    Retired now, but I taught in college for over 40 years, and for decades was adjunct at 2 different colleges. If I had a 20 min drive, I would leave at least an hour and 20 min ahead, and that is a minimum. Usually I would leave way before that, just to get there, prep and drink a cup of coffee. Must account for emergencies, parking, traffic accidents and jams, bad weather, having to stop for gas, prepping for class at last minute, etc. Rushing around is too too stressful and bound to catch up with you.

    Girl. Doctor’s aren’t running late because they were physically late. They run late because sometimes they need to spend longer with a particular patient, or the patient is late, and it all backs up over time. I’m glad you aren’t in major trouble but we all saw this coming 😂

    Doctors don’t even try to be efficient and on time. They do overbook. If they know they’re running late, they won’t let people know. . One woman showed up for a morning appointment with an Obgyn. The staff folder after she got there, the doc won’t be in. Her husband took time off to stay with the kids. Another person waited hours, only to be told it was too late and she’d have to go home and come back…and she was charged a copay for the say she spent waiting. More horror stories. They spend so much time on screening healthy people where you might need to screen 400 to prevent one death. So when you get sick and really need help, they’re too busy. Bottom line, they don’t care about people. It’s just money. Some doctors make a commitment to be on time and they keep it. So why can’t everybody?

  • @gerhardorlet1560

    @gerhardorlet1560

    Depends on the doc. OBGYNs and certain surgical specialties are frequently late due to emergencies that force them into the OR. If they have a good staff, the chaos and inconvenience gets managed fairly well. It’s true doctors overbook. In fact, anyone who makes a living that relies upon customers coming to them will overbook, for sure. I visited customers and would overbook those appointments as well. You want to use your work time as efficiently as possible. Then, there’s the group of physicians that are simply poor time managers. I love it when the nurse at my neurologist’s office says, “the doctor will be with you shortly.” Translation: go ahead and order your next meal from Uber Eats. You have time to eat AND take a nap before he comes in. There’s literally NO EXCUSE for time management this poor. The doc is great, but I know the rest of the day is shot when I have that appointment.

I full well know how strict the airline industry is on someone checking in for a flight late, it is extremely stressful! We had no grace period for late checkins, like you guys have a 5 min window. If we are just 1 min late checking for our scheduled shift, we are officially considered as reporting being late for work! I feel your pain, girl! Look forward to all of your posts on Sundays. When I was in the Army I overslept by a lot. Like 2 hours. I completely missed formation and duty roster..I went into the 1st Sargents office and faked an illness and they took me to the hospital. 😆😆😆 I couldn't just say I overslept. At the hospital they couldn't find anything wrong obviously so said it must be a virus. Yep, must be. Not my proudest moment but I panicked.

    Stella, in my profession on time is late. I know you're probably still used to hopping on the subway in NYC with minimal traffic, but you've gotta give yourself more time, especially since you live in the DC area now which is notoriously congested. It's better to be early and relaxed than late and panicked.

    Oof. I've missed my sign in a few times. I'm ORD based, and depending on the day, time, traffic, and whether or not I drive or take public transportation that day, it can take me anywhere between 25 minutes to as much as an hour to get from my house to airport property. And then add 30 minutes to get to from the employee parking lot or the train station to the crew room. So no matter what now, I always make sure I am out the door at least 90 minutes before report. If I get there early then I've got time to get coffee and relax before I start my trip.

When the weather was horrendous, I'd leave the house even earlier. In 30 years, I was never late. I would rather be an hour early than a minute late. Of course I don't travel as extensively as FAs do though. But in general I keep half an hour to 45 min additional time buffer for exigencies like this. Yes its boring but its a vital role for passengers and everyone involved. I once missed a connection after a 12 hour flight because a passenger had checked baggage then didn't show. For everyone's safety, the baggage has to come off of the plane, which can take 20 minutes. I literally ran to my replacement flight and was the last to board, while puffing and carrying duty free liquor in shopping bags, lol. It was a redeye mostly business flight. It was 7:40...enough time right?! Nope. I live in a rural area so to turn around and find another route takes time. But I had no choice, I had to do it. It was 8:20 when I pulled into the school. Students saw me running for the door with all of my 'gear' they opened the doors for me and they screamed 'Code Moses!' aka 'make a hole!" and a path cleared so I could run to my classroom. Fortunately, Pre-K was running a little late due to an untied shoelace meltdown. HAHA! Also would love to know what you use to season your chicken with. That looked YUMMY!

Being late once taught me to take an extra 15-20 minutes on my 8 km trip to work. It's actually very relaxing to be well on time. You have time to get coffee, maybe put on your makeup or fix your hair, talk to random people and just take it easy. Surprise traffic jam is a nightmare though! Hope things go smoother for you in the future and you manage to take enough time to get to the airport.

    Yep, teachers. I taught high school social studies and the LAST thing you want to happen is to have 30 14 year-olds sitting in an unsupervised classroom - even a SECOND is long enough for something unfortunate to happen. That’s why I was always one of the first people at school, at least an hour ahead of time. I was terrified of that scenario and then forcing a colleague to cover, as well. There’s just nothing good about NOT being where you’re supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there. If you’re early, though, you can drink your coffee in peace, prep, catch up on news, whatever. It’s all upside. BTW, started watching Kelsey’s channel and that’s how I found you. Seriously, the two of you should write a book together or at least collaborate more. a few years ago, Mrs Ken was going to be flying to visit her mother in the afternoon. so I told her what time she needed to meet me on the end of town I would be getting off work at, so I didn't have to leave work an extra hour early to drive home and back. (3 hours ahead of when she needed to check in with what was, at the time a show up an hour before departure guidance, on a trip that took 2 hours with absolute best traffic possible. she got there a half hour after I told her. en route, (now 1/2 hour ahead of the absolute best case trip) we got to the first route option, and she demanded I not take my choice as a least time route. we got to the second route option about 15 minutes ahead of the best case trip, and she demanded I take the third option instead of my second and third choice for least-time routes - which also committed us to her route. this put us in heavy traffic for the rest of her route. finally, RIGHT AT the recommended check in time, we got to the airport exit, (Exit 3: airport) and she told me, "that's not the exit" so I just blew by without getting in line. then she FINALLY let me hit start on the satnag, and it routed us the remaining best time option to get to the airport - and by my calculation, we were able to watch her plane take off as we drove into the drop off lane. three and a half hours after the time we actually met for me to take her to the airport. ever since, she has condescended to allow me to use satnag to route the drive.

    Yes I think they take that approach in training to help the students form good habits for when they are in the workplace. A lot of vocational training courses are like that. I think that also they want to weed out the people who are probably not well suited to the job but think they can do it. Better to find it out early on and try something else.

I have to arrive, get through security and either get on one or the airfield vehicles to catch a ride to the building where I’m based, or walk. Once there, I have to be ready to go out to an aircraft being prepared between flights. If I’m late, then the ground crew I’m working with that day is one person down, which means they have to work harder to get the aircraft ready to go before they miss their slot or it can miss the slot and be delayed while waiting for the next slot to be assigned depending upon the exact factors that day. Either way the result is not good.
