American Moves to Tasmania, Australia Alone: first weekend exploring Hobart + Salamanca Market

Фильм және анимация

A little about me - I just moved to Tasmania, Australia to finish my masters in Marine & Antarctic science. I did the best I could last year virtually and am so happy to finally be allowed into Australia. My degree is a super niche degree and here has such great opportunities, that it was worth me moving across the world for! Join me on my journey.

You will love Australia. I came here on my own in 1977 met an Aussie guy and never left. Now a grandmother to 3 beautiful boys. Enjoy the adventure. It can be scary with no family at first.

If you visit Huonville, there is a lovely cafe called, Mudroom. My cousin, Dale and his wife, Gemma own it. They are always up for a good chat. Also, some nice places to drive to and explore around there too. So many beautiful spots to visit, you will fall in love with it :)

Perfect start to a video! First time watcher from Sydney. Love your coffee selection. Australians might have decades of espresso experience, but more Aussies need to branch out and fall in love with pour overs and all things black where care and time are needed. Yes time to bloom. Love the Japanese style drip coffee bags. Best travel companion ever!!!

@@coffeeenut Hi there Ashleigh, Glad you have decided to move here in Australia. I live in Devonport on the North-West coast only about 3.5 maybe 4 hours drive from where you are in Hobart. The nick name for our state Tasmania is the Apple Isle because we had a lot of Apple orchards back in the day now there are a only a few left. I hope you enjoy your stay here and please keep putting more vlogs as I find them very interesting....:>)...PS In all your vlogs I've noticed on your back wall of the place you're staying is a picture of Cradle Mountain with lake Dove in the foreground. When you've got time maybe you'll like to take a trip up to The Cradle Mountain National park?

Not sure if you know this but those scooters have helmets because you can get fined if youre not wearing one (same for a bicycle). If you get a bicycle make sure you get a helmet too. Usually the police will just give you a warning but you never know- they might bust you for it if theyve had a bad day. Also, if youre on a scooter or a bicycle that counts as a vehicle under road rules, so you can lose your driver's licence for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) if youre busted drunk bicycle riding (Im not making that up). I thought Id let you know this because you seemed a bit surprised to see those helmets with the scooters.

You must visit the OTHER great museum in Hobart - TMAG (Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery) - right on the waterfront in the heart of the city. It's a little gem of a place, filled with quirky and interesting exhibits, including a gallery dedicated to the marsupial Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine). Good bookshop and coffee shop too.

Australian wine is delicious and Tassie wine is superb. Colder the better in the Northern states where is is hotter than Hobart. The whole of Tassie is amazing. So much to explore.❤
