'I'm still top of the draft': Eiserman highlights improvements as stock falls

Ойын-сауық

Cole Eiserman set a new goals record at the US NTDP, but saw his stock fall over concerns about his overall game. "I think I'm still top of the draft," the winger insists. "I really improved from the first game to the last." Eiserman drew inspiration from watching Auston Matthews score 69 goals while being nominated for the Selke Trophy.

His stock has slipped because he's a one-trick pony, pretty much only scores goals. Very little to the rest of the game; he doesn't play much defense and doesn't contribute much to transitioning the play into the offensive zone. There's some physicality but he tends to chase hits which opens up opportunities for the other team. While he set scoring records and undeniably has the best shot in the draft, the concern is that his scoring doesn't translate as much to the NHL as the competition and goaltending gets much better. Currently with no other skills to fall back on if he's not scoring, he could very well end up like one of the many other high goal scoring prospects who never made it in the league. Personally I'm more optimistic on him, I think he has the drive and desire to round out his game and I think he'll make it happen, but that's the general consensus that has caused him to slip in the rankings.

Im real iffy on my Sharks picking him. Apparently he's real good friends with Celebrini. He's got a great shot... But so far, that's about it. Knocks are defense, not "selfish" but wants to do it all on his own.. I think he's young enough to improve but he has to make strides now, not 2-3 years from now. Having a Will Smith or Celebrini to feed him passes, set him up would help though.

@@kryten09How many 17 year olds are that great at playing defense ? The hardest thing to do in hockey is score goals and I’m sure after a couple years in college he will be much more rounded.

I think it’s mainly teams overthinking tbh. I see and recognise the flaws, but his level of goalscoring is extremely rare. And I think comparisons to Wahlstrom are really lazy, their way of getting goals is incredibly different, Wahlstrom was always a perimeter shooter, Eiserman will get down a dirty and do everything to score (not to mention Eiserman's goal totals were much higher than Wahlstrom's). I think the fact he’s been on the scene for a while isn’t helpful for him either, scouts almost had too much time to nitpick his game, and it’s easy to forget his one of the youngest players in the draft, and has a lot of developmental runway still. I personally think if he falls out of the Top-13, some team is gonna be laughing all the way to the bank
