I Played SimCity 2013... in 2023
Ойындар
In this video i am taking a back in time to 2013 to play SimCity 2013 or SimCity 5 if you would.
I recently saw it on my EA Play launcher, and thought... Hey SimCity 2013 exists and tought it could be a fun trip down memory lane. To see how the game performs now in 2023... 10 years after it initial release.
As we all know the game got trambled by Cities Skylines, but i will say, to my surprice i actually had a lot of fun playing this old game again!

From what I remember, in order to maximize a city you have to ignore looks and got for the flat grid, any waisted space is detrimental because theres little space to begin with.

@@vomm i wouldnt say "nothing" behind it. I still had a lot of fun with it back then especially when you played in multiplayer coop with friends and everybody cares about different stuff. i know most stuff was not really simulated properly, but the game was more of a puzzle game and i liked the feeling of progression because of it. you where more focussed to get your city grow into the height then just place another discrict. CS lost me pretty early on at release because it actually was just a "build a beautiful city" game back then (never played any addons and not a fan of modding games). but stilll can't wait for cs2, because iit looks like a complete pack of necessary stuff. what i like is the art style of these timeless "sims like" games. I mean look at something like "the movies" from 2005. the game is still pretty good looking because of this cartoon style.
Man this game had so much potential cities feel so much more alive in this game, love the art style, much better building models, modular buildings. Loved how high crime cities feel dilapidated and you can hear gunshots and glass breaking. Also sports parks actually had people playing and commercial districts motels or hotels grow if its a tourist city. But yeah way too many limiting factors like tile size, limited options, and lack of transit.

Besides that, another thing I love about SC2013 is the way the zoning works. Never liked the squares of Skylines. But, without a doubt the best things about this game are the visuals and sound design. The music is beautiful enough that I've listened to it on its own, and it even matches the vibe of your city! All the sound effects when placing roads and zoning and buildings makes every interaction feel so much more tactile and satisfying. And then there's the different information views, with representaitons of electricity and water and sewage and all that other stuff actually actively moving. In terms of experience, they really perfected this game.

@@vommI remember I got my population to like 100k or so with the future towers and I built everything in an eccentric ring and it honestly was one of my favorite things I’ve ever made in a game. If it just had bigger maps I’d be being playing this all the time. Just couldn’t get behind the idea that the cities literally looked like stupid little patches rather than interconnected regions
Great game concept that was sadly let down by lots of bugs and small city plots. and very limited Transportation options. and no landscape editor. but it really has this amazing Quirkiness that sim city has always had and good music. I happen to play it now and then. Its very very addictive. i have been playing Cities skylines for years also but it lacks in business options and Quirkiness. The multiplayer was great actually, the way the cities worked together with tourism and medical etc. was a neat feature. It made it so the cities could be specialized to help each other. Had a lot of fun going back, sadly I have spoken to many of my friends in years that I used to play the game with all those years ago. Could be fun to re-experience the multiplayer 😅
Ooooo, I have 100hrs in this game. My biggest problems was the limited space size and road layouts always favored grids but the thing that kept me going was the aesthetics. Something about hearing a door bell after zoning a residential area, the beeps of the cash register of a commercial zones police sirens after placing down a police station, and hearing the road stretch as you built the roads felt so satisfying. I'm glad that Cities Skylines exists and it's getting a sequel with a whole lot of improvements but I wished they learnt a bit more from the sound design as well as the art style from this game.
Despite its colossal failure, it had its positive aspects for its time: 1# Soundtrack: By far, the best thing about this game. IMO the best soundtrack of any game I ever listened to. Amazing music by Christ Tilton. 2# Art Style: I loved how stylish and colorful everything looked. The themes looked neat and consistent with roads and buildings matching. 3# Cites of the Future: I love the concept of Mega structures, self contained city/buildings along with its futuristic looks. 4# Modular buildings: CS is finally catching on to that. It's not only practical and realistic, but also satisfying to upgrade your buildings instead of plopping more of the same everywhere. 5# City Specializations: Realistically, a city would not have a single specializations but it was cool to grow a city having a goal in mind and having interactions among the many tiny "cities". Overall, simcity 2013 was more about feeling, aesthetics, and simulating an idea of a city. It was more like silly toy that you could play with as a mayor. It was not about simulating a real big city, not about realism or letting you develop your unlimited creative skills.

