I'm a single mom and the first time I heard this song I cried. It takes a real man to step up and raise someone else's kid like their own.

You are correct I will forever be grateful to my husband for stepping up. I had 3 kids 4,3 and 1 one day this wonderful man just took on the headaches he took us off welfare food stamps. My kids knew now what it was to now not go hungry wear good shoes and clothes etc. we have been together 30 years. He’s not perfect but where there biological father failed no child support no visitation in 25 years or anything at least the kids enjoyed vacations, little league, everything kids are supposed to.

@@sherrera66 Usually don't put this out, but met my wife of 42 years during a domestic abuse situation with her ex boyfriend, put him in hospital for a long time for what I saw him doing that night. Long story short, she had 2 and 4 year olds that I accepted as my own a year and a half later when we were married. We also have 2 of our own, but for me, it will always be 4. Their bio POS disappeared after suggestion from Judge and has never been heard from. Takes more than biology to be a parent.

I have done it three times and have helped raise 7 children in the 3 relationships,, all three cheated on me and its not the fact that they (mothers) are gone but they take the children away to and in most cases that hurt worse,, a few of that kids have since have gotten old enough to contact me and stay in touch but I have since pretty much given up on ever haveing a relationship,, one of the fathers even contacted me and thanked me for being so good and protecting his kids for 9 years,, that was so straight up for him to do that,, anyway if a man does this and actually loves the kids as if they are the woman should take her self off the market instead of using him as a temp father

Awesome song! Always brings the tears! I lost the man I called dad back in 2007. I have to admit that I gave this man hell throughout my teens. I constantly disrespected him. I wouldn't listen to him. He never faltered though and continued to treat me like I was biologically his. As we were standing in the church on my wedding day, he kissed my forehead, pulled my veil down, and told me I looked stunning. He held out his arm and said, "Are you ready?" All I said was, "Thank you for everything!" I will never forget his response. "You don't have to thank me! That's what daddies do!" ....but he didn't have to!

This is the song my oldest daughter had for father daughter dance at her wedding (never lied to her or her brother that I was not their biological father even though I was the only one they knew as Dad) I was the one who broke and cried like a baby because I had never heard that song before.

I danced with my dad at my wedding to this song. The fact we weren’t blood related never mattered to him. He met me when I was 2 years old and from that moment on he loved me unconditionally. He was so proud of being my kids grandpa, in his eyes they were the greatest anyone could have. He didn’t have to be the dad he was to me, but he CHOSE to be. This May it will be 4 years since he passed away from cancer. When I hear this song, the tears just fall from my eyes. I wrote him a letter and placed it in his casket with him. On it, I wrote “thank you for choosing me.” I miss him so much.

My son was 12 when my 2nd husband came into my life. I'd made it clear that we were a package deal. My husband asked my son and my father fir my hand in marriage before he asked me. Then, both my daddy and my son gave me away at the wedding. My son has 4 kids now and he's a wonderful daddy. Much of that is due to the love and lessons my husband gave him. ❤

Truth spoken. My biodad is my brother's step-dad and even after he and my mom divorced, anything my dad did with me he did with my brother too. He stayed his dad. Then my stepmother and dad divorced and we still have a relationship to the point she invites me and my son to her new family's events and her mom still asks to hang out with my dad and my biomom. Luckily my son's dad is still in his life but if I ever get into another relationship the guy better understand what he's getting into because it seems our family is like a black hole... ain't no one escaping 😂. Shout out to all the people who can rise above and be there for the kids.

Thy married and welcomed 3 more kids, me being the youngest. My dad always treated my oldest siblings as his own. My mom and dad were married 65 before mom passed 2 years ago. My dad is my hero!

I have been the "step mom" in this situation. We weren't married though. My ex had 2 kids and I remember being so nervous to meet them. I stood on the other side of the wall and took a deep breath before I went in the other room to introduce myself. It ended up going really well. His son was maybe like 5 at the time and his daughter was 12. What's really sad and f*cked up is that he is no longer a part of his kids' lives. I am still in touch with his daughter and she actually invited me to her wedding this past September. I was UGLY CRYING when she showed me pics of her trying wedding dresses on!!! Just seeing her blossom into this beautiful young woman is such an honor. I love her so much! Makes me cry every time I think about it. I will always be there for her for the rest of my life, and she will always be that 12 year old girl I used to doll up for fun every time she came over. She said to me... "Its crazy that you're not even my biological parent and you're here for me and my own dad can't even be here and hasn't been for years." Breaks my heart for her, but her stepdad ended up adopting her as his own daughter. It was also extremely important for me to be on good terms with her mother. Her and I are also close. She told me she always had so much respect for me and I'm the onlu girlfriend of his that she liked and respected, because I reached out to her first and I would discuss things with her and not just go and do whatever. For example, her daughter wanted her hair cut for Christmas... I reached out to her mom and asked permission first because I didn't want to overstep my boundaries. Her mom said it was ok if I took her to a salon to get her hair done. Its little things like that, that go a long way. My ex HATED that I was friends with his daughter's mom. When I find my future husband, I'll be there and love his kids as if they were my own (if he has kids). I even plan on fostering/adopting in honor of my dad, who was adopted at the age of 2. I have so much love in my heart to give and there are lots of kids out there who just need love and somebody to be there. I wish I could take them all in so no child is left out. When I look to the future, I see my home as a safe place for all of our kids and their friends to come if they they got problems going on at home, they need a home cooked meal, someone to talk to, etc. How can I help? I grew up homeless on and off til I was 9 years old and there wasn't always food to eat and my brothers and I would have to ask a neighbor for food. Its because of the way I grew up that I feel so strongly about being that safe haven for any child.

I totally understand. I have two boys and a step daughter from my first marriage. Even after our divorce she still to this day calls me mom. Now with my second marriage she calls my new husband dad. He has three children who love me. All six of them consider themselves brothers and sisters. It just shows that family is not always blood relations but the ones you choose as family.

My daughter is older.. late 30's and she's with a guy who is divorced with a daughter.. One of the issues she has is that she always feels second to his daughter.. and that's understandable.. but the ex wife is also in the picture, which makes my daughter always feel last on the list. So.. my advice to you is 1st find a woman who does want to be your wife and want to be stepmother.. but your job is to make sure whoever you choose that they feel valued and not second class in the family. Kids are devious.. They will play parents against each other.. they will manipulate.. they aren't being bad.. they are just emotional little folks, so make sure adults are all on the same page. Just my grandma's advice since I can tell your daughter is the most important person in your life.

You play daddy unless things work out that why people avoid single mom and dads cause the risk of getting attached and if failing is not worth it
