    I can relate so much to the dislike of people not telling each other their critiques or concerns regarding each others work. I work in atomic research and one of our new workers was so bad at electronics building my coworker in charge of her decided to tell her in a professional manner everything she did wrong bc the circuit literally didnt work. She turned around and complained to HR leading to him getting fucking reprimanded bc he explained to her that her circuits literally dont work. I often feel like I struggle to get any better at my job bc literally everyone pretends we are all performing perfectly... Also coworker quit shortly afterward he couldn't take the bs.

    Almost sounds like you need a "Bug Report" form for feedback, to cut through the pleasantries! Subject: 'I need feedback' video Bug: Despite being subscribed on my main account, the Karos video didn't show up in my feed Replication Steps: Live overseas so you're asleep during the upload. Suggested Resolution: Periodically ring a bell at us and stare at us menacingly in a video, so we remember to click the stupid bell icon in youtube to *actually* get notifications; saying 'click the bell icon' is so mainstream (too uncool for you) that we'd definitely tune-it-out, out of habit. Additional notes: Hello, hope you're well, love your videos and I appreciate the quality and consideration you (and your team) put in.

    Idk why they're messaging you like that considering your personality until I remember people on Twitter and Reddit. I had a guy sperg out on Twitter because I told a popular game creator, "I wish you luck on your game" and the fan of the guy went FERAL. Like Holy S dude all I did was wish him luck with his project! Or the other guy where I said, "yeah this anime isn't my thing; I don't like this anime and I'm not even 10 minutes in. You do you king." And the guy proceeds to freak out because I wasn't being soft with him. As someone with the tism it's a breath of fresh air to see people like Josh who say, "please be blunt and direct not soft and mushy"

    I feel this and I love hearing someone else talk about it too. I do theater and I'd like to improve my acting, but I never get told anything that could help me improve. Not only that, people also don't ever explain what was good about my act, so I start to feel like they're just saying things to be nice. A friend of mine, also an actor, was really thankful to me for actually giving them detailed feedback on a play they were in, since they hadn't got anything else from people other than "yeah it was good".

  • @AlastairGames

    yeah it's very challenging to give feedback well, it can be uncomfortable to speak how you really feel about something, though it is good to hear people like Josh encourage people to try. It's a real skill that takes practice I think. And also, sometimes articulating the precise and accurate feedback is hard.

  • @janeenschultz8502

    @janeenschultz8502

    Actually being able to give feedback is also frustrating because people receiving the feedback are usually split between "Wow, that was helpful. Thanks," and, "Wow, why are you so mean to me?" when there is no mean intention at all and they just immediately take offence.

  • @mandisaw

    @mandisaw

    Generally you only get good/bad feedback from people unfamiliar with the actual skillset. Only other skilled people in that field can dig-in and give you more detailed & actionable feedback. Ideally they'd be more experienced than you, but it can be useful to talk to peers as well. It's why most artists have circles, so you can have other artists familiar with the specific challenges articulate what you got right or wrong. If possible, maybe reach out to other actors, both in your same theater troupe and outside of it, to run some scenes & monologues together. Everyone should go into it open to comment & [fair] critique, with the intention of coming out of the exercises stronger in their performance. If there's specific areas you/others want to focus on (e.g. timing), bring that up at the start. Good luck!

    wrt the Karos video editing, I think the style is overall clear and acceptable, but I felt like the humor was much less frequent than it typically is, your jocund asides not punctuating the video as much. Having said that, the intro bit about the goblin problem is an A+ framing device, I'm a major fan of deconstructionist stuff like that (though i guess deconstruction is probably not the right term, more like basic media literacy + peeling back ludonarrative dissonance?).

    Feedback on the Karos vid--the pacing of your script delivery felt a LOT faster than usual, and as a result it felt a lot more like a script read than direct response. I understand that it's always a script read and not an immediate response but there's something about the quality of a slower delivery that both lets the jokes have space to breathe and just feels more "homey", if that makes sense. Also I appreciate your more natural vocal fry and either the mic or the production smoothed a lot of that out and I missed it! The editing overall felt slick apart from the general pacing.

