@@S1D3W1ND3R015 True, but saying “we take everything for granted” just doesn’t click. It’s too broad of an example. You have to focus on a specific detail for it all to become apparent. Suddenly you start to really think “hmm, I took roads for granted. Do I take running water for granted? What about food? Shelter? People?” The point starts to really hit home when you have a concrete example. Just saying “we take everything for granted” is too low resolution to pack a punch.

Eeeh there is a music player in your room. If you mean outside anytime then if you have even played death stranding you would know that music comes on in certain parts of the world when you get to it like reaching the top of a mountain and slowly witnessing the beauty on the other side while 'asylums for the feeling' by silent poets kicks in as you traverse down it. Having music on 24-7 is not an option one should even consider

  • @eldritchf4568

    @eldritchf4568

    2 жыл бұрын

@@nightking5907 I'll be real, I've platted Death Stranding and beaten it like 3 times, so I totally understand that Kojima wants the experience to be a certain way for at least a portion of the game. However, the ability to only listen to this astonishing soundtrack in your room, which you stay in for MAYBE 30 seconds at a time, is just not any fun. The fact that it doesn't even stay on when you come back is just the cherry on top. I think it would make a lot more sense to have the mobile MP3 player maybe be something you get as a reward for reaching a certain level with some NPC. It would fit the game's reward structure for equipment. There were just so many points in the game where I REALLY wanted to just pull up my cufflink and turn on some Low Roar while traversing a specific area. If there is scripted music, then the devs can turn off the MP3 automatically and gray it out in the options. Not like the music ever triggers right anyway.

I am a Kojima fan, however, when I discovered what this game was about, it was a hard pass for me. I couldn't fathom enjoying a game just delivering packages over and over again. When the Directors Cut was released, I gave it a second look. With recommendations from trusted reviewers (Yong Yea and Skill Up), I took a chance and made the purchase. I have no idea how Kojima did it, but he did do it...he succeeded in making a game about delivering packages very compelling, engaging, engrossing and fun. I am still in awe that I love this game as much as I do. I can even go as far to say that it's among the best experiences I have ever had playing a video game. However, I can't pinpoint precisely what it is. I believe it's the sum of many things that make this game a truly unique and immersive experience. I'm even enjoying the less-than-challenging aspect of the title. It seems it was intentionally designed to be an easy game, as it's focus is meant to be about the journey and experience; not about any hard goals or accomplishments. This, to me, is very refreshing. Many people tout about pushing quickly to the 3rd chapter. I don't agree. I think this game should be slowly savoured, explored, and enjoyed from the beginning. This game is CHILL, and it's awesome. "Keep on keeping on..."

They captured the enjoyable essence of hiking very well with this game. I enjoy walking very much because its low impact exercise while easy and safe enough to enjoy your surroundings and allow your mind to wander while you do it. Hiking is a step further where you occasionally still need to pay attention and make an effort to overcome an obstacle. But theres a balance between the two. Combine that with the satisfaction of completing tasks and receiving praise from both real and fictional people, and you get a very interesting experience.

This is like a game of logistics where you you are always problem solving and trying to find the most efficient methods and routes to deliver the most of amount of cargo to a given destination. Yeah, I think I get what you mean. Hard to describe, but it kind of feels like Kojima's games are always tacitly deconstructing themselves, in a way that most conventional works are really not expected to (more "self aware", is another way of putting it) - with the casual 4th wall breaks and the embrace of certain types of "campiness" (i.e. "The thing that's happening on screen here is stupid - You know it, and the director knows it - But it's also kind of cool so let's just roll with it. Y'know, just work with me here."). The "dialogue" between the author and the player has a very different tone, like he's inviting you to think about/riff on the game as you're thinking within it/playing it. Takes some getting used to, and it's very much a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing even then, so I completely understand why certain people don't like it. Even though, personally, I'm very happy that this game exists.

It's not other people's problem if you can't appreciate or understand his work. Kojima's games are art, not a commodity.

I drove using the roads until your about to cross the river towards the Cosplayer. I drove up the river and drove over a bridge I built that takes me to the eastern base of the hill down from the Weather Station. I made it in 5 mins in a truck. I still haven't built a single zip line yet which I feel will be needed more for the snowy mountains when I start traversing them. So far I love the concepts introduced in this game. I would love a survival rpg based on the physics engine of this game. I love exploring on foot in the fast open areas.

I’ll never understand why they didn’t think to release a free demo of this game. There’s probably so many people out there who would actually like this game if they gave it a try. But having to pay money to play it when they’re far from guaranteed to enjoy it is enough to make many people not risk it. It’s definitely not for everyone. But then again, no game ever is. Personally, I loved it, platinumed it and will happily platinum it again if I can. But I would never implore anyone to buy it outright. Find a way to try it first before handing over your money.

I think the issue with that is that the demo would almost certainly consist of the worst parts of the game, the beginning. Death Stranding's got a gameplay loop that only really reveals itself after several hours of play when you've grasped the basics of movement and traversal, and _then_ can start playing with the toys to make that process more interesting.

Agreed. This game is just built different, and very much not for everyone. Steam refunds don't really work well as a demo here either, since the gameplay lends itself to being meticulous, and you can't really properly do that under time pressure. The mass of front-loaded cutscenes don't help either. Then again, I can also see how it would be hard to turn any area of this game into a demo and have it feel like a good representation, because of how the story/journey is set up. I would almost advocate for, like, a stand-alone side story where you play as some random porter in a small sandbox area with only basic equipment. But that would be a hell of an investment for just a demo.

