YES!! This is actually my favourite scene in the anime! It's just so amazing to see one marine flying, poof the smoke dissipate, and you see dozens and hundreds others also in perils. I didn't know how many times I praised the animators for the transition back then while I repeat it.

It’s genuinely incredible how Oda managed to write Whitebeard so well that we only saw him fight basically once, and even lose that fight, and yet he’s still one of the most respected characters in anime to this day.

I’m currently watching One Piece for the first time, I saw this episode a couple weeks ago… I can not describe to you how it felt seeing this scene for the first time; when it finally zoomed out and showed the thousands of marines being lifted miles into the sky I was absolutely flabbergasted. WB is one of my favorite characters so far, such a strong-willed man.

He was also a clever way to develop Roger by proxy, as Whitebeard was the closest person to become the next pirate king and the strongest person alive however in spite of that never actually became pirate king, showing there was something special about Roger that placed him above Whitebeard despite of his overwhelming strength, charisma and force of character.

RIP Whitebeard, RIP Arimoto (VA). Bless Oda for this wonderful character's design, still my fav OP one to this day.

God it's crazy over 10 years later and we still haven't seen an attack of just raw power and strength match this. Kaido and BM have the durability but man WB was just a pure monster of strength.

LifeofAbz1 I'm pretty sure the actual reason for that was because the Japanese don't have a word for "beard" or "mustache," instead they have a word that refers to facial hair in general. And the translators decided that "Whitebeard" sounds better than "Whitemustache."

No attack names, no stupid verbal shouts, hit and win, that's what I call BADASS!

Whitebeard was with one foot in the grave at that time and still tanked hit like an absolute beast. Truly the strongest man in the world.

i love the way the camera pans over his weapon at 1:43 -- he's channeling his haki, but because the audience can't see haki pre-timeskip, it just looks like a silent, ordinary shaking. at this point in time haki had just recently been "revealed" in the manga, so it's neat to see toei putting in these little nods, since haki was canonically happening beyond our knowledge all over marineford. i'd also like to think this is him using advanced conquerors, and maybe oda was thinking that, but toei wouldn't have known about it yet.

Imagine giving your son to one of your one of your most fierce rival (Garp) and having your son call your fiercest enemy dad.. The respect Roger had for Garp and White Beard is crazy

Out of the Four Emperors of the Grand Line, the Marines not only provoked one of the most morale, but arguably the strongest one. If this had been Kaido or Big Mom, the fans probably would have been rooting for the Marines to win.

It’s honestly both sad and awe inspiring when you realize that he ate those attacks because he literally couldn’t dodge them. He was so “weak” in his old age that he just couldn’t move like he used to anymore, and he still did more damage to the Navy than all other pirates there combined. Man was a fucking legend

@@TheSniperpal The Yonko are like the Kings from Yuyu Hakusho. The Three Kings are Upper S Class demons on equal footing although Raizen in his prime would hav easily been the strongest. Like how Whitebeard in his prime is easily the strongest, but made equal from his weak state

Yea I still think this is the greatest pure strength feat in One Piece. He just hits the ground and everything goes up like a bomb. There have been crazier feats but they all involve haki or DF. WB is still the only character ( Mihawk too up till this point) that doesn't name his attacks, and he doesn't need to because he's Whitebeard.

​@@RikkiTikkiTavi290definitely is the most brute feat of pure strength , probably will stay that way since mostly characters now either uses haki or devil fruit attacks , kaido has better feats on being resilient and restiance (his intro pretty much sums up) , Oda missed giving him some brute strength feats , maybe "breaking " the island type thing, or tossing objects to the stratosphere.

Of course they were part of the reason. The power that Whitebeard launched to send all this marine dudes flying was later missing for giving Blackbeard a final hit. Of course houndred of small fry people were part of the reason why Whitebeard was already to exhausted in his last battle.

Blackbeard only won because she showed up when he did. Right at then end, with Whitebeard pretty much out of gas and separated by the big chasm he himself made between his crew and himself. Blackbeard was another variable nobody could account for, and this time it wasn't in Whitebeard's favor.

Loved this scene! It helped give a sense of just how powerful one of the Yonko was. Whitebeard was old and frail with sickness and still caused that much damage before he finally fell...AND the dude died STANDING UP with no wounds on his back

Whitebeard was still a force to be reckoned with despite his deteriorating health because of two factors: his Devil Fruit power, and the love his "sons" had for their "Father". Other great pirates of his prime either died or were abandoned by their crews. But Whitebeard's sons never left him.

Never takes an attack from the back, always right at his chest Loves his family more than anything Crippled most of marineford by himself Didnt care about being the pirate king Took the title of the strongest man Was standing when he died Damn I wanna be a man like that

People misunderstood something…Whitebeard was been named the strongest one and the one who can destroy the world since the roger era…he was on par with roger but he ALSO had the tremor tremor fruit…whitebeard could smoke almost anyone in OP in his prime

@@anjaneyar.u.7434 Got two things a little wrong there Whitebeard was going all out, Akainu said that if he left Whitebeard on his own he’ll destroy Marineford, with Whitebeard telling him to try and stop him. When he also fought Akainu after Ace died, he was enraged and going all out. You can’t tell me *Heaven and Earth Shaker* was not full power. Also you’re forgetting about Roger in the when talking about the strongest in OP

AJ Urs nah, he was going all out. Dude was old, dying and had like 2-3 holes punched into him throughout the battle. If he had more juice, ace would be alive but just look how slow he moves and how he tries to just stand in one spot

I'm sure Luffy will be Pirate King, but that doesn't mean he can take Whitebeard's title of Badass King

The fact that whitebeard was able to pretty much solo the upper level marines and tank this much damage makes you wonder if marineford had taken place even five years in the past. Whitebeard did all this half blind and a foot in the grave.
