Go to tryfum.com/BRINGUS and use code BRINGUS to save an additional 10% off your order today. EDIT: Some people are confused as to what FUM actually is, and I realized that I didn't do a good job explaining what it actually is in the ad. It's just a flavored air device. It's not a vape, there's no nicotine, it's nothing like that. It's literally just cotton sticks with natural flavors/scents on them. If you've ever used one of those Glade plug in scent things, it's pretty much the same thing as those. The point of it is to give people an alternative thing to use that feels slimiar to the bad products/habits they already have, in order to make it easier to stop using them. I'm sorry that I didn't make all of that clear enough in the ad segment. Rewatching it now, I can see where the confusion comes from. I'll do a better job going forward if I take on a sponsor similar to this in the future.

@jonnaas I've received 240V and suffered nothing more serious than brief unconsciousness. It really depends on where you get shocked, how conductive you are at the locations you're making contact, and your general health. For example, my 240V was caused by bridging the live and neutral of a UK socket with the fingers on my right hand. If that same 240V had to travel across my torso for example, instead of just my hand, I would probably be dead, as it would have had the opportunity to jump across my heart. As it was, I had deep pain in my right arm, convulsions, and a short spell of not being awake. No long term consequences thankfully. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD JUST GO AND CONNECT YOURSELF TO THE MAINS! I GOT VERY LUCKY! DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY IS BY FAR THE MOST LIKELY OUTCOME!

Another fun game mode for this would be they get stronger each time you mess up, as if the patient is in worse and worse health the more you bungle the operation. For example, it could start at 5%, and every buzz increases it by another 5%. You get 20 chances, and it ends if you mess up after you've hit 100% (the patient has flatlined). You'd probably need to manually enter when you mess up, since the detection seems pretty sporadic and discontinuous, but you could do something like a one-second cooldown on detection if you wanted it to detect mistakes automatically.

The angular speed of the motor determines the frequency of the jostling. The trick to getting the maximum possible jostling of the entire playfield depends on tuning the frequency to the resonant frequency of the entire system. Rather than trying to determine that magic number, stick an accelerometer on the playfield. Use a monitoring loop to tune the motor frequency to find the optimal frequency for resonance to occur. You should make a set of metal versions of those things you have to pull out so they become an extension of the tweezers so it's an extra hard mode. Try and pull them out with the parts touching the sides for extra challenge. :D

3 possible modifications you can make. Add a button on the side, saves you hitting keyboard every time, can be one of those 1 key keyboards (maybe into a USB hub or something) if you want to get really jank with it. Add a little screen with a "Health" bar. My favourite one... Use some metal wire insulation on the tweezers. Make it go zappy zap when you mess up.

This was a fun project, good job. I’m not sure why you tied it to a PC though. Seems like with a couple buttons you could have kept that small of functionality on the microcontroller. Upgrade ideas would be to randomize the power, add LEDs next to each item and let the microcontroller show you which item you needed to get out, add some kind of sensors to each item so the game knows what is in and what is out, and add a screen to allow for two players with points earned for speed as you take turns getting parts out. All of that should be able to live on a Pi without the PC too. Oh, and it should beep and vibrate for at least 1-2 seconds, not only while direct contact is being made. Keep it up!

4:03 That's the thing about the Pico- it's incredibly versatile. You absolutely can use that USB port for serial, you can use it for anything you can program it to do. Lots of existing libraries support basic UART communication over it as a virtual serial adapter.

Here's a fun idea. Rip the metal sheet out and frame each slot with a dedicated metal frame. Then you can program each object to a different intensity, either specific or randomized. Then you might get a small buzz or a big buzz. Also to make it more annoying you could hook up a shock circuit like that that Lightning game. That would make it more intense. Add one of those super bright LEDs for the nose light. Make the quiet buzzing noise from the speaker that really loud buzzer noise you were using during the last section.

Ok I love this but Picos can definitely do 2 way communication over serial. I’m not sure how functional the default MicroPython is for it but CircuitPython is definitely capable of it. I use one as a macro keyboard with some hidden features that run over a serial terminal. The IDEs just stop script execution and boot the Pico into REPL which is a serial terminal for debugging.

What was that game called, PERFECTION? The one where you have to put the pieces in before the timer runs out. YEAH, that needs at least 4 of these motors at 50% think how fun that game could be. Turn a simple, already frustrating game, into 52 pickup as well. LOL. Edit: Might turn them into lethal projectiles. BUT what's game night without the threat of losing an eye? Boring, that's what.
