One of the most beautiful terrarium builds I've seen, and so unique in the fact that it's arboreal and so narrow, but works perfect for your mantis. A think a great name would be Jade.

@syranicolealivio3212 I don't see that as a problem. Many boy and girl names are used for the opposite gender or other genders as well. Besides, Scyther is based on a pokemon. (Which can be male or female). Its ridiculous that people think names should be gender associated.

I was very impressed when I saw the wonderful breeding environment. I also raise praying mantises in Japan, but they are kept in simple environments. This video made me want to try making a terrarium as well. I would also be happy if you could upload videos of insect breeding.

Obviously, the terrarium looks very nice I don't need to comment on that, so from an experienced keeper: Mantids don't really care for vertical space once they've reached the top, they will hang there 99% of the time. So the netting at the top is great (metal mesh is an absolute no go, as they can lose a leg if it gets stuck in the mesh), I'd presonally stick a bit more onto the top for good messure so it has plenty of space to molt from. And put a few more vertical sticks along the bark would be nice so the mantis can pick a molting if it feels like the top isn't sufficient. As mantids are arboreal, isopods isn't something it would normally eat. The only time I've seen any of the ones I've kept on the ground has been when they were dead. Flies are probably the best you could feed them, followed by roaches. Crickets are pretty infamous, as they are strong enough to hurt a mantis. And an ongoing rumor is that mantids can't digest crickets and can die from impaction. This is very touch'n'go, with no real proof, but I'd rather be on the safe side just in case it turns out to be true. Happy keeping!

Great video! So I've watched more terrarium building videos than I care to admit and this is the first time I've seen the "silicone door hinge" technique. Very innovative! What's the longevity like? I would suspect longevity depends on a few factors, being weight of the door, frequency of usage as well as the range of motion.... Keep up the good work! Subbed.

This same setup would be amazing for an arboreal tarantula like an avic avic or poecilotheria species. The hollowed out log with a viewing window in the back would be perfect since it would make it's burrow back there and not web up much of the outside which is beautifully planted and the focal point of the tank. Maybe you could think of reusing this tank for one once the mantis passes away. Idk the lifespan of female mantis but I feel like the lifespan is only a year or two

This might be a stupid question, but I’ve had a look through a few of these videos now and I’m a bit confused. The bottom layer is pebbles followed by the mesh and the soil mixture however when I look elsewhere they have all the layers separate instead of having them mixed together like you. Which is the better way to do it and is there a benefit!
