There is a major flaw that is never mentioned that Hollywood specifically did. They made up the reason for the major gunfight - "They have guns in the city and its against the law." That was straight out of Hollywood Anti-gun propaganda. Ignoring that, its a masterpiece movie. One of the Earp brothers tells them- "We don't want to take you guns, you just can't have them in the city." Anti-2A groups have been spouting nearly that line identical word for word for 20 plus years except now they don't even hide that now they want to take ALL guns.
The fact he has the pistol behind his back, he knew the rest of the Cowboys would come out and he was ready to take them all on. Probably would win too.

@@RagnarokMic So what he is getting at. If you listen to the phrase, and look up the context and it's origins. The handles on a coffin are traditionally called Huckles. So the phrase was "I'm you're Huckle Bearer." It was another way of saying, I will carry your casket after I kill you. Very very few people actually know the history of the term, or where it came from. And Kilmer said the line so fluid most people thought it was Huckleberry. And it just grew with time. At this point it is more of a Hollywood joke how an actor with fluid delivery can make a line take on a whole new meaning.

@@Thaaden Never believe internet memes. You got fooled. "Huckle bearer" is made up nonsense. It never existed, and ONLY exists on the internet. Kilmer didn't say it funny at all...he said Huckleberry. He has confirmed this. He actually refutes this "huckle bearer" nonsense in his book, which is interestingly titled "I'm Your Huckleberry". The script says Huckleberry, by the way. Look it up. While you're at it, look up "huckle" and you'll find it never meant "casket handle", or anything resembling a handle of any sort. This "huckle bearer" nonsense was made up on the internet, and has no basis in fact at all.

@@ThaadenYes, I'm well versed in the "huckle bearer" myth. Three main troubles with the theory: 1. "I'm your Huckleberry" is a direct Doc Holiday quote from an old story. 2. The script says "I'm your huckleberry." 3. Val Kilmer literally named his autobiography "I'm your Huckleberry.” The real issue is people not understanding a southern drawl, Doc Holiday was from Georgia. He wouldn't pronounce it "bear-ee" he'd pronounced it "berreh," which people are mistaking for "bearer."

@@ZDubz007 Huckle never ever meant any type of handle, nor any part of a casket. This is all made up internet nonsense. He said "I'm your huckleberry" in response to Ringo's "play for blood" challenge because it is a WELL-documented phrase that means "I'm game/I'm your man/I'm the one you're looking for/etc" It's the PERFECT and period-correct response to such a question. It's in the script. Scriptwriter took it right out of a 1920's book about Tombstone in which Doc says that exact thing to Ringo in this situation. And unlike "huckle bearer", "I'm your huckleberry" actually existed and appears in many books. You cannot find "bearer" in a single piece of any kind of literature. It only exists on the internet.

My granddaughter is a great artist. At one time before she got married she had an online poster business. She designed posters and sold them online. She charged 25 dollars a poster however one weekend she had a sale and on Monday morning before the post office opened, she called them and warned them that she had 247 posters to mail to different addresses so they might need extra time to get them all stamped before they opened. Anyway, one of the posters was a poster of a handsome man with a mustache labeled I’m your Huckleberry. I didn’t understand what she meant so she told me about the film. After that she went out of the poster business and went to work for a taxidermy business. She had never done any thing like that before but she was a quick study, so much so that her boss bought hunting rifles for her and another girl and brought them a trip to go on safari to Africa. I have a picture of her and the Jim buck deer that she shot. A year or two she and one of her girlfriends went on a two week trip to another country but after a week into the cruise she came back home because she had met the boy she eventually married. Now they have a 1 year old little boy and this afternoon their little 2 year old daughter is going to be 3 and she’s having a birthday party this afternoon. 👧🎂🎊🎉🎁🪅💝

Great movie, and this scene was based on an actual even that took place in January 1882. But it wasn't broken up by Curly Bill, but rather by Chief of Police Flynn. And I believe it took place on the much wider Allen Street. But still a great scene from an awesome film!

I'll take Once Upon a Time in the West over Tombstone any day. Henry Fonda as a villain was incredible.
With lesser actors, this could've been a failed attempt to revive a diminished film genre. With this cast, and with Kilmer as the standout among standouts, there were some unforgettable and inspiring scenes that make this a classic.
Huckleberry Finn came out in 1884 and was popular. So Mark Twain used Huckleberry as a humble person but also as its name sweet and wild, like him in the story. So for Doc Holiday to use it in that way shows that he can go down to his level, and was nice and ask permission to participate. Great scene!

The actual saying is from "a huckleberry to, or over, a persimmon" which was to say one thing is beneath you or that one is over qualified. It's actually a wonderful way to belittle someone in this case which if doc is looking for a fight could just edge his opponent on.
So calmly going from sitting on the porch of the barbershop, to walking up to him ready to fight and die if necessary with a pistol ready for his friends who will undoubtedly join in when he wins, truly shows the kind of person that ppl back then said Doc Holliday really was. How he and Wyatt became such close friends is just one of those twists of fate that happens in life sometimes and that makes life so great.
Movie magic!
Fun Fact: The handles on a casket are called huckles. The person who carries the casket by the huckle is called a "bearer". In the early 1800s, the term "huckle bearer" was used instead of the current term "pallbearer". Pallbearers use the huckle to carry the casket into a funeral ceremony and to the grave site. "I'm your huckle bearer... that's just my game."
“I’ll be your Huckle bearer” . In those days, the rope handles on a coffin were called the “Huckle”. When Val Kilmer told him I will be your Huckle bearer, and not, Huckleberry, he was talking about carrying his coffin at the funeral.
Sister boy should have stuck around great line
