Ian! We need a video dedicated to ranking Stephen King books! 😃

Yes, but can we do a ranking on the horror, non fiction, and not horror books. I could not finish It, and I got very far in it. For maybe a bit over a year, I could not walk near a storm drain.

Ouch! I loved Mistborn! Let me go sit in a corner and cry for a little bit and decompress, so I can come back and give you a hug and tell you a still appreciate you... 🤣
I’m sad that you didnt like Mistborn but I also understand. As someone who loved the series Vin was never my favorite character and I didnt really start feeling for her till the end of book 2. Kelsier carried me hard through book 1. Love him

Agreed! Kelsier and Elend got me through book one more than Vin. But the more I read the more I love Vin's character
Such a loveable goofball who is also clearly very intelligent. You’re one of my comfort KZreadrs, just like your wife. I get so excited when I see y’all post.
Wild things are said about Mistborn, wow.
Iannn!!!! My man! How have u still never made a bad video brother it’s crazy! I can’t believe how far you’ve come and so honoured to have been there since the beginning. I’m so grateful to be apart of this community that saved me in more ways than once. You truly do care about us and it’s so amazing to see. All the love brotha an intimate reading associate foreverrr!!!!! God bless
I would love to see you do a ranking of the King books you have read. And you could do future episodes of it as you read more. 🙏
That’s a lot of books. I really like Assassin’s Apprentice as well, specifically for the prose. It stinks that you didn’t like Mistborn, but I think with Brandon it’s either you love it or you hate it. You may still want to try Stormlight, the prose are a bit better, but he’ll never wow you. For me, with Brandon, it’s the worldbuilding. If you don’t like that, there’s not much else I think. The characters are good, but I don’t think they’re great. I haven’t read much of Stormlight, so maybe all of the great characters are in it. I know everyone loves Dalinar and Kaladin.
There's something very comfy about these videos.
Woah Nelly I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone genuinely dislike Mistborn! The Brando Sando fan girlies are quakinggg🤣 So many good points on that one! Robin Hobb? Absolute queen.

Mistborn was such a slog, it took a few months of trying to force myself to read it. Let me tell you sir, not worth reading at all. I’m not saying Sando is a boring writer (this was an early book of his in his career) I’m just saying that it’s not worth reading if you are a moderate reader of more than one genre besides fantasy.

@@curtisjay34 sounds good was just checking since Sanderson is heavily influenced by Jordan even finished WoT I suspect you will dislike it. They even mention book 7-9 as the slog since he will go on for chapters describing troop movements. Some people love it some hate it.
Wow, I'm so shocked you loved the Lies of Locke Lamora over Mistborn! I DNFed Lamora because while I understood the dark humor, I could not get past how unlikeable Locke was. I have friends who dislike Sanderson too, but I love his characters! I admit Vin's not the traditional hero, but I loved her growth of confidence and trust in a found family. I will admit, the magic system went over my head at times, but I loved the plot! Book 2 is my least favorite in the trilogy, but you may enjoy it because it's more politics heavy and there's multiple pov's. Book 3 is also very politics heavy, but it does fully commit to exploring the magic system. . . . I also commend you for reading Gone With The Wind (that is an EPIC BRAG).

Pretty much my feeling! I just can't like thieves that don't even have any goals except thieving. I like ASOIAF, so it's not the dark themes or anything... I did end up finishing it, and it is certainly a GOOD book. It's just that it's very much not for me. And I love Mistborn, yeah...

@@kristen7623 lol yeah, I need to start The Stormlight Archives. I'm currently reading through the Skyward series, which I wasn't expecting to love because I'm not a big sci-fi reader. However, Sanderson knows how to write epic stories and I'm enjoying the dystopian elements to it.

@@SupremeDP Yeah, I just couldn't understand what the MC's goal was aside from 'not dying.' I was hoping that Locke would have some kind of redemption moment, but he was just too bull headed. Tbh I kind of gave up ACOTAR after the third book. . . I couldn't handle the spice 😅.
I am glad you liked Gone with the Wind! I am reading the sequel now! It is called Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley. I loved Rhett Butler he is the one that makes the book.
I'm fairly surprised you didn't like Mistborn, I understand the dislike of the characters, I would say try the way of Kings. And if you don't like it then Brandon Sanderson is probably not for you. because the way of kings has Sanderson's best characters for sure
@kpark2024
Ай бұрын
Yes I would second this! I think you would like the Way of Kings series, it’s my first series by Brando Sando & I’m enjoying it a lot! I’m almost done with Oathbringer then on to Rhythm of War🫶🏾
I'm so glad you're liking Robin Hobb's Realm of The Elderlings series! I started it a year ago and am currently on book 8 of 16. I'm not usually a massive fantasy reader, much less such a long series, but that's just how good this story is! the characters shine so beautifully, I really hope you continue it to see just how amazing it keeps being.
I'll be the odd one out and say I think The Final Empire is the best book in the first Mistborn trilogy, but I do think you'll love Era 2 of Mistborn. It's basically an epic fantasy western.

