I’m so glad I found one pre-COVID. I paid $6k for my 06 back in 2018. It had 136k miles, now it’s up to 246k and it’s a damn good truck.

What major job/problem you had to fix since you purchased it if you don't mind me asking? I just bought mine (2006 Tundra Access Cab SR5 TRD with 164K miles) just wondering when will I have to do the timing belt, water pump, transmission job etc... The guy I bought it from said it was his grandpa's and as far as he knows, there's no major job done yet. I check with the VIN app but didn't find much info on it.

2006 tundra best year made. It is a premium truck. No corners where cut in the design. Million mile motor is the 2uzfe's name. Keep it. Check frame by fuel tank for overlap rust. I have to same truck.

Neighbor sold me their silver 2003 Tundra Access cab, matching Leer topper, bed liner, 80,000 miles, garaged, no rust for 10,000 back in 2014. Truck now has 90,000 miles. I don't drive it much.

I pad $18k for my 2006 tundra trd in 2010 with 13k miles. 225,000 miles later, still going strong

Body looks in great shape! That surface rust underneath seems easy to keep under control.

I bought mine in 2017 for $6500 2006 Doble cab SR5 with 180k I replaced the battery and timing belt and put original tie rods on it. It now has 315k miles on it, and it's still driving perfectly.

As a California native I understand. These trucks are a premium out here but that was a lot for over 100k miles. But outside of the rust, very nice truck! And the money you have put into it is well worth it in my opinion. I don’t keep anything stock, but all the fluid & maintenance will ensure this truck goes far beyond what you paid for it! You will get your money back in use or resale. Salute!

Yeah I was thinking the same thing I just bought mine last month with only different is Access with 165K miles Cab and everything else the same for 7 grand. Really hope I got a great deal.

You got a great deal. Looks gorgeous and capable. The truck looks like it was babied. Love the driver arm rests. Please watch out for your back. You can never be too protective.

I bought a 2006 Tundra yesterday for $6500 with 190,000 miles. It has some body damage on the drivers side but it's not too bad. I was considering two 2007's that were around $13,000.

I paid $8,000 for mine in 2015 it now has 280,000 miles on it and since I’ve had it I have not had a single issue what so ever. I’ve put some money into it over the years, not because it broke down I just peice by piece have replaced parts to ensure it’s going to last forever. Currently I’m replacing the whole timing belt setup even though it was still working perfectly fine which it crazy because it’s the first time the timing belt system has been replaced because in trucks this old they usually only past around 100,000 miles and this truck has 260,000 miles. But other then that writhing the last 8 years I’ve replaced that, full brakes and routers, ignition coils, spark plug wires, the exhaust system( with stock exhaust ) I’ve actually replaced everything with stock OEM parts. So like I said it’s sitting at 260,000 miles and it runs like a brand new truck rolling off the lot, I haven’t had any work what so ever done to the transmission and it still feels like a brand new truck. I’m so happy I bought this truck when I did because they don’t make trucks like this anymore whatsoever not even close for it to be such a small pick up truck which used to be considered full sized and having a eight cylinder engine is awesome like it’s nothing special but it’s definitely got some get up and go and power but that’s why I think 10 or 20 years down the roadto have this truck fully stock in perfect condition will be a cool little truck to have for sure you already don’t see many of this make and model on the road anymore and when you do, they’re usually beat up

I’m gonna wait a few months after getting all of this timing belt and alternator stuff replaced because it is costing a decent chunk of cash but next order of business now that everything engine wise is in perfect mint condition I’m going to start replacing all of the interior cosmetic parts, one at a time like the dash knobs all of that stuff, which may be a pain in the butt to findalso like headlights and tail lights the little light over the back window stuff like that I know that stuff is pretty easy to find OEM parts. My goal is to just keep the truck 100% stock parts.

i just bought a blue steel 06 dc 4wd 62k miles clean title, not a lick of rust for 10k. guy owned it since 08 as a leisure beach cruiser. i will say though, you did get a decent deal. mine was more of a once in a lifetime deal.

Nothing a little Corroseal won't fix. I have a 2005, brushed on the corroseal, paint right over it, all good. These trucks are bullet proof. Hopefully the timing belt was done, at 120K might be time to do it just in case. I did mine at 40K but it was 17 years old.

I bought one 2 years ago, I live in SoCal, it’s was around the same price for one with 92k miles for a White Limited 4x4 Double Cab. Mine definitely was not as clean as this one, mine had cosmetic damage running boards were scratched, headlights were oxidized, Steering wheel leather was discolored, Front seats needed leather replaced, and tires needed to be replaced, fast forward to 2024 it’s all he repaired and I really enjoy it. Prices are higher because we live in CA and Toyota tax on sought after vehicles. Most the other ones I for sale had 150-300k miles on them so I feel pretty confident I’m the purchase.

Well done. It's been a good truck for me thus far. Turning radius isn't great and I wish it were smaller, but it's big enough inside for me - so that's most important.

My dad got his brand new 2006. It hit 100,000 in Aug of 2018. January 2020 he pass away and gave me the truck. Now it's 139.478 on the dash...I think i'm doing good with it...

