    Super basic, but I’d be interested in your comparative thoughts on all 6 subs horizontal vs how you have them vertically now. Would the floor shake more, would your foundation actually crack? Bass is supposed to be less spatially connected but I assume you’d lose chest thump by switching it up. It’d be interesting observations for those of us with single drivers on the floor setups

    Beauties!👍 You should seriously consider getting into a processor with Dirac Live and then add the Bass Control license. It completely transformed the bass in my home theater. I upgraded to the HTP-1 from the AVM 70 and it was a game changer. ARC is decent room correction, but Dirac Live with Bass Control is on a whole other level.

  • @SpecOfTech

    @SpecOfTech

    I have been curious about Dirac TBH. I did give the XMC2 a try with Dirac, but I had a pretty unreliable and disappointing experience with it. Have you been experiencing any bugs with the HTP-1? How is the clarity and detail with the HTP-1 vs the AVM70? What does the bass management license cost for Dirac?

  • @brucecarter6205

    @brucecarter6205

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@SpecOfTech the HTP-1 has its quirks, as do most of the other 16 channel processors out there. Some have had issues with their units getting locked in a boot loop after power outages, but my unit has been flawless in that respect. It’s fully recoverable if it happens, but I guess it would be annoying to have to deal with. In terms of detail, clarity and channel separation, the HTP-1 reigns supreme for me over the AVM 70. I got my AVM 70 at launch and the current version of ARC Genesis at the time was giving me all sorts of issues. My bass was WAY over hot after running ARC and my channel levels were all over the map. I even tried my older style ARC mic to see if that would help and it did not. Hopefully, they’ve sorted out those issues by now. I had an AVM 60 that I adored, so I was really disappointed with where the AVM 70 and ARC Genesis was at launch. I’m so glad that I decided to give the HTP-1 and Dirac a shot. Even the vanilla Dirac Live gave me better results than I ever got with ARC, but the biggest game changer was when I added the Bass Control license. It was an eye opener for sure. Sometimes you just don’t know what you’re missing. Lol Some of the higher priced Dirac processors come with the BC license included, but with the HTP-1 it’s a pay for upgrade. I believe the single sub version is $349 US and the multi-sub version is $499 US.

    Hey Barrett,Great video mate!, Just thought you may also like to try manually time aligning the subs using the digital delay dials on the plate amps to get the smoothest pre-room EQ response. I have 3 x Seaton Submersives with the same style plate amp (though 2400w) and the delay dial works great, each dot is 2ms delay,so half way is 1ms. Using REW and these dials you should be able to get a nice flat response before running ARC. I did this and ended up selling my miniDSP 2x4HD. I have detailed this a few times on AVS forum. You should be able to find my measurements on there

  • @SpecOfTech

    @SpecOfTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks my friend, I appreciate that. I did take about 1.5 hrs to play with the time delays on the subs to improve my response. In the REW measurement section of the video, that is how I improved the response when showing just the 3 JTRs. It definitely still needs work, but it did help. As you know, its a very time consuming process haha, and the more subs you add it gets a little more difficult. If you can link your AVS post I would love to have a look at it. I am getting the AVM90, which is supposed to be able to align up to 4 subwoofers. But the update for ARC to enable that feature is supposed to be ready at the release of the AVM90, let's hope that happens lol. The way companies have been rolling out new devices lately doesn't instill much confidence.

  • @SpecOfTech

    This sub leans more towards home theater IMO, simply because of the extreme output capabilities. Not that it doesn't perform very well for music also, because it does. In most cases it will be overkill for music. Most music listeners listen at moderate to low levels, this sub can do subtle, but it would be a waste of its potential to only listen at low levels for music. It is a heavier, thick and quality bass. I rather like it for music. JTR is also known to provide very low distortion with their subwoofers also. I was actually quite surprised how delicate this subwoofer can be for music, while being absolutely violent for movies. If you want the most accurate agile bass look at Rythmik, if you want accurate bass that can provide a violence that most other subwoofers can't provide...get JTR. I hope that helps.

