NOT CLICKBAIT - How I Almost Died

Trip in Chile Goes Wrong - I took a trip to Colina, Chile to visit the world-famous Termas Valle de Colina Hot Springs. Unfortunately, our transport broke down on the way to the hot springs, leaving us stranded in the snow for several hours without any help or communication. This is the story of how we survived.

I am Chilean, from a city known for its ski resorts and I can see that the tour company sucks, you should report them to the authorities, they were extremely negligent, that is not the experience we are looking to give tourists.

I liked ACE's attitude towards the mishaps. Because he remained positive but transparent throughout the entire video hopefully the company will be able to improve its services. Instead of reporting the experience to "the authorities" the video serves as a report to the company and perspective clients. Thank God the group made it back safely. We live better lives when we help one another to learn from our mistakes rather than place blame and look to authorities to reprimand and punish. I trust that the company will do better because they realize the depth of their responsibilities.

@@rorrovi98 As I watched the video, one thing that lingered in the back of my mind was that there would be a good ending because the heroes of a good adventure don't usually die in the end. ACE was able to edit the raw footage into a masterpiece that is instructive as well as entertaining. And another thing I'll say about ACE is that I don't think that ACE is the type of guy who is out to place blame; his nature is cool and positive. So, the group's experience played out to be a great narrative with lessons learned. The video is meaningful and endearing. Through ACE's interactions and discourse with the driver, I sensed that the company is legitimate, earnestly trying to do their best, and growing. I didn't find the driver, nor the crew on the road negligent as much as I found them unaware of particular dangers. I have the sense that the company will improve their service. At the least, I hope the company will invest in communication devices that don't require the use of a network to provide for each group of tourist. At length, I pray that everyone in the group recovers mentally, physically, and emotionally. And again, my appreciation to ACE. I enjoy his work.

It is unacceptable the irresponsibility with which the agency acted: from the poor quality of the equipment to the lack of information to the tourists, who did not know what to do in the face of adversity and added to the wrong and risky decisions made by those in charge of the tour, which put the physical integrity of the tourists at risk, leaving them alone to their fate. With your title, I thought there was a truck slide in the slushy mud or something, but I had no idea that there was reckless abandoning going on. The wheel broke, and the driver didn't have the good sense to tell you to stay there or no idea of the distance from that point forward.

Since my father was instructor of the mountain troops (avalanche-prevention) and also worked for the copper mines in the mountains, I`ve been so many times in thermal baths along the Andes... it is such a nice experience, especially when there is a lot of snow, so I guess you got an idea now about how such experience can be. BUT I think your tour operator is not a good one, since you simply CAN NOT loose a wheel just like you did! the bolts were for sure loose and the driver did not get a hint about maintenance, besides he was driving too fast without the proper snow-chains over the wheels, thus you could easily slid off the road... AND for sure they should not let you stranded for so long without giving you any informations! Ace, I think you are not wearing the proper clothing and shoes (no joke), if anything happens and you should be outside when the night sets in, you would freeze, and you should always also carry something to eat and drink, even if something "would be provided"... I am quite experienced and have crossed the Andes on foot during the winter more than once, but with the proper knowledge, gear (clothing, shoes, skis, sleepingbag) and emergency rations. Avalanches and frostbite are the real danger, so you always have to be prepared, even if it is a "day tour" the one that you are heading to...

Staying at the hot springs until morning is generally a safer option in this scenario. It allows you to use natural resources for warmth, conserve energy, and navigate more safely in daylight. Always prioritize safety and use the time to prepare for a safe journey back once the sun rises. There are mountain lions in that area. And they are more active at night. If you had gotten frostbite, or injured by falling in the dark, you could have died.

I'm really sorry you had to go through this mate. I work as a guide in Santiago and I know that there's a very mixed bag when in comes to the quality of tour companies. There was a similar instance last winter with some Colombian tourists that were left behind on a tour to the andes and thankfully were found by the police alive and well before any tragedy struck. Regrettably there isn't a lot of quality control from the authorities. I'd always recommend asking in tour information offices for reputable service providers because online you can find a very wide offer but some companies have been doing this for decades and some were created after covid and the difference shows.

This is an excellent video, a real adventure. Very picturesque, beautiful, eventful and thriller. Thank you for sharing this adventure. I’m glad the tour company finally found you all. For all that you all went through, I hope this video goes viral. You risked your life for your viewers. When I saw the vehicle in worse condition then how ya’ll left and it was late and dark, I panicked for y’all. The driver was new too. That wasn’t a good sign either. Thankful everyone was okay.
