I Quit

The Grant: forms.gle/HBtAdt7zedrtzbZ48
Pizzamas: pizzamas.com/discount/HANKSENTME
As I upload this, I am realizing that there is a pretty huge part of my life that I barely ever talk about publicly. I mean, that is also somewhat true of family things, but business isn't traditionally seen as a thing to be private about. There are lots of people who have big, full careers just talking about the business of their business. I myself have felt the pull to create that kind of content and have done it!
But I stopped a while back as I realized that talking about the inside operations of my business was always sharing other people's stories as well as my own, and that's weird without asking for permission. Plus, my perception of a situation is never going to be exactly the same as someone else's. So I stopped doing it. I even put a little sign on my computer that says "DON'T TWEET ABOUT WORK" to remind me. Even this video felt like it was on the edge of sharing too much, though it is almost all about me.
I feel like there's a relationship between the "I tweet about what a good boss I am boss" and the "wife guy." And we've seen times when those bosses hve proved that they are not great bosses. I am also not a great boss...I know that there are some out there, but it's not an easy thing to do. It's especially hard when you have both the inclination and opportunity to be constantly distracted by other things!
So yeah, that's why I don't talk about the biggest part of my professional life on the internet. If my businesses were just my business, I would, but it's not.

My wife recently just found a tumor in her brain when we went for a wellness check. The nurse there knew something was off. I'm still struggling to figure out things myself and in only 4 days she will be going in for surgery. The tumor was not small either, but your story has helped me Hank through this. She has a very positive outlook and has been amazing with it all. An update nearly one week later: The surgery on Tuesday went well. It's Wednesday and now she is stable She has some vision loss but that may recover in time due to the tumors location, pressing against her pituitary gland and raising her optic nerves. The long road of recovery, PT and bills are ahead, but I did not lose the light of my life.

I remember watching you guys blend happy meals, John waxing his chin, fitting peeps into your mouth, John wanting an army of babies, and more funny things at the start and now you all have been through so much life change, as have I. I guess I wanted to leave a comment to say thank you. Just pausing in the middle of this to say, as someone who has worked for ambitious startups and nonprofits of all kind, the anxiety you’re describing is usually what causes founder’s syndrome-and I haven’t seen a single org with FS that didn’t eventually fail. One particularly bad case had the CEO and cofounder in my office (as a copywriter with an entire marketing leadership team ahead of me in the chain) daily, nitpicking first drafts and editing every single piece of content and copy with me personally. Again, this was daily. I’m so, so excited and happy to see you embrace the reality that others are going to make different choices than you would, and recognize that that’s *the point*. I hope to start my own NPO and you are repeatedly an inspiration to and blueprint for me. Also, nice mustache.

Put me back in, Coach!' and I would do that if I felt like I needed to, but the reality is that recovery from cancer treatment takes time and I didn't realize that. I don't know; this is all very new to me." SUCH AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE!

@@SoulDelSol To be fair, when you get cancer the docs tell you A LOT of stuff - way more than anyone can take in no matter how intelligent, well-supported or attentive. It's just inevitable that some of it just bounces off. I missed so much with mine that later on I was like, "WHY DIDN'T SOMEBODY TELL ME...?!?!" and it always turned out that they had, probably multiple times. It's just that getting cancer diagnosis and then dealing with treatment feel a lot like standing 3" away from the sun - pretty much nothing else stands even a remote chance of making it into your field of view.

Yes, for some, the traumas that are diagnosis and cancer treatment.. trigger bigger realisations about a persons life, involving much reflection, possibly various psychological therapies.. and some mix of reinvention, renewal, disbelief - pinch your self - is this for real? The value of time and of life itself has received a jolt: nothing may ever be the same again, for better or worse. Be kind, always, for some may struggle far more with/after cancer treatment, including variable remission and worries associated. Great video and wise decisions made of business involvement and evolution, of altered focus and re-evaluation of priorities.

I got one in 2018 and even though my channel is in a period of inactivity, that grant didn't just help me produce better videos for my channel, it also helped me go from a job I was miserable at in a career I didn't want to becoming a full-time educational video creator (first by getting a job at MinuteEarth and currently editing videos for Johnny Harris). I wouldn't have been able to get those jobs if I wasn't able to produce some videos on my own during my free time that I was able to use as a portfolio of work to land those other jobs. I used the gear/software/courses I got using that grant to do stuff I wouldn't have been able to do at the time with the gear (and income) I had at the time. So, definitely do apply!
