I Made a Big Mistake - LG 32" 4K 240Hz OLED 32GS95UE Review
LG recently released their 32GS95UE-B gaming monitor which can push up to 240Hz at 4K and 480Hz at 1080p. No other monitor on the market is capable of such framerates even at 1080p, and combined with OLED's near instantaneous response times the motion clarity is absolutely wild. However despite this and the new sub pixel arrangement leading to much better text clarity, this monitor has started many conversations between gamers. LG made the interesting choice of equipping this monitor with a matte coating. This is what has caused so many conversations as many gamers prefer the better grain free clarity and potentially better contrast and vibrancy afforded by glossy coatings like on QD OLED and LGs own C and G4 TVs. The question is, despite this coating, is the LG 4K OLED still a great monitor, or should gamers avoid it in favor of less expensive QD OLED monitors?
This review took a very long time to make. I highly appreciate your thoughts on this topic, and would love to see this discussion shared on places like Twitter, Reddit, & other social media sites or forums so more people can contribute and have all the information before the decide what 4K OLED monitor they want to buy in 2024. should i return the monitor? I got it for around $1100 (new). I have it for 4 days now, and I've liked it so far as i came from 2k 240hz ips from Alienware. I'd like to get the qd-oled by MSI but it just never comes in stock. I only have about 10 days left to return. I usually game in a dark room with controlled lightings.

hhhmm would say if you don't play pubg which's time is like 5% of it in Erangel's fog and you've not seen glossy, there's no problem. Until you start as a player of pubg. With 20 cm of distance to the device. I would say anything matte is simply a fail then. A not glossy is simply good to look at if it's off.

Got it, agree it’s way too over priced, but fear of market drove me to snag it regardless. As expected I don’t mind the matte, it’s glossier than I expected. The 480 hz is incredibly smooth, and the 1080p looks crisp because it’s a true 4:1 conversion. I chose this one because I want 32 inch, not 27. Even at 1080p I still want 32. I get what you mean about the black crush, I’ve noticed that too. Adjusting the black level is a trade off between black blacks and faded blacks. HDR looks great, although I don’t see myself using it often. I’m using an HDMI 2.1 cable so idk if I have any issues with compression right?

I have an LG C3 and I believe this problem with the vertical lines also exists because it is w-oled. After long research I decided on the Alienware AW2725DF, when oled; glossy; 27 inches (32 I think is too big for me); 1440p 360hz (in my opinion, perfect for today); and the icing on the cake... 3 years full warranty (including image retention, burning). Honestly, I thought this mode option that LG implemented on this monitor was really cool. In my opinion, LG should tip the scales towards oled, glossy and, above all, full guarantees for its monitors. Excellent video! 😎👍

I have 4 Ikea Detolfs behind me that have LEDs on each shelves and usually play guitar with all the lights on. If that was a QD-OLED, the raised blacks would bother me like crazy. Plus, I like to play horror games with all the lights on and the black is still black and the colors are still vibrant. It really all depends on how you will use it. On a well lit environment, get the LG and if you can control the lighting, get the QD-Oleds.

I like matte displays on my laptop and I kinda regret picking Oled razer Blade over mini led razer blade. In short oled picture was better in dark rooms, in brighter rooms mini led won picture quality including blacks and punchy colors. Reason? Oled glossy screen was too reflective, distracts the quality in brighter rooms.

I got this monitor from pre order and got the 15% off so it was almost $1200 which is still a lot more expensive than the QD Oleds. I replaced my AW3423DW (which was also pre ordered in 2022) and I agree with almost everything you said. One thing I like about this monitor though is in HDR the reds tend to be more of a deep rose red than the QD Oleds which look orange in my eyes... greens look better imo too. My biggest gripe is I 100% agree that the brightness and EOT curve needs to be fixed ASAP, this monitor in HDR is WAY darker in some scenes like the max brightness is 600 nits WTF???? Also with my AMD gpu, the driver doesn't say AMD Premium Pro... just Adaptive Sync Compatible.. and I can tell... Another disappointment is yeah... 1080p looks horrendous, my native 1080p secondary monitor looks way better than scaled down 4k to 1080p. However, at 24" mode and turned the sharpness to 70, its quite a bit of a difference than the trash 1080p 32".

