We never noticed that bug catchers disappeared after gen 4, but it does make sense. The first four regions took place in Japan where bug catching is a popular hobby while the later regions are based on places where bug catching is much less common.

These “trainer type” runs are by far my fav, such as the team sky trainer vids or the dark type gym leader vid. And I can’t deny, part of why I love them so much is because of how well they’ve been edited. All killer, no filler!

@@MrNITROPSYCHO the issue is that there isn’t anything major that’s sky-based (trainers mentioned are potential recruits) Kanto and Hoenn are done Johto has Falkner and either Ho-oh or Lugia Unova has the Genies and Skyla Kalos has YAHVALTAL and Sky battles Alola had a flying starter and Celesteela and Kahili Sinnoh has the same issue and, while this doesn’t disqualify Galar or Sinnoh, it *may* play a factor

The only unova bug type i have ever used was joltik/galvantula. When i use bug types i use the bug types of the gen. I never played any of the gen 5 games, so i never use any of them

I would say that they started becoming competitively viable starting gen 4, since that introduced the proper physical/special split, X-Scissor, and Bug Buzz, allowing bug types with actually good (special) attack stats to have stab moves, and not just Heracross with semi-accurate Megahorn. But gen 5, oof, they got an even larger boost from gen 4, on top of the great bug Pokémon introduced in this generation.

I love how, in the canon of Mikey's character, he doesn't know anything about Unova but EVERYTHING about Unova's bugs.

Yeah. My friend’s favorite Pokémon is a scolipede and hers is completely stacked and can kill ANYTHING. X scissor, Poison jab, Rock slide, Earthquake, focus sash and just train it up to make the speed better than it already is and you have a monster that can murder legends. Even without competitive training just scolipede with earthquake can body any play through if used correctly

Should definitely do this challenge in Alola as well! Golisopod, Vikavolt, Ribombee, Araquanid (if you get the Totem maybe better than Golisopod) not to mention Buzzswole and Pheromosa. As well as many older gen bug types. I'd love to see this bug trainer go all the way!

They’re essentially a pyramid scheme assigning a large amount of worth to digital collectibles (typically images), which people buy to sell in hopes of making even more money; akin to a stock market. So not only does it kind of wack out the economy, but the places that run all the NFT servers (for holding cryptocurrency I believe; which people then turn into real money) also apparently are doing some bad harm on the environment. At the end of the day it’s really an opinion? But most can agree that NFTs do more harm than good

@@skyzeeee but nfts are a technology, like the internet. there are millions of websites with phishing, scams, virus, illegal stuff etc, but you don't bash the internet. why don't you present actual solutions for nfts uses? because there are hundreds already on the making, like L2 solutions that actually don't hurt the environment (at least no more than traditional systems) and even the argument for blockchains like bitcoin hurting the environment are very broken and flawed.

I really do think it was weird to take Bug Catchers out of the G5 games... The best LOOKING and STRONGEST Bug-Types in the franchise were introduced in G5 and G7. The reason they took Bug Catchers out of the game is actually more cultural. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are based on parts of Japan, where bug catching is a popular hobby among children. Elsewhere, bug catching is a lot more niche and children don't do it as much. Speaking as someone from the USA, while _I_ have fond memories of catching butterflies at the park, the only time most of my friends caught bugs as kids were when we were all assigned to make insect collections in third grade. Kids that do catch bugs of their own volition (i.e. not as a school assignment) usually do so on a whim and don't, like, make it a huge part of who they are. So, yeah, in regions not based on Japan, Bug Catchers weren't really included or were merged with the Youngsters.

I've started doing all bug for all my runs and it really changes things up. In Shield I easily got a well balanced team that could handle everything, but in Shining Pearl I had to sit around a few days because almost all of the bugs were only catchable from honey trees. A steel type Wormadan was MVP, sweeping multiple gyms and elite four once I got it evolved and with Quiver Dance.

I think my love and appreciation for bug types became more apparent after Alola. In my opinion they definitely had the best bug types ever! Ribombee is my absolute favorite!

It makes a lot of tiny operations, and when something is expensive (or there's a lot of demand) we need to use more and more electricity to support the servers, which means more wasted energy and damage to the environment. Not to mention, the cryptocurrency 'mining' setups require a lot of hardware, including GPUs... And there are people who are buying out the 3080s just to mine more of this environmentally-damaging, artificially inflated fake currency... Making it near impossible for people who ACTUALLY need the cards for their computers, or making the prices skyrocket.

I was about to come down here to comment about this too. NFTs are bad for the environment, bad for artists who get their art stolen to be made into NFTs, and it acts pretty much like a pyramid scheme, theres so many reasons to not support them. I hope he doesn't work with this sponsor again.

And on top of all of that, in order to get the best deal on all the electricity used for mining crypto, they set up their mining operations in countries with dirt-cheap coal-powered electricity. So not only are they causing harm through their electricity usage in and of itself, they're specifically using THE MOST HARMFUL means of producing it.

I was personally wanting to do a Fairy Type run based around Kingdom Hearts, but I'm waiting for Inclement Emerald to get the Gen 8 Pokemon update since I don't wanna go through it without using my favorite fairy. It might be possible to do in Sword/Shield but I don't have a way to get Alolan Ninetails or Primarina in the games for the team to work.

@@speculyn5060 his type based playthroughs usually have a gimmick to them e.g. Grass and Dark Gym Leaders in regions that don't have them, Team Sky in Hoenn against Aqua and Magma, Bug Catcher in the first region without Bug Catchers. There's nothing about Sinnoh that would tie to Steel in the same way

This made me so happy. Galvantula is legitamately my favourite pokemon, and the fact that it won you the entire game was so special to me. Edit: Wow! Over 20 likes!

Current competitive Galvantula set works like this: Galvantula Ability: Compound eyes Item: Focus Sash Idk the EVs, but one is Max Special Attack Attacks: Sticky Web Thunder Wave Thunder Bug Buzz And it's so GOOD. It can take down about half of an unprepared team, set up a Sticky Web to slow down all the enemies, Bug Buzz past a Substitute, and Thunder or Thunder Wave annoying targets.

Never thought of that (no bug catchers in Unova, but Unova has the strongest bugs... or at least many of them), but that is ironic... that said, you look more like you are ready for that australian region.

This video was beyond perfect. I am definitely going to try a specific type play through like this. Micheal, Bug Catcher Champion, your acting was humorous and true to what a real life Bug Catcher trainer would act like 😂. I enjoyed every second.

In these older Pokémon games, you can change your trainer type with you trainer ID to a bug catcher title if you really want. You can do it in this game I’m pretty sure

Do you think Bug Catcher Mikey might have a good time in Alola (Ultra, preferably)? After all, more powerful Bugs get introduced in that generation, and I think seeing a Battle of the Bugs between him and Guzma would be awesome.