I actually agree with you. The best to me out of the trilogy was Final Empire, Hero of Ages was good as well but Well of Ascension was painfully slow for me

I agree with that, as well. I was seriously taken back by him saying he disliked it so much. I've read over 700 fantasy books (over the past 30 years) and The Final Empire sits very high up on my list.
I hope the final empire doesn’t deter you from the the storm light archive. I’ve had my issues with the MistBorn series and I DNFd the way of kings but after I mustard though to a certain point it is one of my favorite books ever. I feel like you owe it to your self to at least try Way of kings.
You're hands down my favorite booktuber, and I love watching your wife as well! I would request, maybe even demand, that you give Your Blood, My Bones by Kelly Andrews a try. I devoured that book, it was so good and really pulls at the heart strings. Supernatural horror YA and one of my favorite reads this year! Thanks for the reading inspo, btw! I've just added some of these books to my Amazon cart waiting for Prime Days!

Nooo Ian i cant believe you dont like Mistborn !! I still love your vids though for your honest review ! Great vid as always
wish he would put amazon links in the video description for each of these books. Makes research easier. God bless!
So glad you are enjoying Gentlemen Bastard series- hope for news update from Lynch later this year Surprised by your Mistborn review, but at least you gave it a shot or 5 shots
Boy's Life is genuinely the best book I have ever read! I can't get over how good that book is.
I finished the Mistborn series but also not a big Sanderson fan so I get it. Can't wait to see you get further into Robin Hobb. My favorite fantasy writer 🙂

Great video, I’ve added 5 to my TBR! I love how you’re not stuck in one genre and how diverse your reading is. New subscriber!
Very excited to get into Robin Hobb’s books! I am currently reading Valor in John Gwynne’s The Faithful and The Fallen series and DANG. Freaking loving them! Robin Hobb is next though for sure!
Best wrap up video by anyone!
maybe try era 2 of Mistborn, its completely different in tone and feel. some plot points of era 1 might be spoiled but you dont need to know anything going in. But it helps to have a basic idea of the magic system
You and Ashlynn convinced me to read Red Rising. Holy smokes what a good series. Totally thought it was a complete series but hey it was so so good.
I’m also reading the Farseer trilogy I started book two but I got distracted with the Well of Ascension by Sanderson!

