I have seen a similar hack with sleeve ties from the closet historian - make the middle couple inches of the sleeve tie ribbon elastic, the part that is hidden in the channel. Tie to a comfortable snugness (and put a stitch in it if you want. The elastic allows you to take the sleeve on and off without untying. Definitely going to try the button version too!

Omgosh I just love, love, love how cute this turned out! I live your idea for buttons. I wish i had thought of that.muself. I just made a Mideval cotehardie/ kirtle with only about a million 1/4'' imbuttons. I though i was being mazy by using button hole tape. Your idea takes the cake. Next time. The best part of the video was the Pokémon toy photo bomb. Too cute. I think your little guy needs to do some more photo bombing in the future 😉

Cute! I feel you when you said you need more wearable historically inspired clothes. I have so many “costume” tupe stuff I’ve made that I definitely can’t wear. I recently made a 1810 short stay which I made into a dress by adding a pleated skirt. It’s so unique and cute! Idk if you’re interested in regency, but I think that would look nice on you.

My 1840s dresses, both historical and modern, are made of my altered basic bodice sloper with the iconic back seaming since the pointed waist isnt all that flattering to my figure so I settled for a straight waist. Skirts are pleated rectangles and my dresses are all evening dresses actually so its a bit more open but I just made the neckline be on my shoulders since I need some support since I am not wearing a corset (because I have no 1840s corset) so I’m needing some shoulder support. I find knife pleats better for my needs especially since I wear both the historical and modern versions in my school as my everyday clothes.

@@Sewstine Thanks, Human! Always glad to see your process. For me, at the moment, the fall down go boom is the time and the physical space. We're in the process of downsizing so our apartment has been in a state of dismantled for a while and will be for the foreseeable (le sigh). I'm compensating by teaching myself how to tat lace and weave bobbin lace. If I can't sew for the next while, at least I can see if I can make something pretty to sew to the outfits... Nothing in the world beats something that was built to fit the body you're walking around in. Well done, you.

For the record I've never had a problem with flatlining seams chafing. I made McCalls M4548 altered to make it less inauthentic, which included adding a flatlining. I don't have proper undergarments right now so I just wear it with modern ones. The lining was a weird remnant that was heavier than quilting cotton but lighter than twil. Unless your fabric is pretty coarse I don't think it will be an issue.

The circle skirt is beautiful! Although you should really let it hang for 24 hours before hemming to avoid the uneven hem, especially in linen which is a looser shifty weave and tends to fall on the bias so much more!

Hi, online I always read linen shrinks in the wash. Can you please share more details on how you wash these linen garments? Do they shrink? Do you wash in hot or cold? And what kind of wash cycle do you do?

It shrinks on the first wash, so you prewash the fabric before cutting it so your garment doesn't shrink. Most linen should be washed cold.
