The longer it is that you don’t drink the less likely it’ll be you ever drink again ..,it’s like you don’t want to break the streak.,it’s not worth it.?you’ll be so upset if you drink now. It’ll be like losing.

12 weeks tomorrow since I quit my friend. I would go through a bottle of rum or about 10 pints after every shift... it has been getting increasingly worse for more than 10 years. It's been a tough life.

Doing a great job on quitting drinking, but id advise also not to listen to Owen Benjamin. I used to listen in passing but recently he has gone off the deep end. We are concerned for him, and its easy for some people to believe the things he says and thats a slippery slope, not saying you do, and he has good points sometimes, but he isnt a role model I would follow for sure.

Im only 16. I haven't had much of these situations or things that you have been through or talk about but listening to you makes me try to follow what you say because you're wise and I understand that I should try to be good man when I'm older. For a lot of the words that you say, I try to use those words and shape myself into a good person and I am truly greatful that there is someone in this world that I can listen too, to try and make myself a good man. I have so much respect for you and what you do and talk about, it's all amazing and it's a true blessing to have your videos in my life.

You could choose far worst as a role model. I don't agree with Cody on all things, but as a rational, thinking man I don't have too. I would have no issue recommending Cody as a role model to my own boys. Only little children expect everyone erroneous to agree with Them? I call it a 6 year old mindset! Intellectual integrity is as important as moral integrity. That is why ideological bigots, of both the left and the right, are both infantile and Dangerous! The left always some ts everything going to the ideology. The right is equally bad but it's crime tends to be elitism stand for what you believe to be true but be open to consider you might be wrong,!

you would feel that way if you never drank beer and were living the life you are today without beer. change your lifestyle to an environment and new activities that positively charge you up, instead of work and friends/family that drain you. try new things that peak your interest. when you're doing what you enjoy on a daily basis you will find yourself naturally drinking less and less. don't give up ! make small steps towards a better YOU and goals that will make your life better. give yourself time to grieve and then have a goal and work towards it, you can do it man!. All the best you in life. sincerely, Doug

Same here. I promised my mother when I was 12 years old I would never drink. My father was an alcoholic. I have tasted alcohol, but only when someone tried to fool me. Never drank during my military service, my buds even defended me when strangers tried to shame me into drinking. I still go to reunions with those old friends. I met a pilot from my military days, who made an off handed comment about drinking beer. He was quite a drinker back in the day, so probably did not remember or maybe never even knew I was not a drinker. This is what I learned from being a non drinker. It makes many people nervous in social settings. I got many unfiltered comments from people who were intoxicated. Mostly positive, I guess they could not say those words face to face when sober. Alcoholism was a severe financial burden on the family and it was like living without a father and like having another child in the family, one with a severe handicap. When my father finally quit after getting sick, I learned that there was a real person inside that alcoholic. Too bad he did not live long after reaching sobriety. I only started to get to know him once he quit drinking. Don't be that stranger to YOUR family. I also promised myself I would never have children, if this is what life would be like for them living in a home with an alcoholic. I never did. I cannot think of one good thing that could come from consuming alcohol.

MARINENI BOI as someone who always corrected grammar and spelling I can tell you it just is not worth it. You end up not being able to enjoy things and you get angry quicker. Please don’t waste you life on that. I wasted six years of my life being that person and I was full of hate because I thought in was better than everyone else. I was fat and not a leader in any way and I was angry that people would not listen or follow my commands. But now I realize I was angry with myself and that I was letting words bring out the worst of me. I regret that I let correcting peoples words become an idol in my life and that got in between my relationship with God. Please don’t make the same mistake I did.

You’re a wise dude. In my younger years I would’ve said you were lame and rigid, but as I get older I’m fortunate to see the truth in what you’re saying. I’ve seen character flaws in myself that I’ve changed, and I see those flaws in people much older than me at 23 with the those same broken qualities. I’m not trying to boast myself, but the fact that I’ve realized and changed these things but people much older than me haven’t had taught me that some people reach like a max maturity. I hope I never stop growing, because many people just stop maturing and that’s a fear of mine.

