If you're like me, you may have felt like the whole world, including the Church, has gone insane and you're exhausted from standing your ground in opposition to it all. In this video I describe a recent experience of contemplating a way that I could surrender the fight, especially the fight for traditional Catholicism and where that time of prayer led me.

Yes! The more Christianity as a whole tries to be more on the level of the world the less interested the world becomes in what the church has to offer. Lack of reverence in the churches across the globe has caused such a decline in interest from the lost (and sadly even the proclaimed Christians, Catholic or Protestant) If we are no different then why would they be interested? The lost & suffering are searching for something vastly different than what they have! The church needs to be different, set to a higher standard and stand out, not blend in!!

You most certainly do fit, when I was born again the most liberating truth and change for me was that my identity was found in Christ not fitting in with a group even my local church group ) I’m a isolater by choice I like my own company and space so that might not be you, but I was just trying to impress that truth that in Christ I have everything and I don’t need the “””things””” of this world to fit in anymore if that makes sense ) I believe we are all crazy to a degree, I’m not catholic but I have found my identity in Christ ) and that has transformed my life for eternity ) just wanted to state that. I still have my struggles due to the groans of this world and all that entails, just wanted to say you ain’t alone and Christ knows our struggles very personally and the Holy Spirit comforts us when these matters arise ) we are blessed beyond measure.

I know the feeling well. As Anglicans, we had the beautiful and reverent English liturgy, fantastic old hymn books, gorgeous architecture, well-crafted homilies, a wonderful parish community, and not to mention altar rails, ad orientem posture, Eucharistic reception on the tongue, and many more of the same features many love about the TLM. But we lacked one big thing: communion with Rome. So we gave all that up and took a leap of faith to join the Church. It has had its rough spots, but we’ve never regretted that decision. Plus, with the gift from Pope Benedict to the Church of the Ordinariate, we’ve even been able to get almost all of those traditions back. God never takes anything away unless he’s planning to give back far more than he’s taken. We only have to have the trust to let go and take a leap of faith.

The Traditional mass goers of today remind me of the Apostles hiding in the Upper Room until the Pentecost, when after having received the fire of God's fierce Love, they went out into the world and changed it. So, here is my prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, give my Catholic brothers the courage to come out from hiding and help change hearts and minds of their brothers in the Novus Ordo Church. I am fighting all alone and I attend both forms on Sundays. Yes, dear Lord, you gave them the best form of Adoration of Our Lord Jesus, but this time you forgot to give them the courage that goes with it. Therefore Holy Spirit, "Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth... "

Hi, revert millennial here. It really echoed with me this video. During the first year of my conversion I used to go to a “charismatic renewal” parish, full of the tambourines and cringe dancing we all Catholics know from some of the novus ordo. It hit my faith. I converted mainly during college after reading medieval philosophy and then getting into studying the Bible. What I found in the Gospels was that something that I had been looking for, it resonated through me so much I felt it stabbed my heart with light and truth. I somehow didn’t see it reflected in that mass. I went through a crisis and decided not to to return and even considered abandoning Catholicism altogether. But something kept pushing inside me and I continued praying the rosary and reading the Bible. One day I attended a mass in a little chapel inside my college campus, not even knowing why I did it. It was small event but full of solemnity and I felt for the first time I had attended a mass dedicated to God instead of dedicated to people. I knew right then I was a catholic and that there was only that path. I don’t know what to say to you that would ease your struggle because we are all so different, but focusing on God instead of the ones who attack Him and refraining from caring too much about people’s opinions has helped me. “Stat Crux dum volvitur orbis” . The Cross is steady while the world turns.

Our Faith is the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. As you mine deeper and press harder into the precepts and Traditions of the Faith things get richer, more vibrant and more alive. Also, I'm so happy to be alive in this time of the ascendancy of evil as these are the times that Saints are made. These are times we can live out our Faith in opposition to the powers of this world. To live the Faith under the threat of oppression and even lethal hatred is awesome, to me at least... I love it. This is the time to be a Faithful Catholic!

God intended us to be *here in this place now.* He has His reasons and maybe all will be revealed but maybe not. But we must stay the course. No matter what. You managed to convert at the worst of times and there will be others who do too. When my parents converted after WW2, they felt that the Church was hopelessly out of “style.” They felt distinctly excluded by Vat2. We had No Mass at all to attend for pretty much THIRTY YEARS. Imagine that. Imagine being like the young Athanasius Schneider, taking a train trip to attend Mass. We ourselves are that “Church” you want to exist. The NO liturgy is a train wreck. My older sister loves that crap (born in 1952). She sometimes goes to the Methodist Church too! Explains it all, right? She is one of those boomers who just loves every deviation from the old faith. Ugh. We can’t speak. My parents were appalled, while they were living. Soldier on.

