I remember a college roommate crotcheted a bikini that turned out cute. I don't remember if she actually wore it in the water, but she brought it with her for Spring Break somewhere warm near water. It was made out of cotton and lined. This was in the early '70s. What goes around, comes around!

I love watching you make mistakes, because that's how all my crochet projects work too. The bikini came out great! So cute.

Wow I never really wanted to make crochet swim until now, adding the lining and the soft elastic straps seems like it would be so much more comfortable!

I'm literally making a crochet skirt right now and the number of times I've had to unravel it....like no. But it always feels SO good when you're done!!

You could make a crochet flared ant in the same pattern and together with the bikini top it would make a great festival outfit!

I have worn a cotton crochet bikini in the water before, it does end up stretching out and getting really heavy, but it was much more comfortable to wear out of the water than an acrylic yarn might have been as it was really hot outside. Definitely be careful if you take it swimming it might get kinda loose, but you can always tighten the straps as that happens if they are the kind you can tie. I have never made bottoms however, not sure how those would hold up

I would love to see you make a quilted/patchwork beach towel from hand towels and rags from the thrift, I just thought of the idea and you would be the most ideal person to try it out.

I saw a post saying you should use a mix of cotton and spandex yarn. Their reasoning was, after your cotton yarn stretch, it wouldn't return to its original sizing, making it too loose for your body and doesn't fit snug. I'm trying very hard to find that original post.

I’m almost 60 and have only been crocheting a few months. I wish I had learned when I was in junior high/high school because I swam and went to the beach all the time! I wanted a crochet bikini way back then so badly, but they were expensive!! I could have made my own. 😭 My goal is to make a cute halter top for my daughter when I get a bit better at crochet. @@annalake4376 was questioning my memories really necessary? It was the very early 80s and while by today’s standards people might not do it, it was still totally innocent. My crochet bikini covered just as much as any other bikini. I just had a saggy bum when I came out of the water.