I did like you and decided to see if I had a problem. I said I would stop for a week which turned to a month. Then I realized I was sleeping better than I ever had. I haven't wanted to drink since. No I didnt have a problem nor did I want to earn one. That was 15 years ago. Life truley is better without it imo. I know my kids and my wife hold me in high regard because of it. That's fir sure. This is great. Love your honesty and candidness in being vocal with your journey. I can relate to much of what you've experienced with alcohol and this has encouraged me to want to try this for myself. From your first video of you talking about "saying goodbye to an old friend", up until this video, there is a stark difference in your confidence, the way you talk, and obviously your relationship with God/family. Even your skin color in your face is more vibrant! You're doing great and I'm loving all of this content. I'm 26, work on a farm, am a christian, and a husband. I appreciate how you tie in God with everyday life struggles and celebration even if it seems small. Everything amounts to something, positive or negative. Since I don't have a community or work with anyone on the farm, through you being so candid, it makes me feel like I can improve myself knowing and feeling that i'm not alone in this. Working outdoors, I listen to podcasts all day. I'd listen to a you in a podcast in long-form everyday if I could! Thank you

I didn’t have a drink for almost 5 years and now I may have 1 drink every few weeks at the max. I never thought I would be sober and had no idea it would be this good. If you feel like you want to go forever just go for it. You’re talking about what I call ‘lip service’ a huge pet peeve of mine, people say something at the moment to look good but never follow through, it’s especially true when alcohol is involved, slowly I’m opening my husband la eyes to this trait. The biggest one I learned was when I was severely ill and so many people said’let me know if you need anything’ then when you’re actually in need they’re no where to be found, but they sure felt like a sincere friend when they said it.

Someone from this forum replied to something I wrote here. He said that non drinking Christians were an American thing, and it only started here in the last century or so. (Or, something very much like that.) I have no quarrel with that. But it is a good idea to give up worldly activities and pursuits anyway. We are called to be separate from the World when we belong to Christ. We have heard of churches that have rules. I have decided these rules are worth taking a calm, honest look at. I know that leaving alcohol, not dancing or going to movies are the most famous rules, and things like them. I see that it also saves me money, and by complying, I have also avoided social situations where I might have trouble, injury, loose a friend. I am not forced into this peaceful lifestyle. I choose to live this way. Some call them rules. But I say, Thanks for pointing out a better way to live. I appreciate God's desires for a good life for me. So I am a volunteer. How many of us recall that God would like us to dress and act sensibly. And to be modest. And humble. I choose to follow the ways of humility, simplicity, respect, and other things on this order. But place FAITH at the top of the list. Thanks for reading my input.

I also agree that there is nothing sinful about having a drink now and then but coming from a line of alcoholics I have seen the damage it can cause. My view on it has always been “is it profitable?” . This was a great video and I appreciate your honesty brother. I will continue to pray for you and your family.

I did what you’re doing back in 2011 quit “for a while” with the same thought that maybe someday I’ll drink again. Since then I’ve drank twice and hated it both times afterwards. This is so tough though, so much of social activity is centered around alcohol and when someone offers you a beer and you say no they kind of look at you suspiciously and then you tend to be outside the group. I respect anyone who is constantly on the path of self reflection and correction

Just a thought. As he mentioned some will say there's nothing wrong with a drink, true but this is his personal conviction and doesnt expect it of anyone else. I think we understand that but on the same token, hes is apologizing that he didnt keep his word to us. Many say no you dont owe us an apology. But, yes he does owe us an apology, this is his personal conviction and he feels he fell short. I dont want to offend by refusing someone's apology or infer that his conviction isn't worthwhile. Thank you, and thank you for your example of your devotion to your convictions.

I respect your honesty it had to be hard in the beginning 60 days back and every day that led up to that first day, a being sober, so congratulations keep up the great work God bless you bye for now I look forward to hear from you Ken

Best things about not drinking in my mind are the money savings, calorie savings, and peace of mind while driving home from things. I've not had any alcoholic beverage for the last 9 years, no deception, I didn't have a drinking problem and quitting was a challenge socially and with some situations (like at a German restaurant).

On the 7th of November 2018 after smoking for nearly 40 years I decided to quit. I had tried many times in the past but my mindset was not right obviously to achieve the goal. I have now gone almost 8 months without one, the first thing I really noticed after a few weeks was how my sense of smell and taste returned. It's taken a little longer for my lungs to start functioning better but after a few months I could do more for longer. I do regret I wasn't able to do this when I was younger but I don't dwell on it as it can't be changed. I now have the energy to play with my grand children, something I really didn't have the time or energy to do with my own children and for that I have apologised to them.

One of the greatest sources of anger I get from common stories, TV, Movies, etc... is a character promising something they can not keep. "We're gunna be ok", "I will return" when going to battle... stop it! You can't make that promise. I do my best to make sure I don't do this in life.

