I went the same route, 360 and the a PS3. I loved the PS3 for Killzone, Uncharted, Demon Souls, Infamous, God Of War, and mainly all the first party exclusives which 360 stopped offering half way through the 360 life cycle and started focusing on Kinect trying to catch up with Nintendo and the Wii. HOWEVER, the PS3 was a slog to play anything else. The majority of 3rd party games on the system were awful in terms of graphics, resolution, loading, and especially frame rate. Skyrim on PS3 was a travesty, NFS games were sub 30fps, GTAIV was a disaster in terms of fps. most other games were 720p or lower and sub 30fps. It was awful for many reasons the PS3 was just too hard to code for, the hardware was too complex. Whereas Nintendo and Microsoft used industry standard IBM PPC chips Sony made their own custom chip. A single core IBM PPC and included 8 smaller SPE cores, 1 of which was disabled due to bad yields, and 1 was used for security so devs only had 6 on offer and 1 main CPU core. And then the RAM was split 256MB for CPU and 256MB for GPU this was another huge mistake. And their GPU was god awful, based on Nvidia's 7800GTX which missed the mark a lot and got quickly replaced by a 7900GTX later. Nvidia weren't given enough time to deliver a good product. So devs had to try and make up for the weak GPU by off loading graphics tasks to the 6 SPE's on the CPU... Graphics tasks needs to be done in parallel this was extremely hard to pull off on a CPU at the time so devs didn't bother and just used the single main CPU core. Only first party devs like Naughty Dog took advantage of the true power of the PS3 and even then they were held back on other fronts such as a split ram and weak GPU. The 360 used a tri core semi-standard IBM PPC CPU which was tried and tested, devs knew how to use it. And an ATI GPU which had the first truly unified shader engine (PS3's GPU did not). Couple this was a shared pool of 512MB RAM and 10MB of super fast ES RAM inside the CPU. Games ran and looked a ton better on the 360, had more stable fps, higher resolution, and thanks to the ES RAM virtually zero performance impact when forcing 4xMSAA, which was later replaced with FXAA to help push graphics further.

I picked up Deadpool and Driver San Francisco both with manuals for £5 at a car boot sale last week. Fantastic games. The God of War games and Dante's Inferno are fantastic on this system too. The PS3 is an amazing console.

Managed to revive my ps3 slim after replacing the disc drive & thermal paste my ps3 slim is working like new again! Can't wait to revisit some of my childhood games. Still a great console! Wished TwistedMetal 2012 online was still active!

Absolutely love the ps3

Such an amazing video! Just genuine thoughts spoken out loud. I was just taking a walk during hot sunny day and listening to this like a podcast, occasionally looking at the screen. Recently I’ve been hit with strange wave of nostalgia for 7th gen consoles (which is odd, because I was a PC player all the way and my only time with 360 was when I played Far Cry 3 back in 2013. And I didn’t like the graphics so much, that I sold the console after that one game). Anyway, now I consider buying a ps3 just to deep dive back into the days I missed out on. But the problem is that I live in Ukraine and very little people had these consoles back in the days, so even getting a game for them is a problem. We don’t really have gaming stores like you guys do, if there is something available, it should be searched online. And the prices are nowhere near “5 to 10£”. I am talking about physical copies of course, since I want to feel what it’s like to have a physical copy of the console game on a shelf. My last disc was Portal 2 on PC back in what, 2011? Since then I've just been using Steam. But yeah, the nostalgia hit is pushing me to try some 7th gen and your video just added to the fire haha Thank you so much and have a nice day 😊

Nothing beats going to the shelves and picking up and game and playing. I would 100% recommend anyone getting into the 7th generation, if you can at least. The PS3 was/is a great console, I live in Portugal and my cousins who are living in Germany gave me their PS3 Slim in late 2019. I used to have the 12Gb Super Slim version but when I got unemployed I had to sell it and now I regret it every day but luckily I have the Slim version and I will never sell it. I'm playing NHL 13 and other Games (Modern Warfare trilogy, Uncharted trilogy, Gran Turismo 5, Splinter Cell trilogy and a few more).

@@lawnasRetro Indeed, a while ago I also bought a Pre-Owned PS2 and I'm having a blast playing Gran Turismo 2 for the first Time in many years, here in Portugal is a little hard finding Retro Games and now I'm on a hunt for both Bloodrayne Games on PS2. Today I got Crash Team Racing for PS4 but the Update is killing me, I now that I can get an external SSD but I'm saving money for a PS5.

That’s the issue with ps4/5 titles they take so much space up and you’ve always got to do updates! External HDD or SSD is fairly cheap in the interim though

@lawnasRetro It's cheap but has alot more to other than what you get from other consoles that say that they're plug and play,only to see that they are not really plug and play meaning that you still require having to download from a computer in order to play them,was looking at the kinhank ranges, the pro 5 latest console,said it was a plug and play console only to discover that you have to still have a computer to download the software and then be able to play them,I was going to get one but then seen some if the problems people had with this console put me off buying it.

Never really been into like a retro emulator, not much experience with emulation itself either but you can’t argue they give great value, like you said if you do your research and find one worth the money for sure!

You mentioned the original Xbox Duke controller but in between that and the 360 there was a revision that is much closer to what would become the 360 controller

Yes. At least in the case with PS5 having no proper ps3 backwards compatibility (streaming doesn't count) and free online. So many exclusives you can't get anywhere else too not even on the PC like Tales of Xillia

Weird, for me the PS3 is the reason why I don't buy consoles anymore, because that's when they started to be just less powerful, locked down PCs. I also don't like wireless controllers. There's nothing worse than not being able to play when you have the time, because you have to recharge it first and the charging cable is way too short to short to play with it plugged in. And I can play most of those games on PC now! I got my PS3 back in 2016 because at the time the games for it were way cheaper to get than PS2 games and I also didn't have a Blu-Ray player yet. But I wouldn't buy a replacement now if it stopped working, because I barely ever used it in those 8 years.

@@lawnasRetro It was also the generation where consoles lost one of the greatest advantages they had compared to PC. Before the PS3/Xbox 360 you could just put a game into a console and play. But from this generation forward, you had to install them and download patches(both took a lot more time than on a computer). Suddenly you had to worry about unfinished games and bugs on consoles as well. Let's just say, I didn't like the direction the consoles developed into and spent more time playing on PC. Still keeping all of my retro consoles just in case I want to play them again. But I didn't buy any newer model after the PS3 and have no plan to do so in the future.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Demon's Souls, Dead Space. All best played on a ps3. Just like gravity rush is only good on a vita

PS3 is worth $500 over PS5. What a disappointment PS5 is. The PS3 is the second best PS after the PS2 with the PS5 being beneath the Vita. Glad to see the PS3 getting is just due love today. The exclusives saved the PS3 and now Sony no longer want to keep their games exclusive.
