This turned out so cute 😍 I'm German and I approve 😂👍 I think the reason why it's so hard to find traditional Dirndl patterns is because it has been worn for centuries in parts of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and doesn't only come with regional variations but also has changed during the past. Nowadays the skirts are way shorter, a lot of trim and bedazzling is used. I can highly recommend the pattern by thisiskachi, great size selection and both professional and traditional looking 😊👍 plus she's Bavarian so I trust her 😂

There is another reason why it's hard to find, too, in my opinion: a good dirndl has a custom made pattern. It needs to fit really really snugly.

@@moniaqua_on_youtube yeah but that applies to every tight fitting garment then though, and you can find plenty of patterns for let's say corsets or other tight fitting, non-stretch pieces so I don't see why that would be a main reason? 🤔 Plus it's very common for Dirndl vests to have the side seams flatlined aka both outer and lining layer exposed on the inside of the garment for easy alterations and taking in or letting out the seam allowance whenever needed, especially on every-day kinda Dirndl (even high end Dirndl manufacturers use this technique to this day)

@@natalieklein9945 I know that dirndls are easily to be altered :) See, I am living in Bavaria and made three dirndls for myself plus I had all those wonderful dirndls Mom made for me. Maybe the fact, that you geht more patterns for corsets etc. is because corsets and let's say Victorian and Medieval era etc. are way more asked for? From what I can see is that English speaking dress historians are very interested in Medieval and then in Victorian and Edwardian times clothes but not that much (yet?) in dirndln. Which is very understandable, Victorian and Edwardian is their starting point to history if living in US and Medieval is just a hype right now. The average Bavarian/Austrian/Swiss seamstress who does dirndls is likely not so speak English too well, as it is already mentioned in one of the comments here. There might be some out there, though and incidentally I am doing tailoring classes right now which include the making of two dirndls in the second year (it is a course in 52 lessons and aims on teaching tailoring for becoming seamstress). So I suppose there are patterns in English language out, only doing a whole course in order to get a pattern might be a bit too costly and time consuming :). But, my point is, if I want to have a custom made dirndl, I go to a course here, I go to a (specialized) seamstress here or I already have a pattern. I could go to a store, they are out there and there are even whole journals with dirndls but then again, I have already taken my measurements if I use those and those journals are kinda expensive because the number of printed copies is so low. It might be that it just doesn't occur to the ones who make patterns here that someone speaking English might be interested in a pattern for a dirndl.

@@moniaqua_on_youtube your initial comment was essentially 'you don't get many Dirndl patterns because it's a tight fitting garment so you need a custom pattern', which I questioned to be a valid or main reason. You seemingly considering yourself to be an expert should see my point that yes, tightly fitting garments aren't as forgiving when it comes to the fit and probably will need adjustments to the pattern or finished garment to get the best looking outcome, but that doesn't only apply to dirndls in specific but all tight fitting pieces of clothing. In my opinion you can definitely get a great outcome with available patterns, whether you make adjustments to it at home by yourself or visit some kind of course where they teach you to ✌️

I‘m Bavarian and I love it! If you want to wear it on Oktoberfest just change the blouse to a more modern one and you are perfect to go! 😊 By the way, the apron thing is actually true. You really have to knot it a certain way whether you are in a relationship or not. But that doesn’t mean that the guys know about it 😂

Something that may have not aided your search might've been searching partly in English - as an English speaking person living in Germany, any time I'm searching for German-specific info, I've found I also need to search in German, so like "traditionelles Dirndl-Schnittmuster" instead of "traditional Dirndl dress pattern"

This is a very good point 👏 especially traditional / historical / vintage patterns and reconstructions probably won't be available in English, even today a lot of pattern makers won't go 'through the hassle' of translating the pattern and instructions or providing an English version, sadly

I am from Austria and wanted to say that you did well. Dirndl styles change a lot over the years, my grandma used to wear them with a closed neckline without blouses and everything was long haha. nowadays the style you used is very common.

Whaou the end result looks really good on you. I wasn’t too sure about the colour combinations at first, but it came out great. I am going to try to make one myself. I recently was in Switzerland and Austria and I just adore those traditional dresses. Such a princess or sound of music vibe 🥰🤩

Aaahhh Leavenworth!!! I used to live about half an hour from there and my husband and I fell in love and spent part of our honeymoon there! Love it so much, and I miss it SO much now that I live in mid Missouri! 😭

Yours turned out very beautiful. I have 5 Dirndls. The ones I have, I didn't make them though, but they're pretty nice, out of the 5 I have the black and red has to be my favorite. I've got a video on my channel showing the different ones I have. I don't have this type, but I think the one that comes from the Schwarzwald, has to be one of my favorite types. From the research I've done, I found out that they're originally from the 18th century and they were maid dresses in the countryside, but when the people of higher class went out for vacations, they seen the dresses and fell in love with the style and they wanted their own so they made their own with higher quality fabrics. Traditional colors were red, black, forest green and navy I believe.

You did well. There could be done some minor improvements if you go for a really traditional dirndl, but what came out is already way more traditional than the stuff one usually can see on Oktoberfest :) (those "Halloween costumes" you mentioned at the start of the video). It actually looks really good. The only thing I personally would definitely change is the zipper - there is no such thing as a zipper on *traditional* dirndls (although they indeed are used nowadays on modern dirndls - not the Oktoberfest-Halloween-Stuff but wearable, tasteful dirndl). A traditional dirndl has buttons. Or in some cases hooks and eyes. But else its fine. The cartridge pleating could, if you desire, go a bit further down (I like to pleat about 5 to 7 cm), just take an about 3 mm gingham (? - I call it Vichy-Karo) to get the stitches even and stitch about 6 to 8 rows, depending on taste) and I ususally have the skirt longer, but that is more a matter of taste. The pattern I know has a "Wiener Naht" in the back and two darts in the front but sometimes a "Wiener Naht" in the front is used instead of the darts, too, so I think your's is fine. same here! i went to leavenworth every winter when i was younger, it’s even prettier with the christmas lights & snow.

3:07 yes, it's traditional. The original have that necklace. And all the Bavaria people wear it, especially in September and October. But not only. I saw bacarian people that where the lederhosen (the male version of bavarian dress) everyday for work (hard work) in Berlin. I live in Berlin. In the bavarian area was normal dress it, included the hostess (of every nationality) of Lufthansa in the October fest month. Even here in Berlin you can see that dress in september/october

I've never seen your videos before and I don't know your story BUT if you feel like the end products are suffering because you're rushing to produce content you could try slowing down with content... its better to be 100% happy with what you have and people will understand... plus videos on finishing and beautifully finished garments are lovely

A Dirndl is such a nice piece of clothing and surprisingly easy. Hope, you agree on that. Your fabric choices are awesome, especially the blouse. Traditional Dirndls are two pieces and the bodice is laced up or buttoned. Zippers are used for modernized Dirndl. Btw, only widows have the bow of the apron in the back. If you are not married, you bind the bow in the front left.

about finding really traditional versions ... as far as I remember (from a documentary) the whole concept only became a thing in the 1800s with the Bavarian King wanting to create more of a sense of a unified territory and sent out committees to note down traditional local things ... and most dirndl styles now are based on whatever the villagers tended to wear at the time ....... and then it was also popular with tourists and got extra establishment through that ... according to the german wikipedia it's an urban fashion invention from around 1900 .. and attributes the committees (and some of the design) and things to the uhh 1930s ... tldr: this isn't organic tradition to begin with (which is both kinda complicating things but also frees up to make things whatever you like and are comfy in) that said from what I can tell from processions, villages have developed their own styles by now though o.o