    Nice setup for sure. I decided to go with 2 stereo integrity carbon 24s. I did however run two 240v lines for amplifier. If the speaker power amp can run off 240v, it would be worth looking into. If Canadian code allows. You can wire 3 Electrical receptacle to a 40amp or 50 amp breaker. You can then buy the correct cord to go to the amp. Nema 14-50 etc

    I own JTRs. They're great subs. I think he's being kind on the build quality... while the cabinets are sturdy, but the edges are rough and the cutout for the amps I even got a splinter running my finger along that. The paintwork JTR used to use Line-X or similar and it was very nice, but the new paint is kinda just bad feeling and doesn't seem to be as durable. On the plus side it's less reflective. That said, RS1s and RS2s are the best "small" high output subwoofers available, and for most rooms they'll do everything needed and more.

    It really depends on what you prioritize most, and if you would be saving up to get a second subwoofer in the future. It is pretty much always better to get 2 subwoofers to help smooth out the response. if you get 1 uber powerful subwoofer with the intention of adding a second in the future, that is a great option as well. If your priority is pure massive output in the low end, get the CAP4000. If your goal is great low end performance with harder hitting "midbass", get the TV42. That is assuming you would add a second one in the future. If not, then I would go dual TV2112 or dual JTR CAP2400's..

    What is it exactly that you're looking for in your system? The reason I ask is I feel your searching for that live level of performance. After using sound reinforcement for years, I'm not satisfied with the performance of home audio. I've added a BBE sonicmaxamizer a 1/3 octave equalizer and a high power amplifier for my mains. I want to hear the music/vocals the way they were ment to be heard. The clash of a symbol the movement of the guitar players hands across the cords and I've always been a bass head even before it was a thing. The rear deck in my car at times looked as if it was Launching into space. Oh the looks I got back then. Now you hear it everywhere. I love to experiment with processors like BBE DBX EXPANDERS/COMPRESSORS ANYTHING that brings the signal to life. Everyone has different hearing profiles so why not fill your speakers with the sound that that appeals to your ears

The recent Paradigm Founder 120H speaker purchase gave me some phenomenal sound in an absolutely beautiful package that has great support from a great company. All that said, I do love to try new gear. I think I sometimes upgrade just to try something new, I find it fun to experience different gear. The CAP2400's do get close in output on the low end, but the overall feel and bass violence was noticeably more from the RS2's. If I had the choice between the 2 again, I would go with the RS2's over the CAP2400's. IMO, the only reason to go with the CAP2400's is to save the $$. I hope that helps.

    For several reasons, one of which the equipment is usually much closer to the mic, the further sound travels the quieter it gets. I take my measurements at my main listening position in a larger room. Another reason is that DC draws more amps. Lastly the area the sound pressure level needs to fill is much smaller in a car than in a house. I am by no means an expert in that area, but that is how I understand it.

    LFE Signal goes up to 120hz, how is their performance at such level? Subwoofers tuned down do these frequencies take a big hit on sound quality just one or two octaves higher then their tuning. Havent listened to them but iam VERY worried these subs are not really all that good all around. Those low hz that JTR wants to hit will take their toll. Luckily building good Subwoofers DIY is an option for pretty much everyone. Listened to plenty of SVS subs and similar competition. They all very extremly horrible up to now. For my home theatre i go with a 2 stage subwoofer design. Taking high quality 10" drivers for 40-120hz and for 20-40hz ( the mentioned lowest octave ) specially tuned 15" drivers made for LOW frequencies. When i let my 15" play full range my sound is horrible. they have incredible output and performance in the range i use them but fall apart at even 60hz. All the testing and designing subwoofers made me pessimistic that something lika a JTR can be great because all my expierience was the total opposite. that being said. maybe JTR knows something i dont. If someone in Germany does have JTR subs and is willing to give me a demo, please let me know. Appreciate it.

    If you want detailed measurements including distortion etc, go to Data-bass.com, click on "Systems", then look for the JTR S2, click on that. It gives quite the detailed analysis. Keep in mind that Jeff at JTR has made adjustments and updated the drivers since those measurements to further reduce the distortion levels and clean things up. You are right, it is tough to keep distortion down in the lower frequencies, good good multi sub setup with different frequency crossovers is a good way to try and mitigate some distortions.

    How would you compare it with your SVS subs?