When I bought SC back in 2013 I was very disappointed because of the tiny tiles, I never really played it for long and SC was dead for me. When CS came out it was like a revelation and to this day CITIES Skylines is one of my favorite games. Well, as an old Sim City fan since SC 2000, I took SC2013 out of the woodwork and what can I say, the graphics have aged so well, it has released so much charm and I'm suddenly having a lot of fun with it, especially because of the lack of space to build and specialize several cities in order to then link trade through trade. CS is much better for gigantic building but SC manages to demand more. The small tiles don't bother me anymore, I know if I want to build big cities I'll use CS . SC + CS = ultimate fun❤
Was a big fan of this game at launch and loved this video. Game was flawed - but so fun. And the soundtrack is incredible - I still listen to it today.
Damn, this video was SO GOOD!!! Thx for that, hope for more :) good feelings from Brazil 🇧🇷
I f’ing love the way they did curved roads in this game 5:17 Honestly this game is a tragedy. EA was like “oh so you didn’t like our whacky ass plan to duck up the entire city building expeirence? Guess we just won’t make sim city anymore.” In every other way besides the wonky and stupidly small city sizes there’s just so much to love.

(it's quite sad to see that you only have 180 subscribers, actually.) maybe you could also make some cities skylines videos if you want to, especially with the current hype for cs2 (which i am really hyped for, even if only for the fact i can finally create realistic looking farms! you don't know how annoyed i am that i can only plop down small rectangle farms and some greenhouses. it just doesn't look right... and with the modular buildings it feels a bit like CS1 merged with SimCity.) i would really look forward to that. greetings from germany, by the way.

In case you didn’t realize (which it seems you didn’t), the taxes you’re responsible for in city-builders are city/local taxes. You probably do pay a high tax rate where you are because of federal (country-level) taxes, but these games are primarily based on American standards, and here we have city (municipal), county, state, and/or federal taxes. It all depends on where exactly you live that tells you which ones apply to you. If city taxes exist, they should be absolutely minimal because that likely means there’s already a state tax on top of federal taxes as well.

I haven't even thought about this game in a long time. When it launched, it looked like a downgrade from SimCity 4, and it had all kinds of problems, including the god-awful always online requirement that has unfortunately since become common. At the time, this wasn't commonplace yet, and gamers revolted against it. I didn't buy it, and to this day, I will not buy a game that has an always online requirement. I remember this game as the game that killed the SimCity franchise. Last I checked, it was only available from EA and hadn't been released on GOG or other storefronts yet. I'm slightly curious about it, but not enough to want to get an account with EA and use their launcher. If it ever turns up on GOG at a low price, maybe I'll give it a try.

I remember buying it when it came out, but like you say it was only online. Used to play it with a friend, i think all the DLC i have comes with the GamePass Ultimate Edition(EA play). Figured later that since i connected my EA account to my Xbox, that might be it. At this point i think you can actually play the game offline if i remember correctly, it say single player mode when i launch the game atleast :D Not a big fan of the always online either. Atleast i would say if you do decide to get it, grab it on sale ;)
Let us all just take a moment to appreciate Paradox interactive for taking over city building games.
superb graffics i wish cs had. hopefuffy cs2 will

There is something satisfying about Maxis graphics 😅 Though I think CS2 will take a more "realistic" approach.
The game had so much potential... The small city size, basic traffic management and always online were the things that killed it.

