Keep in mind Ghetsis’s Hydreigon in B/W2 has a full powered frustration in it’s move set, the implication being that he HATES Ghetsis with a passion.

He's even forced to hold a Life Orb, he has absolutely no value to Ghetsis. Ghetsis even managed to force him to evolve early, imagine the stresses, maybe even tortures, it takes to do that. He's just a tool for Ghetsis, Hydreigon knows it very well and *despises* him for that.

Honestly, my favourite thing about Ghetsis has to be the fact that his cruelty is reflected in his pokemon. His teams are well suited to counter N, y'know, in case the boy gets any ideas about a revolution. Aside from his ace, he uses the most henchmen pokemon ever: Seismitoad and Bouffalant are the one getting off to diving head first into a wall; Bisharp,Drapion and Toxicroak are the ones that ran around with scissors back in the nurseries; Cofagrigus and Eelektross, suitable to instill trauma into anyone they get their pinchers on. And of course, Hydreigon, that is evolved ten levels early, wears a marble that gives it even more power in exchange for some life expectancy and the fact that this absolute hedge of a specimen knows max power Frustration, as in, it is so pissed off at its trainer, it can tear open a volcano. You just know Ghetsis was mean to this bunch, Bisharp just evolved at level 52, immediatly thrown into battle, Hydreigon was catching the end of that cane 6 times before it went to sleep and another 6 when it was supposed to get up, had to forcefully evolve to at least open its eyes up and gain a pair(?) of wings in case things got messy.And I just love that, I adore how much of a dickhead they made this pale, dried-lime-haired old man in every aspect.

I like Ghetsis, because he’s literally insane. First time he got beaten up by the player, he went off the deep end, and the second time he lost, he basically got sent to a mental hospital because his mind broke. Plus, he’s just kinda evil, he doesn’t try and justify his actions. He manipulated good people, found likeminded individuals to kick baby Pokémon with him, and then tried to take over the world twice. Everyone else is like ‘I just wanted to make the world a better place’, Ghetsis is just ‘I adopted someone just to manipulate them by constantly surroundings them with very abused pokemon to act as my organisations figurehead’.

You know Ghetsis is the most evil boss when even Gamefreak acknowledges him as a evil bastard for tryna have him do to Giovanni the way he did to N and how he got physical with the UsUm Protagonist threatening a child’s life.

Ghetsis' plan was pretty amazing for a power grab in the Pokemon world. Being the only one with Pokemon would be absolutely broken in such a relatively passive world.

That’s what I’m saying! At the end of black and white, when you’re in the Castle, one of the plasma scientists even mentions they took notice of how Team Rocket/Galactic/etc failed because they’re shady operations were far too much in the public eye and made sure they didn’t make the same mistakes. Team plasma doing all they’re scheming behind the scenes while maintaining their “humane activist group” image in the public eye is why Ghetsis’ plan is very impressive. Literally using public opinion and mob mentality to make people feel the need to release their Pokémon, all because the new champion N said so. It’s a damn good plan, ngl.

Keep in mind, Volo isn’t as vile as Ghetsis or as methodical as Giovanni, but he accomplished something no other villain could, and that’s making a pact of equal partnership with a literal God in Giratina. Giratina hates Arceus for being banished and Volo wants to become a god in his own right. An alliance based on hating Arceus bringing these two together is exactly why he is a fantastic villain to me. He doesn’t control Giratina, they’re equal partners, and he didn’t even need to use mind control to do it, like how Ghetsis used Kyurem.

Yeah, a God helping a mortal of their own choice rather than a god being controlled by a mortal is much more terrifying. Atleast with the latter, you can almost always count on the fact that once broken free, the enraged god will turn on the mortal. With the former there is no such guarantee. @@mr.lantern1111 he fed Giratina the power it needed to try and fight Arceus and in exchange, he offered Volo that strength. A partnership between these two makes them far more terrifying, in my opinion. Not only that, but it shows Giratina is cunning and willing to work with others to achieve its goal. That kinda, in a strange way, makes Giratina quite humble, ironically, seeing how his lore effectively makes him the satan of Pokémon.