Maybe the fact that God chose to put us into this time period means that we are more resilient than people who lived in easier times, spiritually speaking. I hope it's not too prideful to think this way, but I sometimes do believe that it's a miracle that I'm still a Catholic and received the grace to understand Catholic morality as someone who grew up 24/7 surrounded by sin and debauchery through pop culture and constant propaganda against the Church.

It is a spiritual affliction particularly relevant to a person's progress in prayer. While it is a desolation, it is a sign that God has prepared us to detach ourselves from the things of this world so that we can cleave only unto Him. It is a sign of progress in the spiritual life and there is great beauty beyond it. It is tremendously difficult, but can be beautiful in its very difficulty. I’ve had those who usually attend the Traditional Latin Mass, come to me after the Divine Liturgy and say they were amazed at the beauty of the liturgy. I remain a Novus Ordo practitioner, but I have great respect for the TLM and other Liturgical Rites as demonstrated in the Eastern Catholic Churches. With that said, I morn for the high handed ness of the hierarchy who are trying to suppress a wonderful liturgy. They are injuring faithful Catholics.

To quote a vicar I heard this week, it's all well and good to make the church door wider so more will come in but it also makes it easier for them to leave. So true. Jesus never promised an easy life for his followers, he promised persecution and death. That is simply part of the true FAITH. The Church has grown so fat and lazy that it relies fully on tradition, ritual and silly pseudo-philosophical arguments to justify their belief in God. Real FAITH is almost nonexistent in the modern Church, and that is precisely because of the lack of struggle. Comfort and wealth are the DEATH of faith, and it is about time the Church gets attacked by the world of flesh, now the worthless deadwood can burn away and Christianity can start growing stronger again instead of simply growing larger and more fat.

However, if Catholics priests and laity came back to believing in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament as He told us in John 6, they would run back to Church and get on their knees in awe. The Church’s response in providing beautiful architecture, traditional liturgy, powerful homilies and the discipline of the sacraments would naturally follow.

Several years ago when I started attending the traditional Latin Mass I had a protestant friend who had grown up Catholic visit me. I took her to 3 different masses during that visit. One was the novus ordo mass in my small town the other was a little bit more reverent of a novus ordo mass. And the 3rd was my traditional Latin mass parish. When I asked her about it later she compared all 3 masses and said without a doubt the one that she liked the most and felt God's presence was the Latin mass. It was hard for her to articulate why. But she just knew that if she were to ever come back to the faith it would be to the TLM. Please pray for her. Her name is Traci. Also pray for my son Devin who has also left the Church. I've managed to get him to go to a few TLMs and he did say he could see himself return at some point. Not exactly sure what is holding him back. But PLEASE in your charity could you say one prayer for him today or offer a small suffering or sacrifice for him. I would be so grateful.

Thanks for sharing. This is a common theme. Two points. 1) Reverence at liturgy is highly dependent on the reverence of the priest and that of the people, not the form of the liturgy. The people and priest at TLM crave that sort of reverence and jointly bring it about. That could happen at novus ordu liturgies too, if the people and priest made it a priority. It is still a valid form of liturgy. Excessive preoccupation with the lack of reverence shown by others may border on seeing others' splinters (or beams) and ignoring one's own beams. 2) News apps are of course going to highlight the negative news. They do not take random samples of all the events happening in the world. But your observation about Google banners being random is spot on and it is indeed very good to know that the majority is not buying it. Maybe a sea change is coming.