I would take what I thought was a shortcut, say down into a gorge or something, only to find myself in a very trecherous, precarious location with no obvious footpaths. Then I would spot it - a ladder that had been propped up against a boulder, a bike left behind from another player with the message "feel free to use," and so on. Expecting a new Silent Hill or something. And then the walking came. And the packages and talk about people playing together... People started to get worried - is this a walking delivery simulator? Sure, new things need to be experimented. But in your first studio game??? This should have been a side project. Yes, a lot of people liked it. But think of the number of people who got put off about it. No matter where you land your dart - you will hit something. But the goal is to hit the center of the target.

This was a bait and switch for me too. The premise looked so interesting. The world war trailer with Mads Mikkelsen and zombie soldiers etc, weird invisible monsters, post-apocalypse, time-travel. All that in the end for a game that's basically, but not really, Snowrunner :D I got DS for free and I have played maybe 20 hours and disappointment made me quit. I have easily over 100 hours on Snowrunner and I still fire that game up every now and then. SR just got it right with making the whole world a big puzzle and challenge for you to conquer. MGSV was also another bitter disappointment. Gameplay was amazing, but it just didn't feel like Metal Gear anymore. The story was told so poorly imo, but I still played the shit out of that game. That's how good the mechanics were. I think it's time for me to stop expecting anything from Mr. Kojima, and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised one day. What a rant. Sorry :D

FYI the jump ramps are maybe BEST suited for on foot travel. Pair them with a speed skeleton and/or level 4 stabilizer. you can almost jump zip line distance in the right mountain top. lvl 4 stabilizer is a sleeper. I get people not wanting to give up their backpack battery but in late game, with online players, roads...theres a lot of power to charge. the flying jumps are insane

They just put out a new album, but it doesn't resonate with me as much as the stuff that was added to DS. Hell, I even fired up VorpX and tried playing Death Stranding in VR. Because of my increasing fanhood of the game, I wanna go visit Iceland. Iceland is not only where the landscape is ripped straight out of (The Beach is one of the famous Icelandic Black Beaches, in video game form... it's a photorealistic copy. Nothing has been changed and i feels like you are actually there when you do a side-by-side photo comparison) but is also where Kojima visited IRL and where Low Roar is based. One of my dreams is to be cremated and have my ashes scattered at the real life Beach.

As soon as i unlocked ziplines i built a giant network that connected every prepper, knot, and distribution center. Also everyone puts a zipline south of mountain knot in the wrong place. everyone puts it at the very top of the mountain directly behind heartman's lab. Instead put it about 300m east of that spot and you'll be able to connect a zipline right in front of his front door and another zipline that can reach the top of the mountain across the lake.

Yong, you should make a video about an important subject, that is a problem for the whole videogame industry: License expiration, the videogame industry has so many problems, that people forget about this. Dead by Daylight has DLC for the series Stranger Things, but the DLC is going to be removed from the game in November. This is a small part of a much bigger problem, it's 2021, and there are still games and DLC removed from digital stores because they are based on a license like a movie, show, cartoon, comic, sports league or celebrity, or has licensed music included, and when the license expires, the game goes away, and this isn't a problem of "physical vs. digital" because GoldenEye 007 cannot be sold again anymore too, the only way to play that game without pirating is finding the original N64 carts, and those are not going to last forever, Rare is not even allowed to make those reproduction carts. While copyright laws are a big mess, and they need a reform, the real issue is that videogame companies refuse to pay more for a permanent license, where even when the license expires, they are still allowed to sell the game, they just can't make another game, when Hollywood studios makes movies based on properties they don't own or use licensed music, they can sell that movie forever even when don't have the rights anymore, the movie rights to Ghost Rider are no longer owned by Sony, they can't make a third Ghost Rider movie, but can still sell the other two.

From what you said apparently the balance of the game seems to be intact. Which is something very underrated in DS. While structures like Zip-Lines streamlined the game a lot, there's always trade offs. If you're not in the mountains, there's probably a way to carry more cargo (roads + truck i.e.) to multiple different preppers while the Zip-Line will make trips much faster but will also ask you to do the same trip multiple times. The Cargo Launcher seems to incentivize snowboarding in the carrier a lot which is something I felt I wanted to do A LOT in the original game but was discouraged by the amount of cargo I was constantly carrying.

Its my hope that death stranding will now resonate with alot more players after what the world has been through and is still going through. It really is such a unique game. I think people are more aware of just how special it is now that more people are talking about it on next gen plus these new additions make the early game faster for people who don't have alot of time to invest so its a win win. The biggest complaint about death stranding was because people couldn't make it past the first 10 hours of the game when it really starts to kick off. Some journalists back in 2019 LITERALLY put out reviews of the game based on the first couple hours and done nothing but complain about it calling it a boring walking simulator when it really is SO much more than that. The whole world literally opens up to you after the first couple chapters and you start to get exoskeletons, floating carriers, bikes, trucks you name it which changes the game and now there's even more fun equipment added to speed things up like an actual jetpack lol can't wait to experience that one. I have invested 160hours in to death stranding on the ps4 pro and got the platinum which was a hell of a lot of fun and will be playing it again from the beginning on the ps5 that is how much I love it. When people say that this game is zen and meditative there not being sarcastic. Few games can completely envelop me and bring me to a place where death stranding has taken me. People should definitely experience this game now if for nothing else but to experience the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers because death stranding is now possibly the best way to experience that if you don't count astros playroom. Give it a chance trust me you won't be disappointed