The Well of Ascension is amazing. That trilogy, as a whole, is incredible. There's just so much that he wove into that story, so many seeds planted from the very beginning, and it has a great ending. It also has the best hard magic system out there.
wow reading 20 books in 3 months is a great feat! I have only read 13 since the beginning of the year 😅 and your love and enthusiasm about the Kings books make me want to reread them again. 11/22/63 is my all time favorite and Billy Summers is one of my top King books. Dancing is life 😉
I read the Farseer Trilogy last month. I too agree that Robin Hobb is great. I’m reading the rest of the Realm of the Enderlings books.
Great video Ian , thank you for sharing x I have never read a Stephen King novel but from watching your videos and how highly u speak of them I want to start. Went to the charity shop yesterday and there were 4 of his books , bought them all and im so excited to read them , thank you so much x
Great video. I really liked the format which kept me engaged in a fun way. Good job. You may have actually gotten me convinced to try an Emily Henry. I have never navigated towards romance (and have no draw to that genre) but I do like stories about psychology and what motives people (at times, not in every book). Hence, maybe I could enjoy one. If I do, I will let you know.
You chose some of my absolute favorite Stephen King novels…I loved 11/22/63! I totally agree that it is a brilliant blend of historical fiction and elements that King is known for. Definitely a great entry book. Mr. Mercedes and the rest of the Holly Gibney series are also fantastic stories. Loved them so much, although much darker. I just picked up the Scott Lynch books and am excited to read them. Great video!
Currently in the middle of Doctor Sleep. Actually pausing your (delightful) video to read a chapter or two.
Lies of Locke Lamora is one of my favorite series by far!!! It’s fantastic! Also I could easily have dropped mistborn after book 1 and been fine with it. I wasn’t the biggest fan of it myself. The magic system was amazing and that is it (for me). You are the reason I’m a Stephan King fan! Keep doing a great job!
Parker series. Get ready for some of the greatest crime writing. Just know Butcher's Moon is probably one of the darkest. It was also the original ending to the series. Stark/Westlake picked up writing the series 20 something years later. Not skipping a beat. There is a side series of four books that follows one of Parker's friends. Yes he has one. Love your videos.
Oooooof you gonna piss off a lot of booktubers with the sanderson takes lmao. I gotta start getting into Robin Hobb
Awesome video 💯‼️Ian you are the only Mae book tuber that is my favourite
I chuckled my way through your video, especially at the Boys Life/It comparison! I read my 1st Steven King book this year because of you. Billy Summers was an instant 5⭐️Love your content! ❤
11/22/63 is so good! I agree 100% with your 5 star review.
So now I have a bunch of new books for my TBR. I loved 11/22/63. Will have to try several of these books.
I've been reading The Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey and I would love to hear your thoughts on those books. They are labeled as YA but I really feel like they are more adult than that. They give me Edger Alan Poe and Stephen King's vibes. Also I really love your channel you're doing a great job !!!
I’m thankful to see I wasn’t the only one that wasn’t a huge fan of Mistborn. I finished The Final Empire, and while I found the ending unique and surprising, I wasn’t a huge fan of the book as a whole at all. It took a long time to get through, just because I found myself repeatedly drawn elsewhere. I want to like Sanderson. I own the first two books of Stormlight, hoping I will like them. Also, between you and Mike (Mike’s Book Reviews), I’ve never been more convinced to try Stephen King and I never thought I’d say that. Will be picking up Billy Summers soon.
I really enjoyed the Mercedes Trilogy! :)

I read assassins apprentice less than a year ago and now I'm ten books into realm of the elderlings i lovee Robin Hobb's writing so much

That's wild about Cormac's non-use of certain grammatical marks. I read "No Country for Old Men" recently and barely noticed. If you're on the fence about his work I highly recommend it. My wife just recently read "Funny Story" and loved it, gonna give it a whirl. I'm currently slogging through "The Ever King" for a work book club, meh.... Imma finish it but I've set it aside for now and read 104 pages of "Neverwhere" yesterday. My wife and I have our own bookclub. We read authors or works we've never read, together. This month was "Billy Summers" our first Stephen King fiction, I've read "One Writing". We both gave it 5/5 stars! Thanks for the content!