I am totally with you Brian! I became Catholic at the age of 51 in one of the Historical Missions in CA - it was so beautiful and so much history (our Baptismal font was a copper bowl made by the Chumash Indians) and the Art Work hundreds of years old. Run by the Capuchins of the Western Province it was so amazing! Then I move to East TN and man what a slap in the face! Most of the churches here (Catholic Ones) looked more like protestant churches, did Novos Ordo Mass, with all sorts of modernist not very reverent things going on! After 4 yrs of this I finally found the Latin Mass community - had never been to a Latin Mass - but wow! It is so reverent and in an older Catholic Church that at one time was the old Cathedral in Knoxville. Going there to the Latin Mass is like having a piece of Heaven on Earth. The time for prayer and contemplation, the beauty the smells and the Love for God is so real. Then Covid hits - and wow - what a nightmare! Between the churches being closed and me wondering where everyone's Faith in God is (I mean you could still go to Walmart so why not Mass?)...and then having all the sex crimes revealed more in the Church AND the Hierarchy doing things like having worship sessions to Pachamama - I was thrown for a huge whammy! I do believe that we have to make our homes now the place of worship - not to replace the church - but in case we can't get to Mass we have at least a corner of our home that focuses on Christ and a love and reverence for him! Some people are even making their homes places where a priest can come say Mass with a small altar area. I also find that my friends are much more drawn to the TRUE Faith of the AGES and the modernist music and bingo and happenings really put them off - I mean why would they leave their protestant churches for something that mimics them? We have to be strong in the Lord and His Word by studying the scripture, reading the lives and works for the great Saints - and make ourselves ready for our own death or the day when the Lord returns to Earth like he promised us! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!

Wow! So eloquently put Brian. I share your sentiments 100% and I can assure you that you are FAR from being alone. Every day I feel like the world has gone absolutely insane and that most of the leadership of the Church (tragically) has gone along for the ride. As I am sure you understand, I know people who can relate with how I think on certain points; but literally NO ONE who has put all the dots together in the same way that I have. And, like you, I conclude "Well, I guess it must be me, Lord". But I hesitate (as I am sure that you do) to abandon those things that I have come to be convinced are true - through many decades of blood, sweat, tears, correction, prayer, and study. I read myself into the Church (from Evangelicalism) about 20 years ago and was immediately attracted to the old Latin Mass. And my thinking did radically change in many ways. However, I have stubbornly refused to let go of those aspects of my previous spiritual worldview that were consistent with Scripture and Church teaching. As a result, when I am with friends who are Evangelical I feel like a Catholic, and when I am with Catholic friends I feel like an Evangelical. And that feeling of not REALLY being understood (by just about anyone), and therefore alone, can be extremely painful. Regarding your not feeling that you "deserve" a transcendent worship experience you are correct. HOWEVER, that is not the central question. The central question is "How does God deserve to be worshipped?" So keep fighting the good fight and doing this great work. And please don't back down on any issue that you feel strongly about in your spirit, even if you feel alone (for now). Humbly trust the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you into all truth. Remember, our earthly critics will not be standing with is at the Judgment Seat of Christ. We will stand there alone, and we will be answerable ONLY to Him.

It's out of love for the most Holy Trinity and for what God deserves in reverence and beauty that keeps me centered in my desire to worship him with all my heart and soul in the Mass of Ages. This gets all the more difficult in trying to keep hope, unity, and joy in the home with the family to focus more on the beauty of our faith and less around the craziness of the world and church unfortunately. I'm expecting #8 in April so please folks say an Ave for my wife and baby. In JMJ- Francesco

The way I think of it is this. The society is tilted. This means that everything that occurs is tilted too. It does not matter if it is overtly anti-Christian (burning churches etc.) or not (Covid). Because of the tilt, it tilts too, and the tilt is against Christianity. This is what makes living at the moment so tiring. We are constantly working uphill. All I can say is that every age has its trial, and this is ours. Your videos reach and help people around the world.

Dear Mr. Holdsworth: You are, most definitely, not alone. My struggle, a crisis of faith, encompassed 25 years - during which I became so frustrated and confused that I stopped the struggle and accepted being swept away in a maelstrom of indifference while endeavoring to achieve "success". One day, years ago, I began again and continue still to solidify my relationship with Jesus Christ, the Father and the Holy Spirit. Please accept my prayers and best wishes that your struggle be of short duration. May God be with you, always.

I am so with you. I speak as a Catholic organist who loves sacred music and the sacred aesthetic. I appreciate the formality of the faith which includes the sights, sounds, and smells. The initial impression and the aesthetic of my rural parish, which takes all of this very seriously, is what originally led to my conversion. Had I stumbled onto one of the “boomer” churches, I may very well not be Catholic. I realize the faith is so much more than these things, but these things open the door of one’s mind to a more heavenly reality. Thanks for your message.

