I remember being in grade 9 when 2018 rewind released, and then after watching it with like 5 of my friends, we all went. " Well... that was trash..." And then at the count of three we all pressed dislike to live up to the tradition. I do genuinely miss rewind, though.

James' words at the end were true, KZread became a corporate business like Hollywood and would only promote what would give profit, rather than promoting creativity like it originally did when it was still a community of ideas. Also, James IRL is rocking the mustache+stubble. Even his animations and humour are so comforting to watch.

I feel like we should get rewinds, but they should be community made. Like, every year each subdivision of the platform, like gaming, animation, food, challenges, etc, they should get together to make a rewind for the previous year. That way we can sort of get quality control, while still having the rewinds representing the community.

No one is stopping anyone from making their own rewinds if they want to. There are two reasons why rewinds stopped and probably wouldnt work as well if they got brought back. 1) all of you man critically panned the Rewinds in the first place which is why they stopped happening. Now youtube got rid of them, youre mad that they stopped. 2) internet culture has stopped being as ubiquitous as it was in 2017. In that era, there were memes and landmark events that had everyone's attention online. Nowadays, the only things that keep everyone's attention are actual world events or news about which creator has been exposed as a r*pist/p*dophile/s*xual harrasser etc. There is nothing that is both benign enough and noteworthy enough to even put in a Rewind.

I completely agree. Good or bad, the KZread Rewinds were a time where everyone came together as a community to watch their favorite KZreadrs in one massive collab, and it was just the best feeling when you would ask someone "Hey, did you watch the latest KZread rewind?" and obviously they would respond with yes, and then you'd talk about all the things you saw and which KZreadrs you knew from it and which parts you liked or didn't like. I miss them too.

I consume KZread Videos like a lot! But I've never seen a complete Rewind, maybe I did watch a few minutes of the one with colbert, but I genuinely don't care about them or most people in them(I assume), so why bother, but happy that people enjoyed them. And then even I got exposed to the debates and reactions of KZread Rewinds especially the last one. Really can't under-estimate the impact of those, essentially corporate propaganda PSAs, and the peoples reaction to it, for many I was probably one of the few ways they could actually express thier dissatisfaction with the path KZread is/has taken. But as we see actual Feedback(Good AND Bad) is not something KZread wants 👎

The swap between nub hands and fully articulated 5 fingered hands is astonishing to me because James still has his style consistently but then shows off his skill with a full set of 5 fingers

Was actually binging the rewinds last week and quite honestly i almost got emotional in almost all of them before 2015. Besides 2011, all of them bring back such good memories from a, bassically, bygone era considering how quickly trends have come and go for the past yeard. Just having them to exist is something great considering how much they actually bring back and how soetimes you can give yourself the benefit of reliving those days that wont come back, but hold something special for each one of the ones that participated

In the spanish community, we have never been really acknowledge by KZread, since it almost only cared about English creators, but ever since the 2018 rewind came out, an incredible spanish KZreadr called Alec Molon made his own rewind full of KZread Spanish community things with very little budget, but ever since spanish community noticed this, he made one evey year with a lot of donations as budget and due to he's a normal KZreadr and not a KZread official worker, he has a lot of freedom to work as he put memes and references everywhere and the effects amd visuals are just incredible. Even if you don't understand Spanish i recommend you to watch some of his rewinds, he included a lot of world popular things like Among us in 2020 or the attack to the area 51, it'll be worth it.

Sure, as long as KZread themselves don’t have creative control over it, which is unlikely.

I think I mainly just miss the comprehensive yearly trend/meme/music recap. As you get older you sort of forget what was going on at the start of a year, lose track of trends, and sometimes even what happened in what year. KZread rewind did a lot for that.

I think for 2018 Rewind maybe KZread just wanted to show itself as a family-friendly platform so they skipped over the drama and the controversy but that makes KZread well... KZread so Rewind 2018 was less of a fun video and more like a PG-rated trailer for KZread as a service

Yeah in hindsight he was talking about when KZread screwed up Rewind 2018. I still remember that dreadful day and it just made creators question themselves a lot. Which may explain why Modern KZread hasn't really captured the same charm as it once did. The animators should do their own rewind. Animate small segments of what happened that year. Each person picks a subject and just rolls with it. Honestly would to see anything yall work on as a group. ❤

I don’t know if I’m just getting old but I been watching James for 9 years now ( like when he first started ) I was watching this video and 9:28 when James popped out and actually had a face and stuff me and my boyfriend freaked out. I will never be use to seeing James’s face. Also thanks James for being a very important part of my teenage years I started watching you when I was 10 and now I’m 19. You been a very important part of my life because you made me start to get into art and I’m still drawing to this day

In the hispanic community we have been making our own rewinds since 2018, they are made by the community of yutubers itself, and despite the 2023 rewind being a little bit underwhelming, they usualy have a bigger quality and are more in touch with the public.

I think the KZread Rewinds of 2012 through 2015 perfectly captured how KZread was its own thing, it's own talent pool separate from traditional media, and its own community like you said it felt like. Defo really miss that aspect to it.

I remember people complaining after 2017's rewind, especially the UK KZread community bc those slime fights took a whole day to film in the freezing cold, everyone got stained by the slime and so many KZreadrs barely even got screentime. I still agree with the suggestion Emma Blackery made after 2017 Rewind aired. Make regional rewinds! Make a Rewind US, make a Rewind UK, make a Rewind Europe, etc. It would give people airtime and not make anyone feel less important

It's cool to hear your experience with it. I remember only liking the animators in the 2018 rewind and hating everything else. I don't want them back, I don't really care for hate watching stuff even tho I understand you wanting the community to come together again. I just hated youtube rewinds because KZread is extremely out of touch with its own users and it really shines through with the rewinds.

It truly is a humorous piece of irony that animators worked hard to get on board with the KZread rewind and the audience's take was to rip it to shreds it is funny looking at the animator's take on the audience's take to it

Anyone not familiar and didn’t know better would have thought that they would’ve been paid *well* for that animation (💰, swanky high-rise glass hotel rooms, sizable authority over the final video is *obviously* a given, and fancy outings like yacht parties and golf, with catering all throughout (fancy food with fancy waters and alcohols provided), with party prizes like iPads and laptops, with a small solid golden play button at the end as a gift, like they were *IN* with the KZread Executives), which I’m *certain* encapsulates a lot of people, and way more than you’d think. (Cause I feel a DEEP urge to believe that too, even though I know that’s not the case) I mean, he was working with KZread, one of the largest video and entertainment companies in the world! *OF COURSE HE GETS ALL THAT!!!* (I don’t remember where I got this concept of “naiveness” from, but yeah, another version of me would STRONGLY believe exactly this if they didn’t know better) Yeah, I’m gonna make this a stand-alone comment, and if TheOdd1sOut sees it, I’m sure that he’d react well to it.
