I'm Switching...Vegas Pro To Davinci Resolve: Here's Why!

In this video, I'm sharing why I'm switching from Vegas Pro to Davinci Resolve. I'll cover the pros and cons of both software packages, and explain why I made the switch.
If you're also thinking of making the switch to Davinci Resolve, then this video may be for you.

Thank God I'm not the only one dealing with Vegas Pro's crashes. I have Pro 20 and it crashes more than when I practiced with my Pro 16 that was a blootleg. Like... I paid for this? Seriously? Love the video. Thank you for the suggestion!

I'm doing the same. Have been using Vegas since the Sony days as well. I'm just fed up taking 3 times as long to edit with the multiple crashes. Also when you report the crashes, it's always dismissed with "you must be using it wrong, or with Go Pro footage, or Sony or Panasonic"...bla bla bla. I'm just really nervous but know I need to bite the bullet and just get on with it.👍

I've been using Vegas 14 for a couple years now. I have nothing but vitriol towards the application. Today I tried out Davinci Studio and even all started great; there is an auto-subtitle feature and rendering takes 1/3 as much time as the footage (Vegas renders at the VERY LEAST three times as long as the footage, and has for years on my machine). However, at first glance I am finding it very difficult and unintuitive to use Davinci. Is auto-ripple really always on? Why is the CUT shortcut Shift + \ ? Why can I not extends or speed up audio or video files by ctrl + dragging like on Sony Vegas? There doesn't seem to be even a more difficult way to do this. It's just things like this that boggle my mind. I know I am probably not getting something here, but it's almost like no one uses their own Video Editing software that they develop.

Never had an issue with Auto Ripple, as for the shortcuts it does take some getting used to, and speeding up audio or video is very easy to do. There are 1,000's of youtube videos about all the features. i would recommend youtubing whatever you are trying to learn. it's much easier than sitting through long videos hoping for an answer, But once you learn where everything is, it is so much simpler that Vegas. Vegas 14pro was the version i used, abd Davinci is better by leaps and bounds, there is just a learning curve. Once you get past that you are good to go.

0:09 - I think you need to disable resampling here: the reflective vest has some serious ghosting as the camera moves. Vegas makes this easy... even if it crashes and chugs.

yes you are correct, it was one of the things i liked about Vegas, However i can also do it in Davinci. Some times i mess around with vegas, but i've learned so much in davinci that it makes sense to use it as my main editing program.

Davinci is def a greater software in terms of the color panel and audio panel.. but vegas will forever be the easiest and fastest get around daw to edit.. Magix should work more in partnering with other daw in allowing us to edit our project in vegas and allowing us to transfer stems for further edits in other daws. I also would love for vegas to be Mac compatible

i know there is no longer a sony vegas, i @@Reyfox1 you must have clicked off the video right after the first few seconds because i said, "i had always used Sony Vegas or more recently Magix Vegas." As far as price goes i remember paying $400 for Vegas pro 10 and even more when i upgraded to Pro 14. I would have been ok with $150. Look at davinci it's free and you get bender render speeds, more supported file types, and very very few crashes. Plus alot more effects. What do you consider a fair price point?

@@JeffGresham my bad... sorry about the "sony" thing., but @2:17, you do say "later to Sony Vegas". I get so used to hearing "sony vegas" from people who pirate it, it triggers me. As an upgrade,, you know the pricing is much lower. I remember upgrading to VP15 Suite (not Edit) and it was $299. So was 16 Suite and 17 Suite. But then I went with Boris FX Continuum Complete. From then on, Vegas Edit for 18, 19, 20, and decided to give Post 365 a go. So effects I have aplenty (NBFX TotalFX 360, Ignite Pro, a couple of Sapphire units, etc.). I've had Resolve Studio (paid version with the Speed Editor). It was a gift from the wife. I've had it for a few years. Yes, upgrades so far, free. BMD doesn't depend on sales to keep things afloat. So they can give it away with all their cameras, and the free version for everyone else. Render speeds... are you comparing the same with current Vegas? PCMag did this and Vegas is faster rendering in their tests. And while it's important, it isn't the "end all be all". I spend more time editing than rendering anything. I remember the days of letting your computer render all night, hoping there were no crashes, to get a video. I can occupy my time while the PC is rendering. Crashes. I've had it with both Resolve and Vegas. But for me, Vegas has always been quite stable with the projects I work on. Usually 422, 10bit, 24P, 4K from Panasonic . But use what works is what I always say. As for someone actually knowing what software was used to edit, I have videos edited with different software, and there is no way someone can say "brand X' edited it, unless using "canned" effects from said video software. Much success!

Im using a pc with a ryzen 5, and 16 gb of ram. However i started using davinci with 8gb of ram. My advice would be to just download it. Its free. See how well it works for you. As far as sacrifices. There are none. There is a learning curve but once you learn the program its simple. And if you get stuck or are unsure how to do certain things you can find the solution on youtube easily.