I'm with Ian here. I read The Road recently and I just found it written in such a boring way. I enjoyed the world. I liked the bleakness and the feeling of hopelessness. I'm no stranger to these kinds of stories to say the least. There is just nothing to this book personally. Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle as some people say. I also found the ending very lackluster. Again, I get it, this world is harsh and unforgiving but even in such worlds, other stories have actually made me feel something, be engaged with something, wanting to continue reading for some reason. The only reason I finished The Road was just because it's such a short book. Sure the page count is 300 something but formatting it to a more "regular" book, it's around 150 at most.
Very awesome video. I don't really like Wrap ups, but in this way it was really fun. Great short summaries, short speedy reviews. Awesome. I'm very glad you enjoyed Assassin's apprentice. Welcome to the Robin Hobb fan club 😂🎉
Ian, you are hilarious😅
I have strange feelings about The Kingdom of liars series. I thought the first book was above average, the second book went somewhere unexpected but not in a good way for me, but for some reason I cannot stop thinking about the third book. I think about it weekly, if not daily. I have a couple issues with part of the plot and some of the characters. I think at the time I would've given the entire series a 3.75/5 but the more that it sits with me the more I love it. I can't explain it. It does so many things that don't work for me as a reader but I think I love it. Whatever else Nick Martell writes I'll read.
Im so glad you finally read Lies of Locke Lamora and Assassin’s Apprentice. I think we have similar taste now that I see your opinions on those books (:
This was such a good video concept. Love the short reviews. Definitely, don't waste time on books that aren't interesting. Life is too short and there are too many good books to waste your time on books you aren't interested in! 😊
I don't like Vin (or Elend) either but still enjoyed the Mistborn series overall 😅
Ian you do a truly amazing job reading books. ?
I picked up Billy Summers from the library today because of your recommendation! Really need to read Assassin’s Apprentice and The Lies of Locke Lamora. LOVED Funny Story and Beach Read!! Too bad you didn’t like Mistborn. I read the first book and liked it but haven’t gotten back to the series yet. I’m obsessed with The Stormlight Archive right now though 😍😍
I was literally holding The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry in my hand and skipped this part of the video. 😅 Promise to go back when I’m done reading it to see your review.
Excited for u to continue the Mercedes trilogy 😁
Such a joy to watch this. I've started reading some Stephen King recently and I can't wait to read more of his works.
You need to try listening to Mistborn through Graphic Audio, you'll change your mind
I personally love mistborn but i think stormlight archive is more up your ally.
Honestly if you did not enjoy The Final Empire you most likely wont like the rest of the Mistborn books. Personnally it is one of my favorite series - but it doesnt have to be for everyone. Better to enjoy what you read then to read for the enjoyment of others :) I would still reccomend you give The Way Of Kings a shot since it is very different to Mistborn and deals with the magical elements of the world more organically (IMO) - but it is still Sanderson's prose...
Dude what a beast video! 20 books 😮💨
I loved The Road, but I agree I hate how McCarthy doesn't use quotations and punctuation😂
Maybe make a video about where you would recommend people start with fantasy. A lot of people recommend mistborn so would be fun what you think!
If you don’t like the first Mistborn book, you will definitely DNF the second and third too, I almost couldn’t get trough them and when I did it certainly wasn’t worth it for me. I’m glad there are people who like it and I absolutely love other Sanderson books, but just not Mistborn.
They made a series on audience tv based on the Mr. MERCEDES books. It was great. I don't know if its on any other streaming service. But you got to see it.
6:19 🫣I’m slogging through book 2 at the moment… I’ve never been reading a fantasy book in a series for so many weeks… I think I’ve read too much fast-paced fantasy before getting to Mistborn. I think if I’d read it earlier, it would have formed my experience of the genre and I would have been fine. Alas. 😅
Have you read SK's Joyland yet? You totally should, it's the perfect summer read
I will say Mistborn isn't for everyone but I would highly recommend the warrior witch duology by Greta Kelly, I love her work.
So, I liked The Final Empire - but didn't love it. I had to sort of force myself but the ending (for me) was good but it didn't make me want to run to read book two. I liked Vin but didn't love her. I'm jumping over to The Way of Kings to see if I like that better. I'm so glad you're being honest about your reviews, as always. Love this video and look forward to future ones.
Put Stephen kings book 11/22/63 on my birthday wish list for my 20th birthday on July 31st 💕 You made me really eager to read it x 😂🥰
The Mr Mercedes trilogy are my favourite Stephen King books. I own multiple copies and plan to do a re read soon
So happy u love Robin Hobb 🎉I won’t tell u to continue with Mistborn saga because the writing is the same across the books 😇 But if u still want to give Sanderson a chance I can recommend his epic fantasy series called “stormligh archive” which has better writing and the characters are way better and adult 🧠
The Lies of Locke Lamora is the best!! I really hope the 4th book comes out soon! Recommendation for you... I really think you'll like Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames 😊
Ian, you and Ashlynn are my FAV booktubers and I look up to you a lot as a new booktuber myself! But this is not about that...over the last year-ish, I have been getting into stephen king and I was wondering if you would ever do a "guide to reading stephen king" video??! theres so much out there that it feels overwhelming to just straight google that question haha. Would very much appreciate your thoughts on the King (other than Jesus Christ, hahah) and trust what you have to say about him! I recently have loved Fairytale and The Institute by him, and have the stand and 11/22/63 on my radar!
Totally support DNFing Mistborn. The magic systems feels totally artificial and inorganic. You’re not missing much, every single twist is visible from a mile away if you have ever consumed media. No idea why Sanderson is so popular right now.

I feel ya on brandon sanderson. His style is extremely slow burn. Way of kings is way slow as well, but the farther it got, it built to a crescendo and had me quit excited with the ending. I feel ya on mistborn it felt almost video gamish with the magic system. Way of Kings magic is better, more organic feeling with the characters.
3:50 Lies of Locke Lamora is pretty famously NOT for everyone :D. ¡Not even for all grimdark fans! I know big fans of Abercrombie that just felt it was OK (I also know fans of Abercrombie that thought it was marvellous, so there's that). I myself think it was a fine read, but I didn't really care enough to recommend it to anybody or want to read the sequels that I also bought with it, and it's the kind of thing where I am inclined to criticize it just because of how a lot of people LOOOVE it, and that contrasts so hard with the 3/5 feeling it gave me that I try to convince myself I liked it less than I did, lol. I do absolutely love Sanderson to bits though, so it's most certainly a taste thing.
