Hey Amy! I usually don't comment and just have watched your videos but I thought I'd give my experiences. Have you ever got bloodwork done when you're having bouts of depression? I went through an immense wave of anxiety(I suffer from GAD and panic disorder) and also depression(more on side of anxious depression) and it was always worse in the winter months. Come to find out, I was severely deficient in Vitamin D and this caused my seasonal affective disorder. I now take vitamin D every winter and also take a lower dose during the summer. I would consider talking to a doctor of course but there are so many scientific case studies linked to seasonal depression and wintertime/lack of sun. Also, I recently had a big anxious wave this past month and started taking vitamin D again- it's like I forgot haha!- and also started taking Chaste berry, fish oil and probiotics. Probiotics I think have made the biggest difference for me so far and there are studies that correlate your gut microbiome to anxiety and depression outside of vitamin D. I read that 90% of serotonin is produced in the gut and ever since reading this, I just couldn't take an SSRI. All SSRI's do is block the reuptake of serotonin, not produce more of it. I've tried SSRI's and they just make me feel like a robot. That's just my opinion though and please talk to your doctor because I'm just a random commentor sharing my experiences haha. Since doing the supplement route for the past 30 days and also increasing my activity(I do strength traing, weight lifting 3 to 4 days a week and walk 5 to 7 days a week for 20 to 30 minutes), I've went from a few days of the week feeling 'okay' to 4+ days of the week feeling GREAT and loving my life again. The other 2 or 3 days a week I feel meh, but I think that's normal in life, haha. I still have sad/bad days, but they aren't as bad as before the supplements. I'm only a month in though so it may change. Everyone is different though, some people meds work for so don't let this one comment change your health journey!

I was on it for about 4 years, put on much weight and lost a certain aspect of my empathy/feelings/drive… I tapered off in spring of 2021, and promptly lapsed into the worst depression which lasted for about two years. I miss some aspects of being on SSRI, but I don’t think I could ever go through that again

that's exactly how i feel too :( coming off of them put me in the worst depression too and i still haven't come out of it. hoping to try therapy as another alternative treatment soon

Might be worth trying to incorporate a daily meditation practice into your life. I also know there are a tonne of non-prescription supplements which are great for improving mood (l-theanine, saffron, rhodiola rosea, korean red ginseng, etc)

i appreciate this so much! i am going to look into those supplements :) i was meditating daily but my visualizations were making me more depressed bc i wasn't where i wanted to be. maybe i need to mediate without visualization though!

It's frustrating. The first time I used them it was a watershed, life changing moment. But ever since it's just a rollercoaster.
