I MADE WOODEN WHEELS FOR MY MOUNTAIN BIKE - WILL THEY LAST?
Спорт
I made wooden wheels for my mountain bike - Will they last? Today I push the limits of these crazy MTB wheels made of wood to see which tricks, trails and jumps they can survive on, but will they actually work?
I've wanted to ride with wooden wheels for ages now and just couldn't think of a way to fit them to my bike, so I done a quick search and saw that Olabmx channel had done a similar video on his BMX and that gave me knowledge of how to fix the wood to my bike! So I rushed out, got some 18mm ply and began making my own back wheel, after a quick bike maintenance session we had some wooden wheels connected to my bike and it was time to get out and try it! First stop were the local trails to see if the wheels actually worked before slowly moving around to different locations. I rode a pump track an urban MTB freeride spot and then the final banger was to hit a huge jump at Phoenix bike park and pull off an unthinkable trick! But how long can these wheels really last?
I hope you enjoy the video!

Imagine being at your local pump track and seeing Sam show up, you're thinking it's going to be the most epic day getting a chance to ride with a legend, and then he pulls out a wooden wheeled bike. And suddenly you realize your day just got even MORE epic. This video is hilarious. I needed this today.
I remember doing this when I was 10 which was 40 years ago. I did it with 20" wheels and jumped a 6 foot ramp on a very hard packed gravel road and the landing was extremely jarring on the wrists. I drove on those wooden wheels for 2 days before they finally fell completely apart, lol. Getting them wet is what sped up the process.
Out of the right wood and depending on the terrain they could last a lot longer than you think ,think about all the things that at one time had wooden wheels.

Honestly took me like 3 years to drop in a 4ft quarter pipe, now i can flip, 360... ride my bike backwards and no handed wheelie, start wheelies with one hand etc... i remember the days i couldn't even loft the front wheel properly (yes i mean to say loft, look it up haha) and i would literally dream about wheelying jumping etc it will happen before you know it, you gotta just stick at it ! Excellent you nutter! Once when I was too skint to buy a new front wheel I bolted a bit if 2x4 into the front forks with an inline skate wheel attached with a couple of aluminium plates. It rode so well that I cycled it from Brighton to London. Never had tricks skills like you displayed there even on a proper bike. Excellent, really made me smile.
You've successfully reinvented the wooden wheel! You absolutely bossed it!
This is my all time favorite Sam pilgrim video ever. Wooden wheel mtb races seem like a very good idea.

Sam you're really helping cure my anxiety by just being so charming and funny. I started mountainbiking this summer for the first time since I was a kid because I needed a new sport and found your channel by chance in the process. I'm absolutely ADDICTED to the channel now and watching this, the weirdest shit, and enjoying it so much. Always looking forward to seeing your new vids man :D
the slow rolling is from how hard the Tyre(wood) is. You can see in your footage everytime it hits something its deflecting, ie slowing you down. On super smooth stuff itll feel fast(once actually up to speed) but on anything else itll slow you.
This might be my favorite video of yours of all time. It just kept escalating and thus getting more awesome. Great job dude!
This made me smile from ear to ear. You can’t ask for more than that.

Yes Pilgs. Im gonna enjoy this so hard.
The wooden wheels were definitely a cool experiment. They give off the appearance as if the bike is floating in the air after it takes off on the jumps. I was waiting for them to crack or even break because I wasn't sure how well plywood would hold up while being exposed to that kind of stress. I was thinking they would give out sooner or later, but it surprised me on how well they held up. Overall, great video. It gave me something fun to watch as I wind down from my day at work.
