I MADE MY OWN PANTS | DIY Trousers

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I made my own pants...though technically this is a DIY gurkha trousers video, it's not too much of a pants making tutorial because I found out how much I sucked at this. But hey, look at this as my journey of making my own pants from scratch in one week. I plan on making more so once I perfect it, I'll make a tutorial.
But for now, here is my gurkha trouser tutorial/journey.

I'm new to the sew-your-own-clothes world. Last Sunday I spent all day working with a vintage pattern, sewing a pair of 1940's slacks for my DD. I've never made trousers before and You|tube was so helpful. Watching your process was like a rollercoaster! The excitement builds for your dream pants to take away on holiday and all the planets are in alignment with an excellent score with fabric on sale. Working to a deadline, puzzling out pattern pieces, the frustration of slow going as you're learning/relearning skills...this was my Sunday's journey but I had a pattern and some dodgy instructions that assumed I knew what I was doing :D I've enjoyed a few of your videos and haven't had a deep dive to find out if you ever made these again. I hope you did! If it's helpful for aspiring sewers, here's what I've learned from making making garments: Make a MUSLIN (a mock up). If we're lucky it could be a 'wearable muslin'. I used old bed sheets. The first pair, I made everything according to the pattern so I could understand the techniques. The second pair with alterations - I didn't bother with the waist band, zip, pocket, finishing the seams; it was just to check the fit of the leg, waist height and circumference. Kinda wish I'd done this with the first muslin I poured my heart and time into but then I'd not have learned what needed to change. WASH and dry the fabric intended for wearing/the good stuff before use as it can shrink a lot. It's a painful lesson :( Serging around the fabric or zig zagging the edges before washing helps to retain the shape and prevents lots of fraying. Wash and dry the fabric using the settings/machines you intend on laundering the completed garment with. SERGE or zig zag the edges of the cut out fabric pattern pieces before going ahead and sewing them together. My vintage pattern said to sew, press seams apart and then finish (zig zag, overlock or pinking shears) but one brilliant KZreadr said serge the individual pieces first; it's easier. There's a 'how to sew tailored trousers' on SKILLSHARE. The audio is awful but the instructions are great - from taking measurements, creating the pattern pieces and each step of the sewing process; it's really helpful. I loved your pants and am so happy you loved them too! It takes time and energy and motivation and resources to do a project like this; thanks for documenting it. It's been a while but I hope your holiday was fantastic. You earned it!!

Wow, thank you so much for those incredible tips!! I can't thank you enough for that...I'm working on a second pair as we speak and it's going well so I can't complain! My holiday was the best I ever had, honestly...I hope to go back one day because I left a piece of my heart there. Thank you so much! Good luck with all your sewing endeavors!

Hey man! The brand is Singer, but I'm not sure of the price, as we got it a long time ago, but there's many of them available at a wide range of prices that can be really cheap!
