I believe it might only be checking for whether you hit the flag every 10ms or more, and it adjusts the time based on how far into the goal you are

I remapped jump to R just for swimming and frog. Only use the Z shoulders and I can spam that way faster than A

You can get the last red coin faster by using your pow earlier in your route, you won't have to slow down as much

I feel like the satisfaction of being the fastest is enough of a reward

I had a whole other route, I took the first powerup to catch the pink coin which you normally get with the rocket then went down to get the koopa head ( going under with the first power up still)

I was watching DGR and the coin you grab last, he was going out of his way to get fourth and I was screaming at the screen trying to make him skip it and get it last. He could have had a MUCH better ranked time.
