You can fix the console freezes by setting up a swap space. 16gbs for the swap size is best. It basically utilizes your HDD storage as "RAM" when the system RAM reaches 100%.

I used to do this with my potato PC I installed an SSD and partitioned part of the drive to be used as virtual memory Now I do the opposite, half of my RAM is dedicated to being a virtual boot drive for nearly instant startups

@@ccb_HX Windows does this by default. I think Linux sets a swap partition but you may need to increase the size.

You have to delete the videos folder in the panorama folder for cs2, as its rendering a full 2.5d map in the background aside from what you already play.

I just tried this, and it doesn't really seem to make a meaningful difference on the PS4. Kicking all the bots helped a ton, but the game is still at like 60% speed

It doesn't really work like that, a graphic task cannot natively work on a cpu, that problem is present on laptops because usually they have both an iGPU and a dedicated one To be more precise, yes, CPUs can elaborate graphic tasks, but i assure you it's not a 7fps thing, more like 7 minutes per frame

This is exactly it, Its all running on CPU, I was trying to find the info on it. But as far as i know homebrew is not yet able to fully acess gpu, So its all software rending. this is why emulation outside of using sonys official emulators don't get any good performence past something like sega and SNES.

I'd know since I've just run into amdgpu not loading properly and any games I tried (Minecraft on OpenGL and a few Proton games thru DXVK on Vulkan) using the LLVM renderer

Every time one of Sonys studios releases a AAA game I think that, uncharted 2 on ps3, god of war 2016 on ps4 pro, horizon forbidden west on ps5. I think we’re at the point where graphics won’t get crazy better. Diminishing returns. Aside from frame rate I don’t think the jump from ps4 pro to ps5 was that big, it’s better but not a ps2 - ps3 jump

Played a lot of modern warfare on PS3 and I thought they should of end it there because the graphics and variety of great games. It’s was perfect just perfect, then got a ps4 and was like yeah but i would agree that the PS2 jump to PS3 was massive difference, I haven’t gotten a ps5 I don’t think I will sadly.

Three basic CS things: Don't think you run this in full screen instead of fullscreen windowed... so it will drop frames. Loading a local game with bots is dropping frames with each bot. Playing online will probably get you 20-30 FPS . CSGO and (by and large) CS2 is CPU based. So technically more RAM would be better. Even on pc, console/launch commands like no_joy to improve performance. Killing unnecessary features

Hi! I used to play cs2 on Linux, the audio problem might be because the game uses ALSA or some other lower level system directly by default instead of a higher level system like pipewire or pulseaudio, there is a command line argument to fix this, but I don't remember it right now

I fixed the audio crackling issue by changing to 24khz (it was on 21khz first and i had to search the config file and change it)

Native Pipewire should do the trick. But knowing this is PS4 it might just need to be mixed with Pulseaudio

I love all the TF2 sounds they make me really crack up. Especially the Engineer scream when the frame times were at 6 seconds a frame.

If there's any low-end PC configs for CS2, it'd be cool to see you incorporate those, like we're talking the maps literally look like N64/PS1 texture levels of low.

yeah you can change the textures to be limited to super low resolutions i had that on for a while but it didnt help my frames at all and the skins looked.. stylized

nope. i have a horrible laptop. i can assure you 1000% that bots ran miles and miles better than with real players. like 50 fps with bots and 10-20 fps with real players

the tf2 sound effects and music you use are so perfectly timed, big fan :)

There's something so nostalgic about running CS at less than 10 FPS.

Increase the audio output buffer size againt the crackling. CPU load being around 50% usually means that only half the CPU cores are being used.

Practice games are significantly more demanding because it's running bots off your cpu, and counter strike bots are demanding as hell, maybe if you tried an online game it would've worked better

should add on that running CS on linux will have a lot of shader compilation stuff. causes a lot of lag especially when doing new things in the game and in my experience will run every time you start the game. also bots are killing ur cpu

Imagine you're playing CS2 and the match is important to you, but your teammate says he's playing on PS4 💀

Given your tests, I think Radeon drivers are not working and it is using LLVM to run the 3D on the CPU. You can check with glxinfo and vulkaninfo. But given you don't have multiple resolutions, it is also likely the GPU drivers are not installed on that distro. This runs Cyberpunk at 30ish, which on a PC that does not can run CS2 at 60 (i5-3470 + GTX660). Htop will say if it is a RAM problem. CS2 also has the bad habit of turning on FSR on unsupported GPUs, so one usually wants to turn that off or resolution will be lower without the perf benefits. I already tried CS2 on low end hardware on Linux and find these results strange. If anything, the CPU would be the main problem, as besides being slow, it is further hurt by higher latancy GDDR vs desktops.

Just guessing, but i assume a custom driver probably had to be developed, since the ps4 uses a custom APU so regular drivers probably dont work

@@humanbean6672 On the PS4 they're based on the regular drivers. PS4 Pro has extra hardware for checkerboard rendering, so that one would be extra work.

I remember in 2019 before I got a computer good enough to actually run csgo I wanted to put linux on my ps4. but then I looked up a video of the ps4 getting 16 fps on csgo. It doesn't even make sense how they make modern games run on that bad of hardware.

Ps4 hardware isn't bad it's just there's no drivers and pc games aren't optimized to run on ps4 hardware.

Should've also tried the "Legacy CS:GO" build on Source 1, just for clarity of experiment and more suffering of this lovely jank.

