Fun fact--it's actually possible to metal-plate plastic! There are companies out there that specialize in it, including doing gold plating! BUT if you're going through all that trouble, going with the metal shell will give you the increased heft and temperature transfer for that extra ritzy feel.

If I’m remembering correctly, the Queen’s staff actually turned down accepting the Wii. I remember someone who used to work at THQ saying that the gold Wii disappeared from their office before they shut down.