  • @SpecOfTech

    @SpecOfTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    Haha, well that isn't entirely a fair comparison because the SVS are less money and aren't built for solely performance. The SVS PB16 has the most output of all their subs, and it just plain and simple cannot compete with one of these subs. It is still bound by the same rules of science and physics, it has a single driver, that driver is smaller in cone area and the amplifier is less than half the RMS power of the JTR. The PB16 frequency response falls off a cliff around 15hz, where as the JTR has a flat response down to about 7hz. The JTR having more power and dual 18" drivers providing much more cone area will have more output across the entire frequency range, even though it is sealed and the PB16 is ported. That being said, I do love SVS subwoofers, I am not trying to put them down, only giving the facts. The PB16 is one of the nicest looking subwoofers on the market...period. It also has built in customizable DSP with an app, which is really handy. When it comes to performance though, the PB16 is several leagues below the JTR RS2. If we were to compare the PB16 (ported) to the JTR CAP4000 (ported), the gap widens even further regarding performance.

  • @htenthusiast2897

Can’t imagine these 3 beasts in your room that’s smaller than mine and was curious as to why two PB16s weren’t enough and how you can keep the JTRs nicely composed and from blowing a window at your house or making some other damage.

    @@htenthusiast2897 Those HSU subs are amazing performers, HSU has some magic sauce for sure haha. I am not sure how big your room is, but my room is 25' long, 17' wide with 8' ceilings. The real kicker though, is that my home is a 4 level split design, and the theater room is open to 2 other levels. It is the back of the room that is open, so my sound just escapes out the back, I am essentially pressurizing my house. In a dedicated enclosed room, these subwoofers would destroy the room haha. My room also has carpeted concrete floors, and half the height of the walls is concrete as well.

  • @SpecOfTech

    @SpecOfTech

    @@htenthusiast2897 Those JTR drivers can really get moving. For the scene where they are moving the most, I only had the 1 subwoofer powered on. I wouldn't dare do that with all 3 with the current state of my electrical haha. For me personally, the only difference I experienced for ported vs sealed is the ported has more output when all else is equal. The sound quality doesn't change IMO, again, assuming all else is equal with drivers and power etc. The main benefit for me going to sealed is the size of the boxes while still maintaining some pretty extreme output. I was tired of moving that massive Funk LFE24 Ultra around. With it being so big I was really limited on placement as well, because of its size it could even change the room acoustics around it.

  • @SpecOfTech

    @SpecOfTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    These subwoofers provide good quality bass for music. I did touch on this in the video, maybe I should have covered it in more detail, but the video was getting pretty long as is. Given their intimidating appearance it is easy to assume they are more for HT, but I don't find that to be the case. They blend extremely well with my mains for music, they would only be over powering if not setup correctly. I find them to disappear into the music, and blend very well with the towers. They are accurate, fast and incredibly impactful for music. There is a common misconception out there that large drivers subwoofers aren't good for music, but that is truly a myth. In fact, I can argue that a large driver subwoofer is better for music. They have so much more cone area, to produce the SPL's needed for music they barely need to move at all. When using a driver like a 10" or 12" and their are some dynamic bass notes in a song at louder volumes, they need almost their entire excursion to reach those dynamics. Where is most distortion found in subwoofer? At their excursion and power handling limits. Whereas these dual 18" subwoofers literally aren't even moving to hit those SPL's, making it super clean and responsive.

A rattling fireplace has no place reminding you of it’s existence if you’re watching a scene on spaceship in a sci-fi movie. It’s the equivalent of having a faulty driver, it would drive me up the wall. Don’t get me wrong, I love deep and dynamic bass, but it has to be pure and without distortion. Room resonance and interference is distortion in my book. But each to their own.

    @@007LoveGun It's all subjective, you nailed it when you said each to their own. There are very few "right" answers when it comes to something as subjective as audio. Thanks for watching.

    I can personally vouch for these subs tripping the breaker because I was there when it happened. Fortunately the whole thing was caught on video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6KLrdlxntS3nKw.html

    Pointless to have so many subs in a small space like that.

    Wow, you must have some talent to be able to know the size of a room without knowing the size of a room 😉. What size do you surmise the room is?

    @@tweedpenguin712 I can understand why someone sees this as excessive... it is, but that's what it takes. The physics of low freqs and subwoofers dictate to achieve the same output SPL, each octave downward requires a 𝙌𝙐𝘼𝘿𝙍𝙐𝙋𝙇𝙄𝙉𝙂 of stroke capability. That adds up fast when seeking playback of the lowest octaves.

    *WoW 4,000 watts RMS, so they need a special power point wired in as a standard socket can't deliver 4,000 watts plus thermal losses of the amp.*

    *Damn,,,,I think just 1 of those subs would easily do most people's requirements, certainly would be more than enough for me.*
