I MOVED TO AUSTRALIA: American Moves to Australia in 2022

A little about me - I just moved to Tasmania, Australia to finish my masters in Marine & Antarctic science. I did the best I could last year virtually and am so happy to finally be allowed into Australia. My degree is a super niche degree and here has such great opportunities, that it was worth me moving across the world for! Join me on my journey.

You seem to like a bit of coffee. As a West Aussie I know I'm gonna cop flak for this but here goes. The best coffee anywhere in the world is either Melbourne or Perth. We, Aussies, make our coffee the way Greeks and Italians did 60+years ago , but we use the finest coffee beans available worldwide. We also export our coffee beans world wide as its in high demand in the production of high quality coffee. In Oz Starbucks is for teenage girls, tourists and people who don't like coffee.

I must say though LA airport need to train their staff in manners (worst Airport reception I have ever had sorry, and I have been frisked in front of 50 army guys with AKs in Korea and that was more polite). There is nothing quite like having got off a flight from travel that has gone on for about 20 hrs (from Perth, Australia), to wait in a line in LA airport for one hour or more, then to get yelled at by a crazy guard after walking through a metal detector when you were doing exactly as you are told in a sleep deprived state.

So my husband is trying to move us all to Australia to get away from all of the gun violence. I decided to look on YT for other Americans who have moved. Coincidentally, I’m also in NJ. I cannot imagine moving that far away from everyone we know. Do you love it?

I have similar thoughts of moving there. Australia seems like a much more safer country with rarely any record of gun violence since their government had confiscated most of the guns. One of my friends live there and he showed me a livestream showing the beautiful shops, cafes, restaurants. And walking outside on the streets seem generally safer too.

super unique program that’s only here. also in scientific research you follow the institutions that have the funding for research students and also you follow the programs that are doing research in the areas you’re interested in - so for me, easy choice. no where in the US is doing the research they are in Tasmania nor has the funding to do so
