Amethyst is my favorite gemstone. So a fun fact about them: There are a huge number of variants ranging from basically quarts to light purple to very deep purple, and it depends on where they are mined. For example amethyst from here in Finland are commonly white to light purple, while onces in say Brazil are often deep purple in color.

The reason amethyst crystals are found in quartz deposits is because amethyst is quartz but a certain metal (I forgot the name) had oxidized close to it and basically dyed it on a molecular level.

Amethyst is more expensive the sharper the point and the deeper the purple color. I’m not a professional so I can’t give an estimate on the one you found but typically amethyst is in a pyramid shape. You want to find one with a very sharp or defined pyramid and a deep purple almost black in color.

If those are 12 bucks, I can find a rock outside that is worth 100

Tip: dont search near volcanoes as they have small crystals