A perfect example how differently the same code can be translated on similar, but different platforms. Or how much optimization work being made on console versions of games, how much raw performance power PC games need to render pretty much the same games.

No, it is not at all an example of PC needing more performance to run the same game. The reason that it works so badly is because it was not programmed to run on such slow CPU cores, the programmers expected a minimum core performance level and optimised the code accordingly (i.e kept things in a lower number of threads, which is faster if a computer has the required CPU performance).

Without extra details, try to run God of War or Uncharted with console settings and resolution on PC with similar specs and you will see how this is "not at all an example of PC needing more performance to run the same game". Spoiler alert: it does, much more performance needed because in addition to different platform, there is usually no f given to optimization in PC ports.

This audio reminds me of me trying to run animal crossing gamecube on my intel iris laptop with a 2.4 ghz CPU and 4 GB of ram back in like 2015. Good times, and 99% of the reason I got into hardware hacking!

Honestly if PlayStation actually released it as an official game with optimization, then 60fps would be an easy target for them. Sure they might have to build the game around a new engine but it’s durable for sure.

the problem is that there are no drivers, there is no real support for linux for a ps4 because that's not really it's main purpose. the gpu is very capable of running this game in specific at 60 frames on 1080p low

vram, also watching you restart so many times forced me into a ptsd episode from my many years or tinkering with linux and testing distros or having totally broken installs period. Thankfully these days its not so bad but damn 2013 nvidia users be like AGHAGHAGHAGH!

Yup, that audio crackling has been my experience trying to get Linux gaming to work for me. I can get virtually every game in my library to work on Linux (outside of the infamous anti-cheat games...), but no matter what I do, my audio does that *exact* same crackle. Some versions of WINE are somewhat better than others, but it's always present. Tried multiple distros, tinkering with various WINE settings, PulseAudio settings, different versions of display drivers, etc. So I guess Windows 11 will stick around on my system for a bit longer. Also, yeah, the shader compilation is a nightmare on Linux. Pretty much every game will have awful FPS for a while when you start it until it finishes its compilation. Proton takes some steps to help with this, but it's more or less unavoidable. And some games will just have that "slow" feeling. Overwatch 2, for example, supposedly ran at 120fps on my system, but it definitely did *not* feel like it. But on Windows, it feels like a completely different game because it actually is running at 120fps. I know this video is about the PS4, but it just reminded me of all the quirks I've also encountered on PC trying to get Linux gaming to work for me.

Almost 100% sure that dedicated gpu drivers were not loaded. If you checked neofetch or something it would show llvmpipe or no gpu.

Fun fact: CS:GO was ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in the day, the PS3 port even had Steam integration (like the old non big picture Shift-Tab menu but console) and Steam crossplay was promised but never came. Same thing for Portal 2, but Steam crossplay was added there. Fun fact: The PS3 Steam integration no longer works, except the news tab! You can still access the game news for both CS2 and Portal 2.

Honestly CSGO when it first dropped for the PS3 wasn't THAT bad. I'm sure it wasn't "good" compared to the pc version but it was actually a pretty fun time to be around.

In retrospect, I find it charming as hell. Like, it’s so stupid you can’t help but love it. It’s a bad port, feels clunky and there’s no real reason to play it. But the fact that it exists is amazing to me, it’s a staple of a time when gaming was still fun and innovative.

You are kiddng me? The PS4 runs CS2 in CPU mode and not with GPU. Mangohud does not show you the GPU. Btw Right Shift F9 to 12 are settings for mangohud. Also Gamescope -h720 -H1080 means upscaling from 720p to 1080p. Great vid lad. Also Linux stuff will always upscale the video to the monitor in infinite resolution. This means I would go (1920x1080)/2 = 960d540p

Perhaps you could try a PS4 Pro and see if you can get the latest mesa drivers installed.

The ram usage is high due to vram overflow into system ram, had you played with 4gigs of vram you would have most likely had better performance. That said I dont know how much ram cs2 needs so it may still run like molasses. Edit, this is windows default behavior so it may not apply to Linux, however as its a mildly easy and intelligent optimization I expect its a similar process there.

Yea possibly, and cs2 has some issue either with the vulkan rendere or just the linux variant that doesn't occur with the dx11 windows variant that causes it to usee way more vram.

What's the overlay CPU and GPU info progam called please?

with how low the ram is thats probably why performance got better when playing for longer periods ram loads in textures and when its done loading them it usually improves performance, this is the case for every game but if you have say 64gb of ram, don't even worry bout it

Can you have Mangohud show the mesa version? I wonder if its using the wrong driver. AMDGPU-pro allegedly supports the PS4's GPU, but that isn't the best driver for gaming.

If you click on the features of the game and enter the betas section, you can select CS:GO and play CS:GO. Can you try this too?

9:44 This issue is because Lxqt (the destop enviroment that you used in the video) uses the openbox windows manager,and that windows manager has bugs with steam. A easy fix is to install Kwin,go to your menu then go to settings and click on session,then select kwin_x11 under the window manager tab. After selecting kwin you will need to restart or log out.

In order to get more FPS set the aspect ratio to 4:3 and not 16:9 or 16:10

I recently got a new (very budget) PC but the GPU came in late, so I had to use a i5-7500 integrated GPU, I was still able to get over 60fps in CS2 720p low, I'm amazed that almost 7 year old iGPU preforms better than this.