I agree 💯 with you in this review. I just exchanged the 32GS95UE for an AW3223QF because 1) the ridiculous price coupled with the lower quality coating and 2) the coating. Although the coating is improved you still can make it out against lighter backgrounds and just like you say for this price and premium quality in all other areas I just can’t see myself spending this much for a downgraded coating. Since I do like flat though this thing would have to be max $900 for me to go for it.

What has happened to LG and their gaming monitors? The 27gp950 (which I own) has a great semi-gloss coating with a bright, vibrant picture. Since then, they seem to have gone with heavy matte coatings and low-nit dim displays (or an aggressive ABL that kills brightness potential). I have the 27gr95um 4K mini-led, and have been so let down by it due to it's horrible inverse ABL that kills peak highlights (and overall brightness) when the screen has any dark areas(using Gamer Profiles 1 or 2, which are the only ones that don't use weird unchangeable gamas, contrast settings, etc). I'm guessing they did this to reduce blooming but it destroys the impact of HDR peak highlights in the process. In my opinion, compared to the Innocn 27m2v (which I also own), the 27gr95um doesn't even seem like an HDR display (when HDR is enabled). On paper, with more dimming zones and also being HDR 1000 certified, it has the potential to be better in HDR over the Innocn, but in practice it fails. They released one firmware update and apparently gave up on it and abandoned it (it has been at a discounted price for a while and, at least as of a month or so ago, told me there are no further plans for more firmware updates). On top of that, they lied to me about how to fix the dimming of the display (in the Q&A section on the monitor's page). LG told me to simply turn off "DFC' in the monitor's settings, but the problem is, the 27gr95um does NOT have a DFC setting (like many of their monitors do). Sorry to rant, but LG slapped their supporters in the face with that monitor.

It also had severe vertical banding that did not go away with pixel refreshes and crushed near-black details (impossible to fully fix with calibration/settings), just as you described here. Combining those issues with the matte coating, the viewing experience was honestly too dirty, especially on dark mode desktop apps. I couldn't justify keeping it for those reasons. I was surprised that no reviews mentioned those issues back then. This one seemed kind of perfect on paper, but if it's still suffering from the same problems, I just can't. @@DrakonR What a bullshit comment. In some companies you can actually choose the gear you want. This monitor may very well end up in an office. And where is the market saturated with matte OLED monitors? The LG and ASUS will bei the only once 4k 240hz. Even Apple gives you the option for a nano texture. So stop forcing your ideas for a monitor down everyone's throat and give people the option to choose.

@@interceptor001 "This monitor may very well end up in an office. " So could every other monitor. This is a nothing argument. "And where is the market saturated with matte OLED monitors?" I didn't specify OLED, there are plenty of other options. Doesn't take away from the fact the market is saturated by matte in the monitor space. "So stop forcing your ideas for a monitor down everyone's throat and give people the option to choose." Hold up a mirror. The market is saturated with matte displays. They have options to choose. But people who want a glossy monitor only have one choice. That's not equal by any stretch of the imagination nor is it a choice. If you legitimately want options, you would be in support of glossy. Just saying.

8K at 32" is overkill, 5k & 2K dual mode display is already endgame, Apple studio monitor clarity for work, and 480hz 1440p clarity for fps gaming. That is already true endgame, and if they somehow add BFI it would have 960hz motion clarity and at that point nothing can be better

@@houssamalucad753 8K is ideal for every screen size, people need to start thinking about monitors in terms of "Pixels Per Degree" and not physical pixel pitch because your field of view is the only thing that really matters. Viewing a 32" monitor from two feet away gives you 60 degrees field of view, that's only 127 Pixels Per Degree, when maximum perceivable sharpness with 20/20 vision isn't achieved until 300PPD, 8K is actually just the middle ground in terms of pixel density.

1ms mprt isn't the endgame for motion performance at all, it's endgame for 960pps a slow motion speed. that's why you see sites like rtings now using 1920pps the bar was set low intentionally because 60hz sample and hold was so bad. endgame would be pixel perfect motion at max eyetrackable motion speeds. endgame for strobioscopic artifacts is more like 20khz(no visible gaps inbetween the frames at a fixed gaze)

Pixels are much harder to drive brightness the smaller they are. So it's easier to drive brightness on a bigger TV with the same amount of pixels.

You went off the deep end after you started shitting on QD-OLED after praising it, BUT I 100% agree with you on THIS issue. These matte coatings have a negative impact on the visual presentation. I thought it was drama until I saw the LG 27 inch 240 Hz OLED, but I quickly sold that and upgraded to the 32 inch QD-OLED.