Now being fair to Archer he knows he's a side man because the whole point of team rocket in the gold silver games was to bring the big bad boss Giovanni back and if he succeed he would of slinked back to his original position so give him credit for that

Naw man. We needed starscream. Archer should have been trying to get Gio out of the way gen 1. Then taking over gen 2. But you know, gen 2 wasn’t exactly planned. They still could have come up with something better. I think the video is right about the rival stealing the villain energy.

That Scooby Doo comparison, every member even fills the same role. Penny is Velma (the smart observant one), Nemona is Daphne (rich girl who's talented in whatever the plot needs her to be, in this case battling), Arven is Shaggy (guy who just wants to eat sandwiches with his dog), and the protagonist is Fred (appointed leader for some reason, while not really having much of a personality, and provides the ride)

@@kjellandrebakken6775 Keep in mind as well that in the USUM Rainbow Rocket arc, the alternate universe Ghetsis blatantly states that he has plans to usurp and dispose of RR's Giovanni in order to take over as leader of Rainbow Rocket and amass even more power. Obviously he's evil, but more than that, he's arrogant and power hungry. Looking at their prime universe counterparts, it's my personal view that Giovanni would probably consider Ghetsis and his actions abhorrent and monstrous, going way too far according to Giovanni's own standards and crossing lines he never would. In fact, I think it would be fair to say Giovanni in the prime universe might try to destroy Ghetsis himself if they were to meet, even if he just wrote it off as "Having a maniac like that running around would be bad for business" as a reason. And you can bet that if RR's Ghetsis had gotten the chance to try and take down RR's Giovanni, he would've tried to have that monster of a Hydreigon turn Giovanni into roast chicken just to sadistically watch him suffer. The best fictional character I could compare Ghetsis to would probably be Killzone's Scolar Visari. In other words, a man who is at once a skilled persuasive speaker whilst also be a completely nepotistic, cruel, and spiteful dictator to those beneath him just because he can. Granted, I don't necessarily think Ghetsis's character has quite the same nuance or historical inspiration, but he does cut the figure of a ruthless dictator who only cares about power and his own ego at the expense of everyone and everything else.

Well, Volo is Cynthia's ancestor. No wonder he's broken as hell. Granted, Cynthia can clobber you in a fair fight while Volo needs a little help from Satan after his team softens you up but the dude has "overpowered" in his DNA.

As someone who’s first pokemon generation was 5, Growing up is in part realising how absolutely horrifying ghetsis was in retrospect. Anyway every one of your videos manages to be more entertaining than the last, cackled out loud more times than I can count on this one 👍

@@BJGvideos i think i was maybe 7 or 8 at the time of playing pokemon white? i didnt have the brain capacity to process all of the bizarre culty undertones and implied child abuse. excluding the obvious attempt on the player's life in bw2 there's a lot of alarmingly dark theming that only really registers when your frontal lobe develops enough to think about it a little bit harder

19:12 I interpreted that as Sada/Turo simply not giving a shit about the consequences. The AI was clearly not evil (considering it was the one that wanted the region to NOT be overrun by Paradox Pokemon). The real Professor was the one who was perfectly fine with that. And they were also the one who set up the Paradise Protection Protocol to slaughter anyone who tries stopping them.

Another thing about Ghetsis... his Hydreigon knows Frustration. His Hydreigon actively hates him. All this blustering about why Cyrus has a Crobat who evolves when they become good friends with their trainer must have really irritated Game Freak, because then they make a villain whose star Pokemon is seriously considering eating his trainer. Ghetsis' battle theme is also very in line with his character because if you listen close enough, you'll hear the cracking of whips.

Any ten year old worth their salt can utilize a Hydreigon with powerful special moves like Surf and Flamethrower, but it takes a special kind of monster to go out of their way make their Pokemon get a 102 for Frustration and actively maintain that. Let me put it this way: Winning makes your Pokemon like you more. Walking around with it makes it like you more. Feeding your Pokemon berries and vitamins makes it like you more. There are certain actions that lower friendship, but they are far fewer than the ones that improve it. What this means is even if the Hydreigon wins, it will be made to lose. If it eats, it's a diet of Herbal Medicine and for a carnivore, that's hell. If it ever gets remotely close to Ghetsis, it will be made to suffer.