    Feedback is why I'm having a surprisingly good time helping my sister resuscitate our family company. I make things for the website or whatever, sometimes I try some new stuff, she tells me exactly which things she likes, which were found likeable in a quick and dirty UX study, which are known to not be good for SEO etc. Sometimes we have a little talk and negotiate a solution. But most of the time it takes literally like 5 words about each thing and we're clear for life on what to do, and what to not do. I will never again work with anyone who can't provide clear feedback. Life's too short.

    About apologising for disturbing someone, i don't think it's pertinent to entirely reject it. Sure, if you know you're going to waste someone's time, don't. And if you know you're not, apologising is nonsense. But there are situations where you *might* be disturbing someone for nothing, or not, you're not sure. Or you may be contacting someone whose job isn't to deal with your situation, but there's a problem elsewhere and there's noone else to turn to; in which case, using that formula as a preamble is just caution and politeness, wouldn't you say ?

    I enjoyed the zooming in and out of important bits or the parts that you are mentioning at the moment. Makes it easier to figure out the mass of menus and such, and better underlines your points. I saw the video, youtube even showed me when it will premier, so that all worked well on my end at least (always am looking forward to new videos, but also am not doing that... "Premier viewing" as chat then annoys me rather and youtube struggles to maintain quality. What I did not like... mmmhm, memes are fine when they pop up, but fully red screens are bad (liiike late night watching does not like that!) or loud noises over the usually calmer videos you do (I like your voice, very smoothing, and hearing people slap their forehead loudly fits not at all) So, good video, good editor, smaller flaws.

    in the first 30 seconds of the Karos video, there are 5 different key-framed camera zooms of varying speeds (4 out of 5 i believe were zoom outs). That averages to about 1 zoom every 6 seconds. That makes the video feel somewhat "cheapened" with arguably the worst/most used attention grabbing effect possible.

    I can confirm Josh actually does read comments because once I very jokingly pointed out what could be perceived as contradictory complaints between two different videos that were both years old. (This game would've done better if it didn't do X while other video said this game would've done better if it DID do X) As in if you just took what he said literally it would seem like they were contradictory but they obviously weren't because it's two very different games. But even though these videos were both years old he responded to my comment in less than a day. I feel bad though because he felt the need to defend his point because my teasing sarcasm was taken seriously but I was impressed that such a popular content creator with a LOT on his plate still found time to engage with comments on extremely old videos. Josh is the man.

    I don't use Twitter, so I'll say it here - I think you should've tried to do a bit of russian translation (even through a simple Google translate). Like, I'm russian and I understood what the negative Steam review of Karos, you showed in the video was talking about. But I think when a viewer sees a potentially serious foreign message (like that exact review was) stretched over the monitor, I'd like to know what it's talking about. Especially, if the game has non-english publishers/developers or a prevalence of nonenglish-speaking community. (Offtop, but I'd like to mention that it was very nice of you to tell what kind of feedback you'd like to hear - some content-creators aren't as vocal about it)

    I didn't plan on watching the latest WMMOE (World Wrestling Mysterious Occult Entertainment), mostly because the title covered was an absolute unknown number to me and the thumbnail didn't seem entertaining? After watching it, yeah, the script was good (funny as always) and I've learned something new. I would prefer if you would talk more about what to improve as well, or how you would do it. I don't mean this as a complaint about you complaining, more as a thing of interest in game design. I wouldn't do more clickbaity thumbnails, but I would have used a thumbnail that is more fun? God I am the bad client I always fear to have. Have you tried more thumbnail? Increasing the thumbnail ratio of fun and information? /s What I would have done, is putting the missing translation into the thumbnail, for example. As the thumbnail is now, it us just another female character in a long line of female characters in the front and gameplay in the back. The thumbnail also repeats the information of the title. I would either change the title or the thumbnail to add some more flavour about the episode or let the screenshot speak more of that itself. A character running around with bad graphics is not different from most thumbnails I've seen. It isn't inviting to me, as I did not expect to see or hear anything that is much different from the other bad mmos covered. And it would be more interesting to me, if there is a hint of what this one does differently bad or especially bad and hearing constructive things about these. So, either a hint of the entertaining/funny/joke value of the video (love your humour, but this one could have used more of it), or/and more information...al? value. But being from the less tea drinking and polite version of our shared Germanic root I can't complain about the complaining. I just need a hint it is more than that. Which I know you usually do, but.. YT is full and my list of videos already long. I hope that helps. You can keep that last missing main verb.

