipped pages because why is it taking 4 pages for a thought? I don’t mind simple because again Eloise’s and hyacinths book were simple but this was just bland. And it just felt like JQ gave up at this point , it doesn’t even feel like she tried. Didn’t care for Francesca’s after a certain because again took too long to get to the point. But for most the books I did enjoy the after story , the only 2 that irked me was of course Gregory’s and Hyacinths because her daughter made me mad 😂)

sorryy for the delay -- i was with limited access. and yes i definitely agree with your overall theme of the pacing in julia quinns books being off the mark quite a bit. I will mention i think in the show they had to change the premise of Anthony and Kate getting together because they couldn't have another accidental compromising situation lol !! with time, i have grown to like colin and penelopes story more, i just realized that i think the time frame of 10 years was too long for me to realistically ship them, but i am so looking forward to how they manage season 3 !!

I really enjoyed your ranking. What they did really well in the TV series was fleshing out the women characters, esp. the older ones, and using Whistledown as a plot point. And I totally agree the main couple in s2 was breathtaking.

thank you!! and I agree with you 100%. In the books Lady Featherington is a total airhead and I loved the take they took on her (and of course I will always love how much they focus on Violet Bridgerton & Lady Danbury aka the best characters of them all). I think they balanced the subplots vs the main romance much better this season overall, so we could see the palpable chemistry between Kate & Anthony.

I do disagree with most of your opinions on the books but I loved hearing them ! Awesome video 💖

Nooooo don’t read them they r mostly bad !!

I just wanted to say that Widow characters and characters who are portrayed as Prostitutes are important to me and so I was very excited to hear about When He is Wicked and was actually considering going through the previous books just to get to this book, even though I do not like romance, but you are like the second person who has said that they are very lukewarm about this book, so I'm not gonna do it I guess.

i didn't mention it in the video, but while i was reading the book, and taking notes, i have to admit that I thought the widow aspect of the story was done exceptionally well (especially considering that the new love interest was her late husband's best friend/cousin). If you like widow storylines (i don't know any books that have main characters as prostitutes, but i welcome them if you have any recommendations!), I would recommend Devil's Daughter by Lisa Kleypas! I haven't read this book personally, as I only got to book 4 of that series, but Lisa Kleypas' historical romances are far superior to Quinn's!

Really great video. I am obsessed with Kanthony, their chemistry is insane, so I decided to read (or more precisely listen to) Viscount Who Loved Me. I am in the middle and I hate Anthony - what a misogynistic violent asshole. Kate seems to more insecure than strong, and she actually wants to get married but she thinks that due to her ancient age and Edwina being so beautiful she will most likely not. Plus all that emphasis that she is just a "plain Jane" irks me so fcking much (I am so happy that the TV show not once tried to implied that Kate is anything but stunning). What a huge letdown this book is so far. I will finish but uff... there were moments where I was literally screaming in frustration while listening to it. I am so so so glad they made all those changes in the series. TV Anthony even when frustrated never seemed violent towards Kate and is in general much more redeemable - which cannot be said about the asshole book Anthony.

Thank you !! 💗 and I agree completely with everything you said about Book Anthony (and most of the love interests except Gareth in book 7 are overtly misogynistic and violent)! And don’t get me started about how plain they describe her 🤬🤬 I really wouldn’t recommend the rest of the books though because it’s all the same. I will say, they did a total u-haul with Anthony’s personality from season 1 and It was all for the better bc we were about to get book Anthony if they hadn’t… So overall, even though they sacrificed most of the steamy scenes it was well worth the amazing chemistry between Kate and Anthony in the TV series and the likable Anthony Bridgerton hahaha

@@nikkilpzs Thank your for the recommendation not to read the rest of the books - from what I'm hearing I would probably dislike them as well - apart from the more than problematic male leads it also angers me that Penelope needs to loose weight before she is "allowed" to be a main love interest. I also worry that they will follow Eloise's book love interest which IMO would be a total character assassination - at least when it comes to TV Eloise. Also due to being so smitten by Kanthony, I have rewatched Anthony's scene from Season 1 and let me tell you - Anthony is much more sympathetic and he makes so much more sense after learning about his background from Season. More importantly even in Season 1, TV Anthony is never violent (when it comes to women), and he can be an asshole but he is never callous (as he is in the book). Plus he respects Sienna and does not treat her just as some object to satisfy his needs. Basically TV Anthony may be an asshole but he never crosses the line. There were even scenes where I was on his side when he was fighting with Simon or Violet.

@@lenusniq_9746 the penelope losing weight being a factor of her glow up will always grate on my last nerve and i am praying that they DON'T do that in the series. Collin is my least favorite Bridgerton so we shall see.. and Eloise's book was an entire character assassination and i will never forgive julia quinn for it!!! Also, very interesting to hear your take on Anthony S1!! I will definitely have to rewatch season 1 sometime soon to compare.

I am still not finished with the 2nd season. I will definitely not read the books because I am sure there's so many better books out there now, especially with queer characters and characters of color. I love that the show tries to incorporate at least characters of color more. This was a very interesting video. :)

there are wayyy better books out there!! for more diverse historical romances i would recommend checking out author beverly jenkins (her old west series looks spicy!!!), olivia waite, and courtney milan (she writes sapphic romance if you are looking for that) !!

Gareth sucked in my opinion, he was definitely worse than Gregory. Gareth wanted to “ruin” hyacinth so he could marry her.

Ugh bless you for reading these and slogging through them. I had to quit after reading RMB and TSPWL. RMB was boring, and then TSPWL was just god awful.
