I'm thinking about giving up rollerblading.I need your help.

Its been a weird couple of weeks.
I've had some really fun rollerblading sessions with the crew. Just recently, I started asking myself why Im bothering to do it at all.
I need your help to convince me to carry on.

If aggressive isn't doing it for you right now, maybe try urban or wizard skating. Less dangerous but still challenging and its got that flow!

Sometimes you need a break. A new motivation, some new blading mates, new goals, new inspiration. There is nothing wrong about having a break, however long it takes. I know you probably feel like the clock is ticking and each day, week and month without blading gets you closer to the end. I am 44, and I broke my ankle this year (not while on my skates). It fell like the worst time in my life, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to jump, grind and blade again. Now after 6 months, I'm back with a new crew and a great motivation. Have a break, get your mind focused on something else and see whenever you want to come back. Your skates will be waiting for you. Always.

do what you love and just be careful with the harder tricks, better pads. I was a skateboarder and blader for 20+ years but my knees was sore days after so i tried a scooter instead and it is so much better for my knees and body in general as i can put a lot of the weight on the bars..

Hi mate, I haven’t skated for years now but had many of those moments. Sometimes a little break from it is all you need. I also tried to change things a bit and once I was struggling with a trick, I tried to do something different. Once you do the mistake a couple of times, repeating it over and ove may just help cement a bad habit. Keep It up as you probably have gone through the hardest part of the sport which is starting and sticking with it.

Do not quit is my advice. Breaks can be necessary but make sure to keep carrying on or pivot. I do not know what you are dealing with but here is my story. I used to skateboard and do tricks in the 90s. Worked got jobs didn't do much skating. Life can be tough as you know. I tried to return to skating in 2020, and I just couldn't do what I could do in the 90s, and rather than give me joy it just frustrated me. Both skateboarding for tricks and blades. What I did was pivot. 40 year old guy out of shape, not too bad mind you but pushing 200 lbs at 5'10". I started to just skate for fun/around the town for endurance. At first I could only do 3 miles before my ankles were just killing me. Fast forward a year later I worked up and completed my first NorthShore Marathon. I just recently lost my father to cancer and I was his nurse till the end taking care of him, and skating has been a great outlet when dealing with the depression and grieving process. Life has ups and downs, but keep on doing what you love and if it isn't bringing you joy, then take a break and come back. Take care out there.

What works for one person won't work for another. The answers you want are ones that only you can find. Why does it matter that you weren't hitting anything? Have fun in failure as much as success. All the best.

Some days may feel like you're getting no where progressing with aggressive inline. The key here is to understand the trick...there is always something about each trick that is causing it not to happen. In my own way I call em the key for each trick. To get to the key to open up the trick it could be anything from sufficient speed, the jump height, the locking angle, upper body placement on the obstacles or even maybe how the skates are being set up and secured. At first it gets very frustrating but with just some simple understanding what is holding you back will get you a long way. I use to not be able to hold my grinds long enough to finish up the entire obstacle...So i realised the problem was I that I was no fully on top of the rail to centre my balance to a 50/50 distribution... or a square ledge where I am leaning too deep getting wheel bites. Once I identify the issue and fixing my form and approach, the trick became easier each time and I was able to grind better and further. With the confidence from achievement I expanded to more similar tricks...maybe you could do a warm up set, like mine will always be Soulgrind and next up toa frontside, Mizou then followed to a backside, acid then rotate my body and go for a back unity... once warmed up then can go for front royale, back royale, mistrial, front and back farv... progression takes times but once u break the choke of confidence and frustration...its gonna be one blessing for tons of fun sessions ahead. Don't give up brother. You are at the final stage before the rea fun begins.

Hey man, what are some things that you enjoy about skating? What part of skating fills your heart? I find when I hit a wall in my skating (or any) journey it's because I've lost sight of what I used to enjoy about skating. By keeping the fundamentals fun and fresh, I find myself loving the sport again because I'm able to improve that little bit more and figure out some new things I hope you're able to find what works for you, best of luck! (P.s. taking a break is sometimes needed too, so there's no reason to feel guilty about taking a break if you need)

Thanks so much for your brilliant words of encouragement and advice. I have always loved pushing myself beyond my comfort zone the most fun, but recently fear of trying new tricks has held me back. I think a weeks break should help me miss it enough to want to come back to it with fresh eyes and mind. Thanks again for your awesome words of advice.

I almost quit for 4 years now of not learning and keep on buying wrong size of skates. I cant return it since I buy internationally and no one wants to buy. I finally bought the right size. happy that I can learn. I fall less. I feel more safe. I have way too small feet. Its ok to take a break. try different tricks. try urban skating. its fun

You should maybe learn to skate some new styles. You look more so comfortable on ramps and stuff so why not try and learn some cool manual tricks or find some street ledges to skate and film yourself and make an edit with some music. I think its really important to keep it fresh and try new things within your hobby. Obviously im sure you know this but skating is really really fun and if making a little art project out of it will get you to keep going then maybe try and do something like that. Anyways what I'm trying to say is, skate for your sake and in part make art for your sake, always remember we have hobbies because its fun not because were trying to appeal to someone/thing.

I really appreciate your kind words of advice. The best skate sessions have always been the ones when I am just having fun. Sometimes fatigue or woutside influences can mess up a good session too. I'm going to head out next time with the sole purpose of having a good time. Many thanks .