From the moment I stumbled upon your corner of the internet, I was captivated. In a world often plagued by superficiality and fleeting trends, your dedication to authenticity and substance is a beacon of hope, a reminder that genuine connections can be forged through shared interests and genuine discourse. Whether it's dissecting the nuances of a beloved video game or delving into the complexities of human nature, you possess an innate talent for fostering thought-provoking conversations that linger long after the screen fades to black. It's not just your knowledge or your charisma that draws me in, but rather, it's the sincerity with which you approach each topic, the humility with which you engage with your audience, and the unwavering passion that infuses every word you speak. You've become more than just a KZreadr to me; you're a mentor, a confidant, and a source of endless inspiration. The polite way to open a message is: Greetings, I know you're probably very busy so I appreciate you taking time to read my message. Body of text, keep it concise and to the point. Possibly positive items, negative items, positive items and praise. Sincerely, Name Acknowledge that you know it will take some time out of his Henry Cavil but from Wish work. About feedback: I am not sorry to disturb you -> also , I liked everything except what's to blame on KZread -> additionally which editor wouldn't find easy to work with a cowman boss honing a vest and pink fluffy hat ?? With that in mind Mr Greg 👌 Mr Streamer 👌 Mr Clipper 👌 Great episode

    I just usually post an initial message with something like "Hey, mind me asking you a question?" or something along those lines (depending on what I want). That way, if you don't read/answer I haven't wasted my time.

    My only feedback is I often listen to videos as falling asleep and it feels like the snippets of game clips where you stop talking is often 2x the volume of your narration parts and can be jarring

    I think you've toned down a lot on your "pedantics" which I always loved, I loved it all from the older videos. I think you could be a little more again. The pacing and editing did feel different but I don't think it was bad, it was kind of refreshing... I hope this helps as good feedback, love your videos (and yes, I put the nice comments after the actual feedback)

    There are three landmarks of narrative that work for virutally any writing or communication. 1. Tell them what you're going to tell them. 2. Tell them it. 3. Tell them what you've told them. Here's an example... "Hello Person, I'm reaching out to propose a potential collaberation. I think your skill at looking like Henry Caville would pair well with my boutique line of pink cowboy hats with with feather frills, and I would love to work together on this. If you like the idea of this proposal or have any ideas of other work you would like, please drop me a line any time" You can use this for everything, and it even nests. Writing a 100 page thesis? Thats your three global landmarks. Writing the intro of that thesis? That's the structure of your intro. Writing the meat of it? That's the structure. Guess what the conclusion is? Short, long, medium. Presentations, letters, scientific papers.... It all works. And look at that... Even this comment has the three landmarks, including nesting.

That or after my previous message here in the comments with my recommendation you have preemptively banned me from your discord in which case I commend your actionable speed however, I am disappointed and please expect a 42 page angry letter in the coming days.

    I don't know if you're going to see this, but: I don't even watch those videos anymore. They were entertaining for a long time, but they're not anymore. Normally, when I open one of those videos now, I lie down on my couch and fall asleep about 10 minutes in. The videos I personally love are: 'What is Pay to Win?', 'What Went Wrong with Gaming?', and my personal favorite (I've watched it 6 or 7 times), 'New World - Timeline of a Failure.' It's just the same formula over and over again, and to me, it has lost its charm. To be fair, maybe I am not the audience you are looking for.

    People who like direct, clear communication will laugh out loud to Jeannie Robertson's tale of sending her husband to the grocery store. The title is : "Never send a man to the grocery store". I'm leftbrained myself and found it hilarious.

    I do feel there was a bit of unmotivated motion edits. Zooming in/out for no real reason than to artificially generate energy into the video but ironically, it distracts from the voiceover which is the most energetic part of the video. It’s quite jarring. But I do feel the game was the biggest problem. Can’t be artificially energetic about something that saps all that energy away.