I live in Southern California and while there is some amount of the boomer modernism in local parishes, it does not seem to be prevalent. Even the "mariachi mass" seems to follow a traditional structure outside of the music choice. The more traditional a service is, the more diversity you see in age as well as race, and the higher the attendance. One of the most crowded events of the year is Christmas midnight mass, which includes incense, choir, and lots of Latin. It's nice to see that even in somewhere as lost as California, modernist Christianity's contradictions are sorting themselves out. I think in more homogeneous places like Canada, you'll probably see modernism recede as boomers make up smaller and smaller shares of church membership.

Those who would say that God does not care what "type" of worship we offer they are correct but they are also wrong. God has no need of the TLM. But we have a need to give Our God the greatest expression of our hearts desires. The TLM (well celebrated, of course) does that.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I converted to the Catholic Church in the late 1990's and you have articulated exactly what I am going through also. I can't think of a single point or sentiment you didn't cover. You might be surprised to know that I have never been to a Tridentine Mass, yet feel I am where you are also. I guess though, that I have been blessed to have been at fairly solid Novus Ordo Masses and witnessed few clown masses. So, this is not brought on by your love of the Tridentine Mass alone. Like you I don't like what is happening in the secular world but am more shocked by what is going on within our Church that we can no longer run from but never seems to be addressed let alone acknowledged. It appears many in the Church, leaders included have embraced this secular plan and we are not all privy to it, but what's worse is our Shepards won't fill us in or tell us why we are wrong and need corse correction (if we really do.) I am reminded of St. Augustine's quote, " all truth is God's truth, and when one encounters truth, one encounters the God whose truth it is." I've surrendered to my Lord Jesus Christ and need my Shepards to address truth and stop talking around it. For me, I now have to focus on Jesus and rely upon my own understanding alone as it seems our shepards are struggling with teaching truth even it if hurts us or them.

I can relate very much to what you struggle with. I'm a very recent convert, it's not yet two years since I attended Mass for the first time consciously. It was the rite of 1970, but nothing like you described: A 600 year old Gothic church with a real history: in 1526 the place of the first public dispute between the adherents of the Old Faith and the followers of Zwingli (it resulted in a draw - the cities continued with the Reformation, but the rural adherents of the Old Faith were not convinced). Beautiful church, and a priest who celebrated the Mass very reverently. Organ, candles, no modern songs - for me it was a solemn celebration of the Triune God and the Real Presence of Jesus Christ by the Church of all times. And this experience was, what converted me. I learned since that a Mass can also be different: The historic parish church is being thoroughly renovated for six months (no change, just renew the gold plating, clean the walls and woodwork, restore the statues and paintings etc) and so we are in the next village's 1970s concrete church - looks and feels anything but spiritual. Our priest still celebrates reverently when it is his turn, but there is another one who talks about disciplesses and disciples at the Consecration and prays "dear fatherly and motherly God".... that's for me doing penance during Mass :-( Being the new kid on the block I have no idea if such wordings are ok, if the other attendees find it acceptable, so I don't rise a protest. Actually, I avoid now these Masses and attend on those Sundays the Tridentine Mass in a nearby chapel - it's for me not the different quality of the rite that counts, but the reverent celebration.

God Alone. And then we will have everything else in abundance. Maybe not material things, but love and family and most importantly, God will truly be first in our lives. Keep faithful.

For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, [i]much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns us from heaven. 26 And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” 27 This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let’s [j]show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire.." The shaking going on is causing us to penetrate God more deeply and more passionately, to redefine our core faith, refining our habits and behaviors ..to go against the flow makes us stronger and more effective in our walk in our Faith. Stay the course ... rooted and grounded in LOVE.. His for us and ours for Him and the world ,who is in great distress and darkness. Peace and Viva Cristo Rey.

I am nearly 60. I remember as a child the mystery of attending Holy Mass on Sundays. I remember everyone getting dressed in their Sunday best. The smell of perfume, white gloves and hats. The ringing of the bells upon arriving at Mass, and the bells during the liturgy. The smell of incense. The kneeling rails, the alter boys, and the Paton that went under your chin when you received the Holy Eucharist so that no piece should drop to the floor. The seventies encouraged receiving in the hand, the removal of kneeling rails, removing the Tabernacle over to the side of the Church, Modern music, and come as you are dress. Just prior to my attending grade one, everyone learned Latin at school, and then it ended. I am a TRAD. Proudly call myself a Traditional Catholic, but like you still struggling because we are in this world, but not of this world. The struggle will intensify. God Bless you in your honesty.