As fantastic as the Ghetsis rant was, truly couldn’t have summed him up better myself, I’m surprised you didn’t bring up what he tries to pull in Ultra. Man tried pulling the same shit he did with N on Giovanni, it’s implied by Ghetsis having the dragon that he actually killed N, and then when he loses he threatens to kill Lillie with his bare hands if Elio/Selene doesn’t back off.

Yeah, I mentioned that above. The man truly has no morals. I honestly believe, given that Giovanni at least has some lines he won't cross, that the prime universe version of Giovanni would try to destroy Ghetsis even if he just wrote it off as "Keeping that maniac alive would be bad for business" or some other such dubious reasoning. Truly, Ghetsis stands out to me as the most evil Pokemon evil team leader. For the most evil team or organization, I've got to go with Cipher in Coliseum and XD. Their cruelty, the crimes they commit on the regular against both other people and Pokemon, and just the sheer audacity they have in creating Shadow Pokemon (which literally have been made into vicious soulless killing machines by Pokemon standards) puts them above literally any main series evil team in my estimation.

Come to think of it, I'm surprised the leaders of Cipher (Evice in Coliseum and Greevil in XD) didn't get any mention at all. Man, I guess people really do forget those games even existed.

This script is brilliant. Gliscor being a wild card is not only funny but also refers to how versatile it is in the games. And Lysandre being of two minds about whether to destroy the world or not refers to how his goals are to either kill everybody or give them eternal life depending on which game you're playing. Managing to slip those references in without explaining them and still maintaining the flow of the video takes serious skill.

I totally agree on the Ghetsis pick. While Giovanni may be more iconic ghetsis was just straight evil while also being my favorite evil boss as well. Black 2 will always be my favorite main series game

Ghetsis is one of the reasons why I always have a Hydreigon on my team if I can because that pokemon just screams "now you f*cked up now!" But I also like to think if you give Hydreigon the Stitch treatment he'll be a good boi.

Colress, not considering him as a villain but as a character, is absolutely amazing. His design is great, one of my favorites, his teams are pretty solid, overall he’s a pretty solid character. He is the lesser of the villains for Plasma, but he’s above even N for characters in general for me.

With Team Rocket its "If I don't win this battle, these people are going to steal my Pokemon!" With Cyrus it's "If I don't win this battle, there could be cataclysmic damage to the world as we know it!" But with Ghetsis, it's "If I don't win this battle, this man is going to kill me."

For all Lysander is mocked for, he basically almost successfully enacted class warfare such that only the rich live when the Weapon was fired. If Team Flare were not buffoons, that would be scary.

I'd give Giovanni the #1 slot for what he did in Ultra Sun & Moon. The man rallied up all the other big bads from different universes and actually managed to convince all of these villains to work for him. His Mega Mewtwo alone would spark out of the rest of them so that probably helped. The AI professors were out here pouring all their resources and knowledge into breaking the dimensional barrier to achieve their goals. Giovanni went from being you're average mob boss to essentially, the king pin of the multiverse. And he STILL decides to just, have a bit of fun with it. Even after the game's done he's standing on a cliff thinking "Now who should I terroize next?" and teleports away. The man is still out there. The ONLY villain to canonically not be truly defeated. Absolute legend Giovanni.

This guy's also a really good writer. Did you notice that Lysandre's "I was in two minds about it" referred to how his motivations are slightly different in X and Y and Gliscor being "a bit of a wild card" referred to how versatile it is? It takes serious writing skill to slip those in so naturally and the delivery flows so beautifully that most people wouldn't even notice how clever those lines are.

​@dimetrodon2250 also if we take into account the player's drive to obsessively fixate on rushing through the story events, and spend weeks worth of time shiny hunting or grinding competitive teams, we then get the only real personality trait of Fred (a hyperfixation on whatever random thing caught his eye this week)

Considering that Hydreigon's favorite thing in life is wanton death and destruction, how poorly did Ghetsis treat that Pokemon that it _physically cannot hate him more_ (max power frustration)? I think a Hydreigon would bounce off of Ghetsis's psychopathy extremely well, but this Hydreigon despises him. Either Ghetsis owns the only pacifist Hydreigon in the Universe, or that poor Pokemon has been subjected to such horrific experiments and mistreatments that "E for everyone" can only have nightmares about it. Considering it evolved 10 levels early and is holding a Life Orb, I imagine it's unfortunately the latter, and that's terrifying.
