Fantastic job! This project reminds me of how the Emuwing originated: a lot of time, plenty of beers, and a wildly creative mind. 😄 When I first tackled this, I used a flat steel bar, 50mm x 4mm, which I bent and attached to the seat belt mounts and the handle above the rear window. That way, I could mount the hinges without needing to drill holes in the car. It was very similar to your finished product and was even on the GQ I owned back in those days! I personally love seeing DIY projects like this; it really makes me proud of the inventive spirit in all of us! Keep up the incredible work.

Mint vid man! I did the same to my GQ but I raptor coated it and used pinch weld around the sheet aswell, just stopped any chance of it cutting and also made it fill the rest of the gap between the sill and door out.

Again, as per usual, you smashed this project outa the ball park. I've always wanted Gull Wing windows in my GU BUT I'm yet to find a manufacturer that does them for the GU with rear airconditioning fitted. Only one to show interest has been Cruiser Company saying they will eventually be doing them, but no definitive date provided. I suspect your GU "TI" may have rear air, so I'll be super keen to see how you work around it in the rear passenger side glass. Aside from that issue, my radio antenna's are built into my rear side glasses too, so I loose my radio antenna's also. Yours is old school antenna, not an issue for you.

If you add on the 60 dollars an hour the engineer and designers got for making the kits sold by [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] the price isnt bad. But if its just a weekend wheeler thing. Yeah, DIY is king. I love DIY though and if you have the confidence in yourself to understand what youre doing, go for it. Got me some plans for a custom roof because of the GQ rot. Nah, can't accept that as being an issue even if seats were in use. Still has flow thru ventilation via rear pillars regardless, plus look at the GU series, all fixed glass whether it's a DX - 5 seater or ST - 7 seater. Sliding glass was dropped from all vehicles as it was a safety hazard, arms out of car in rollover scenario. Fixed glass resolved that hazard.
