It's my personal opinion as someone that studied marketing but does not have a KZread channel, let alone a successful KZread channel (so take my opinion with a grain of salt) that a logo should not take up the entire screen. Most of the time logos are played at the beginning of the video right after an intro to act as a transition into the flow of the rest of the video. I always thought this was counterintuitive because the beginning of the video is the most crucial time for the viewer to decide if they will watch the rest of the video or not. So if a logo pops in that breaks all their attention they become uniterested and click off. For this reason, I like logos that play over the video instead and don't break away from the action. I understand the point of showing a logo is to appear both more legitimate, and to increase brand awareness of your viewers. A logo with a transparent background that plays over the video without breaking the audio or action is best to me. Short, simple, just puts the logo in the viewer's face for 1 second so they start to recognize it in your thumbnails as your brand. This is what I think would be the best practice. Again though, I've never made a channel so I might be totally wrong but just wanted to share my opinion. I think you make good content and I want you to succeed.

I sometimes experiment with not having a logo at the beginning of my videos and to be honest I don't tend to see any difference with audience drop off. I like the idea of having a logo that plays over the the action though....I should have had one created whilst updating this channel 🙂Definitely something I'm keen to look into and test in future videos. Thanks Andy, I found the designers I used on Fiverr to be particularly reliable and easy to work with. Any amendments that were needed happened fast so its definitely worth checking out. Hope this helps.

I clicked this video because im a follower but i loved the remake with the smartphone in. Im personally not a fan of ‘facial expression’ thumbs even though i know they gain clicks so prefer the other one. Animated logo intro looks great and i agree the title screen looks crisp and eye catching well wotprth the cost. Great video as always. Now fiver lets see what you can do for me…..

Hey @Bella's Big Adventures! Thanks for your comment, I agree with everything you've said. I'm big fan of the new KZread cover remake with the smartphone but also not a huge fan of expressive thumbnails. The colour of this thumbnail (purple) is also a little off brand for my channel but its been a very interesting experiment. Super happy with all the new animations and channel branding...Normal/less expressive thumbnails will return as usual next week 🙂

Thanks for the tips and advice 👍🏼 Regarding the thumbnail for this video, I actually tend to avoid videos with the “shocked/wow” face as they always feel a bit clickbaity to me. But I watched the video as I’ve enjoyed your previous work.

I like cover #2 from designer #1 - good design is about one main thing; everything else should be subordinate - Steve is looking personable and he's the main focus. Designer 2's design (your preferred choice) divides attention three ways, lessening the overall impact. Just my thoughts.

Changes look great. Curious if others have a pet peeve about the "O face" thumbnail which seems extremely overused elsewhere across YT: overly dramatic and really cheesy. A personal touch - you and/or your natural face - works with a personal, professional brand like yours, so it doesn't need to be contrived. Cheers and thanks for the great content.

Quite wonderful. A thought I would add: we've used the same message for the home page main text of our small private school's website for 30 years. Why? Because prospective parents aren't a captive audience; they are a parade of constantly new people. And as advertising legend David Ogilvy preached, don't change a message that's working. That doesn't mean you shouldn't update the graphics; you don't want a "look" that says "1995." But if your selling proposition is still pulling them in, you don't want to change it just because YOU are getting bored with it. If you're saying "LSMFT - Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco," well yeah, change it. (1952: "Lord Save Me From Truman.") But not if you're saying "Mom, I Love School!" and it's still THE differentiating message that is true and sets your school apart.

Your pointing at the recommended video is a little bit offset lol. On another note, i really like the changes and i do think it's good to reach out to people who know what they are doing when you realise that your own work is not good enough. Might give this fiverr thing a try myself... 🤔 cheers!

What the heck is YouChube?

I dont think any modern algorithm likes me, i dont even notice banners, thumbnails, animations...none of that stuff makes any difference whatsoever to me. I click on videos exclusively by title. Every time i see people posting comments about thumbnails, i have to go back and actually see wft they are even talking about. Colors, design... absolutely dont care and dont notice unless its absolutely horrible. like i cant see the letters or whatever else. P.S. totally hate banners and all the stuff that appears on the video at any given time...its just distracting, and not to mention the accidental clicks.... I would be super happy if all youtubers would leave 5-6 seconds in the end of every video EXCLUSIVELY for links to other stuff - you finish the video and then leave all the other stuff up.

I like almost everything. I’m not a fan of the thumbnail for this episode. I don’t understand why people do the “faces” on their thumbnails. What are you gasping at. I much prefer the othe thumbnails.

Don’t worry Michael, thumbnails will resume back to normal next week. This was a test to see how well a colourful/more expressive thumbnail would perform….turns out, not so well 😂
