I Make an Industrial Style Wall Coat Hooks using Large Nails and Rebar - MIG Welding Project

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I Make an Industrial Style Wall Coat Hook using Large Nails and Rebar, a Wall Mount Coat hanger with three hooks, using old nails and the steel rebar rod which gives it the real industrial decor look I like. It was a good welding project for me I enjoyed it.
The big steel flat bar is 3mm thick, and 42mm wide. The small steel flat bar is 6mm thick, and 32mm wide.
The Rebar is 7mm rebar.
The main tools used were welding Magnets V-Pads, an MIG Welder, Angle Grinder, Alpha Steel Files, and a Drill.
Always use all the correct safety gear, and use your tools safely, I am not a good role model for this.

    Those are probably sleeper nails, hammered into wooden railway sleepers to mark the year of installation - in this case probably 1903. Gavin: Great work, I'm impressed as always.

    Hi Mike we used those type 3inch nails and longer ones in the timber stopes when I was working underground in the mines, I have never seen numbers on them before, and my first thought was if a short nail was used on the job you would be able to tell that it was not a full length nail just by looking at the head, used long handle 7lb strikers to drive them in to the hardwood, I think the 3 would be quite flat once it was in. I do like Georg's comment below, he is probably right.

If its just a hook/shelf bracket it is not quite as important, just pump them out. I think it is a good habit to have, thank you for your comment.

    I tried to make something very similar to this but with railroad spikes as the hooks. But when I welded to two pieces of flat bar together the same way you did with the holes in the back the two pieces warped real bad in the middle. I think the back plate on mine needed to be thicker

  • @GavinClarkdiy

    @GavinClarkdiy

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes if it was thicker it would help, tack it first and check it is all good and straight, before welting it up. I wish you the best for your project.

    I often use Penetrol Rust Treatment Penetrates Rust 300g Aerosol Spray, and then put two topcoats of Semi-Gloss Clear Coat. That is what I used on the rebar lettering on the back of my workbench, here is the link to that video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fHVh2c1vYr3NmM4.html I try not to comment on finishes, As what climate you are in, is it inside-outside, lots of rain, ice, do you want long term and rarely touch, or a wax with a wipe over every year. That is why I have no opinion, Please ask someone in your area what you should use, I feel this is a better way to find out what would be best for you. Thank you for your comment.

    @@GavinClarkdiy Thank you, the principle is clear. Rust converter, then airtight coating or varnish 2 layers.