I can't agree more with this video. It's amazing how once you haven't had alcohol in a while, how other better, healthier beverages start to give that same refreshing feeling, and just make you feel so much better. But sometimes it takes us to get to our lows to realize maybe we need to change that ends up helping us better define our true self, and one can not let their lows define you. I think that's what I admire most out of these videos, is how when you take your lows, and mistakes, and let them define them into a better you. These are some of my favorite videos of yours. Keep it up!

I was a bottle of wine a day drinker (sometimes 1.5 are sometimes 2) I am in my 3rd day of not drinking and already sleep better, feel better in the morning and thinking maybe I will never have another drink. My wife is with me on this journey and its great that we're both supporting each other. The evenings are a bit of a grind and I have found that I need to keep active. IF you tell someone you'll do something, be somewhere, buy something...it's a done deal in my world. I also do my best to give others the benefit of my trust in them until such time as they prove untrustworthy. This world would be MUCH better if more would do the same I think.

Right on! I quit smoking about 35 years ago and took my last drink about 15 months ago, at the age of 67 (oh yeah, didn't have to, just chose to do it. Like you, I think that I may go back occasionally and enjoy a glass of wine with a meal, etc…somewhere down the line, but like you, I'm feeling good about things and I probably won't. If I do, I'll diligently pray about it and let the Lord be my guide. I too, enjoy me some "Papa" Hemingway quit a bit, but I'm not really an avid reader yet I do read a variety of topics, etc. Many years ago (1980-ish), I was well into my 26 Navy career and was stationed in Adak, Alaska (Aleutians) and when I wasn't out backpacking and mountaineering, I tended to be curled up with a book…most often something outdoors-ish. I was devouring some old Robert Service tales & epic poems about the Alaskan Gold Rush and I read a line, in which one prospector was making a promise to another, and the other prospector commented that he wasn't certain if the guy would keep his promise. Then the original old "Sourdough" commented very succinctly, "A Promise Made, Is A Debt Unpaid!" You could've knocked me over with a feather. That moment began another chapter in my life, where I did not make promises…PERIOD! And for the next 39 years, when someone felt I should promise to do something, I blurted out that quote and explain that I'd make every effort to accommodate them but I wouldn't "promise". Then, I got married a few years later and I made the promise to my bride that I'd never be unfaithful to her and shared the "Promise Quote" and that's the way it's been. We still did 15 years of my Navy career together as husband and wife; and I never broke that promise even though I traveled all over the world many times, without her by my side…but she was there (in Spirit). Sorry to be so verbose, but wanted you to know that you've got a big support group out here and you don't need to worry about the rest. (BTW, the "Quote" came out of the Epic Poem, "The Cremation of Sam Magee" - - "Scooter" in East Texas

You are absolutely correct. I’ve wasted 30 years drinking excessively. I quit cold turkey a few years ago. It’s a long story but I’ve lost nearly 100 lbs and became financially secure however, about twice a year I I’ll have several Makers Mark and/several Ultras. Each time I’m reminded of how absolutely wonderful life is without alcohol. I’m constantly improving my character and recognizing that ALL of the road blocks and set backs in my life are due to my decisions. For me , alcoholism is not a disease, it’s a character flaw that I am defeating it. For whatever reason need a reminder as to why every so often... YMMV Anybody out there who needs further explanation or help in fighting whatever it is that’s KILLING you, contact me. Always available to talk. I’m a high school teacher in Texas. I often here other teachers say, he/she is just seeking attention when there is a behavior issue. I ALWAYS say, attention is free and pretty easy to give every-time.

I smoked for 30 years. When I quit I wanted a smoke and thought about how much I missed having a smoke when I was stressed, or after a meal. It was then that I realized that the tobacco owned me. I had formed the addiction and had spent 30 years looking for the perfect smoke break that never really happened. It was then that I knew I was truly done smoking. Now I no longer think about it. I see a person smoking and it does not make me want a smoke, and I can sit with my friends who are smoking cigars and not feel the need to have one. So if you think that you need the drink to enjoy the moment then the drink still holds you.

My sobriety date is 12/6/1988. First 90 days is usually the hardest. After that, often-times, people say, "I've shown that I can do it, so now I can drink again". You could find out if it's OK for you, and it may be. If you find you shouldn't drink, then you have to try quitting again. On the other hand, if you already say that your health and outlook is better without alcohol, why would you want to find out? What are you missing? Even if you can drink again, do you need to?