Yeah, the always online was not a good decision. Glad they at least changed it with time. City size was indeed a depressing downgrade from SimCity 4. Though I would mind seeing a reboot of the franchise, as long as it's done right that is! 😂
Yeah bdw in Slovenia we pay like 50% taxes and we have free schools, health care and more. So you are not the only one. Bdw i love this game.
This game still looks better than Skylines. The art style is amazing
That roundabout truly was an American moment.
SC5 was the biggest gaming disappointment in my life. It huge potential but the tiny maps, broken traffic AI, DRM and server issues, the DLC politics and lacking mod support made it a really bad game. Great video btw, it was really entertaining and well made, never had expected you're such a small KZreadr yet!

It was definitely a disappointment, not the biggest for me though. Had my fair share with WoW over the years 😂 I don't usually play with mods that often, though they can be great for a game! Glad you enjoyed the video 🙏😄
Watching this guy deal with traffic is beyond excruciating lol.

You could do a modded version where you can build outside the city borders.

I'm not to big on mods I always tend to crash my games trying get them compatible with one another 😂 But maybe in the future I will.
holding either shift or ctrl should let you upgrade whole roads i think? not sure anymore at the moment.
I wouldn't mind a series of this before CS:2 comes out. Would be an interesting transition.

Why Simcity 2013 had an smaller building space? I would like to know.

Me too! But i think it was a design decision, maybe to have the game run smoother? I dont know if they ever told us why the plots are so small
I don't remember if I downloaded mods or used the freeway but roundabouts can happen, they just need help.
This game makes cs1 look crazy good. Guess 9 tiles is decent. 😊

Always played Cities with mods that unlock more than the 9 tiles. This was very small compared to that 😅
Have you seen cities skylines 2

Ohh I have! And I'm so excited, looks really promising 😄
this to me was such a good game but you needed more space to create a nice city. they should make a new one.
“Round a bouts do not work in this game” umm well considering all you did was make a circle out of a 2 way street I wound say no duh.
Dr Vu was from Sim City 4 as well

Yea, i totally forgot. I went back and played SimCity for after this and the name came up 😅 Not that I ever added Dr. Vu in either game 😂 maybe I should see what it's all about at some point.

Yeah, I would say the amount of time I've played Cities skylines, it felt so cramped together playing this game 😅
The Soundtrack is still better than most other games. Especially with the Cities of Tomorrow the game is still fun. Cities Skylines2 100% copied the street building system from SimCity 2013. Including the part wih streets carrying utilities. And to me, the SimCity specializations are just better than the Industries of Cities Skylines, because they actuall make you make choices instead of just doing it all at once. The expandable BUILDINGS with the additional plopables is also something that cities skylines sadly did not do and which i still enjoy about SimCity 2013. The Research and Progress inside the city through different things than just Population is something i wish would be implemented in Cities Skylines 2. AND THE FUTURE STUFF TOO!
I dont know what, but Simcity has something that Cities Skyline doesnt, and I sincerely miss it.

Honestly... So do I. We still have the old ones ofc, but a new SimCity would hurt imo 😅
I honestly loved the idea of the electicity and water ticks through the streets. I would've wished that for Cities Skylines. If you need to connect every building to streets, then why not build electric cables and water pipes under them? Besides that it doesn't look that it became better. On the other hand i think i haven't seen the words Nissan and Leaf. Could've been the editing though.

It's the first "modern" game I've ever played and I loved it. The game feels unfinished, but so does Cities Skylines. Simcity has more interesting gameplay, better graphics, better music and the game mechanics feel better. Biggest problems for me were graphic bugs and very small city area. Also you can't make bus routes as you can in Cities Skylines. I used mods for more road options too.

Personally I have always enjoyed the graphics, in my opinion maxis got that down! I hope CS 2 will be the city builder of the decade! I think we're about at a new one 😄
the UI/UX, the soundtrack and the general art direction were great. Some interesting gameplay ideas also Too bad the rest was garbage. Still played 150 hours on it
