Thanks for the advice geck and thanks to the community offering advice as well I will be doing my best to keep these thoughts in mind as I try to get over my fear of people. Gabe, you’re so brave for sharing your struggles with us. And geck’s advice for you was incredible. Remember what that person finds interesting, get them talking, genuinely empathize with them, that’s 95% of the work. If you can do that people will feel like they got something out of talking to you, the most important thing of all: the feeling of being heard.

Kabu is totally an alcoholic. If she reads this, I hope you know that it's not meant to be taken as an offense, it's something that you need to know to help you. Japan is hardly the only place in the world that sells alcohol in 7/11, most states in the US allow for this too. The ease of accessing alcohol to others does not mean that everyone who lives in these places are more inclined to drink all of the time. People are inclined to drink all of the time if they have a problem with managing themselves with it, it's as simple as that.

When trying to talk to or meet people you just gotta put yourself out there. It's always hard but the more you give it a go the better you get and the less the rejection hurt. Don't delude yourself too. There will be rejections and things you won't understand. A lot of the time it might not even be a you thing and that's okay too. Try find a hobby, a side job in a social environment, even one day/night a week. A lot of the time it is a numbers game too. The more you let rejection get to you the less you try. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy too. You're young. Get out there and pretend to be invincible for a night.

The term “gaslighting” comes from the 1938 play Angel Street, which was later adapted into the film Gaslight, in which a man tries to convince his wife that she is going insane so he can steal from her. When he turns on the lights in the attic to search for her jewelry collection, and the gas lights dim downstairs, he tells her it’s all in her imagination. Gradually she begins to question her own memories and perceptions.

Geck’s advice for holding conversations was solid gold. Step 1: figure out a way to remember what the other person finds interesting, meaningful, or important. Step 2: Get them talking about it, smile and nod to show that you’re interested. Step 3: This is the hardest bit, because you can’t logic your way out of it. As you listen to what they have to say, try to empathize with them. Genuinely feel the same way they do about the subject. Feel the same love, hatred, joy, etc. that they feel in their heart. Step 4: Give your genuine reaction to what they’re saying. Share your thoughts and feelings about what they’re saying. Look for new ways get them to say more (see step 1). That’s what I learned today. Easier said than done, at least until you practice enough to get it right.

To Turnip: Way to go! Good luck with your great adventure! I would also try to follow Geck's advice to test the waters somehow. Maybe you find ways to "prototype" a future in Japan? Maybe an internship or a stay there on a small saved up budget for some longer time before making too huge commitments? This may also help soften the blow of culture shock once you do decide to make the "big move"... Do you have contacts to people from Japan, that are now living in the US? Maybe that would be a great way to make your plan become more real - less through online contacts? Anyways: I wish you and your boyfriend all the best! I disagree slightly with the Geck: I think the boyfriend is a very nice reason to move... of course he shouldn't be the only reason, but I think love is still an amazing, positive force to be driven by and to gain the necessary momentum to dare such a big adventure!

Just like smoking, what and how matters. Vaping a garbage, cheap distillate with Vitamin E? Good way to die. Vaping raw weed(not oil based, just ground flower) on a low temp in a proper vaporizer? Nope, you'd be wrong, worlds apart. Also, nice source. And if the come back is "just google it/look it up yourself", you clearly don't care enough to be taken seriously, especially when nearly every study in existence nowadays has a significant financial interest backing it that wants a specific result more than a proper study.

It is however not only self evident but also proven (Bracken-Clarke et al 2021, Vaping and lung cancer-A review of current data and recommendations) that vaping fluids contain oncogens and therefore can cause (lung)cancer and negatively impact respiratory health (Jonas 2022, Impact of vaping on respiratory health) and these are just results after a few years. The way autistic people like to start and continue conversations are like starting to talk about hobbies and interests and not on small talk that's mundane and "boring to us" eye contact and social cues are difficult, as well as memory issues, getting distracted because you trying to maintain eye contact so much that you are not then paying attention to what the person your talking to is saying etc, this going for overthinking about how your posture look, your facial expressions, you speak patterns and the list goes on, if your in a group setting its worse.