Great deal if it hasneen well maintained my 06 TRD 4x4 xcab 255,000 uses a quart every3500 miles ihave k and n air system 3 inch exhaust with flo master 275 75 16 10 0ly tires ilive in rural Nevada and this is my work horse haul rock firewood and7n winter 60 PC it is in 3 wheel drive one cv boot.and carrier bearing only parts 5hat failed. Regmaint timing belt.0lugs and replace coils at 174,000 mile good choice

Hey bud I bought a 2006 with 140k for 12k 2 years ago . I sold my 2003 Tacoma double cab prerunner for 13 k with 126k..needless to say I have no regrets..4x4 is the way to go and these go for 1 million miles . Great truck and great video …I’m in Carson California

Very good choice mate, I have the same color 2006 truck except the 4x4. Second owner bought in 2008, no regrets.

Brutal. I just paid 6 for an 03 trd with a nice lift and $1300 in almost new tires, mint interior, fresh timing belt, etc. For 18, you can get into a mid miles very nice gen 2.

Things have changed a bit since I bought this. Remember there's a difference between the 03 and 06 in terms of transmission, but also in terms of Double Cab vs Access Cab. Not a straight comparison. Also, your TRD OR package isn't what they are currently. Mostly just cosmetic. But still, $6k for a good vehicle is a smart move.

Truck looks super clean! Regarding the taillights, possible the bed rail had something heavy to slightly bend the corner? or it's just a poor quality aftermarket taillight that just doesn't have great fit. Rust doesn't look that bad- superficial hopefully.

@@thelandcruiserproject If you look at the height of the right side of the bed compared to the tailgate you notice that its lower than the tailgate. Something heavy fell on that side of the bed and caused it to flatten, bowing out the side panel. That is the issue with the light not fitting. Just compare it to the left side of the bed and it is at the same height as the tailgate.

You can get one of those hydraulic piston tools from Harbor Freight or rent one, insert it into the space with blocks of wood at both ends and press it up. I would have someone apply side pressure on the body panel where it is bulging out near the tail light at the same time to coax it back into shape.

I haven't had to do anything on it besides just replacing all the fluids. Timing belt and water pump were done by Toyota before I bought it. Lower ball joints are on my radar as preventative maintenance. Brakes could probably be refreshed as they are old but not worn. At your mileage, if you don't have a timing belt service in records I'd really look into getting that done ASAP.

That's not bad actually. These people are insane. I paid $18k in 2008 for a 2006. I have 178k and bought it with 68k. Assuming no frame issues, these trucks will go up in value with all these poser ass "overlander" people. That's all surface rust in your video. I wouldn't feel buyer's remorse for sure. I'd say it's a good buy. The 2uz is bulletproof.

Loving this channel man. I’ve always wanted to do commentary on some of the auctions on cars and bids/ BaT-my niche is more civic/integra. I’m getting really into this vintage of Tundra though as I’ve long since been a fan of the gen 1 Tacoma and gen 3 4runner. Can’t believe how they’ve skyrocketed in value. I feel like I remember seeing this online (I remember the pic with the first set of chrome wheels you showed, im in the reno area)Patience is key I just looked at a gen 3 4Runner I thought was too good to be true at the price it was at. Turned out the guy just didn’t know the market. Only walked away because there was too much work to do. So yea deals are still out there you just have to wait and be the first there with cash which is always kind of scary because you’re gambling not getting a good PPI. Anyway, your channel really struck a chord, love the pre auction discussions and this review.

Good lord 20k? I got a daily quality clean access cab that needs ball joints struts and has an exhaust leak that I need to address… but I paid 5500 for it. Rust free solid frame 2wd. All in I’ll be at like 8k, maybe more with wheels and tires

Rear tail light assemblies, there are different sizes depending on truck build. recommend you get sidesteps/nerf bars so that you don't tear driver seat getting in and out. I've got an 03 extcab flare side bed, rare. SR5 with 264K. Timing belt gets done every 90+'s K with waterpump and coolant hoses. I bought it from my dad, I'm second owner. I've installed 10" touch screen system, rear and fwd camera's, installed power antenna so I don't have to worry going through car wash. 2003 did not come with TPS, Installed as part of my touch screen system. (Car Play or Android compatible). Great Truck.

And I’m getting on with 87,456 miles for $9000 in excellent condition and I thought it’s too much

As you can imagine, there are different trim levels for the 2006 model year. Not all came with steering wheel audio controls (like mine). Optional on SR5 trim, standard on Limited. Much prefer the 1st gen design over the bubbly 2nd gens. And the backseat of the double cab 1st gen seems to be bigger than a 2nd gen double cab. Didn't want the short bed crew cab

Mmm hmm. Buy a "pre-owned" 1st-generation Tundra, and immediately have to replace the timing belt and water pump, the radiator, and the lower ball joints, and hope you didn't miss the rust that could disintegrate the FRAME, because you don't know the maintenance history..... and sellers STILL think it's worth twice what a comparable F-150 is, just because "T". No, thanks.

@@thelandcruiserproject - Because you don't want to risk destroying the valvetrain and/or pistons of an interference motor, and you have no idea when the belt was last replaced, or the quality of whatever belt is in there. You do the water pump because you're already in there.

Most people don't keep good records if you're buying private party, and pretty much all used car dealers throw away service records, or don't get them at all because they buy at auction. I'm happy you found a well-maintained Tundra..... they're a much better investment than anything made in the last 10-15 years.

Just drove 3 states over to get my 2006 double cab tundra. It has 180k miles and tons of maintenance records and really clean. Loving it so far! Paid 14k for it a month ago. Theyre not cheap
