If you're smart about how you diagnose problems, you often don't need to do that. For instance, he had multiple ram sticks already. Nothing stopping you from just using them individually to test for a bad stick/memory channel. Some parts like hard discs/ssds you can just run a computer without. Power supplies can be tested with regular electronics test equipment.

@@GODCONVOYPRIME if you have no interest in pc building or electronics in general just yknow... don't build your own pc, especially with high end stuff where you'd lose hundreds of dollars if you're not knowledgeable enough. there's always the choice of spending extra by making another, much more knowledgeable person assemble the pc for you or buy premades. it's not a "tall pedestal" its just any other hobby really.

I thought I had the worst luck with PC building but... You win man, you win. I built a PC when Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was coming out, and I wanted one that could run at least medium to high settings. What I ended up with was an $1900 DVD player and internet browser that pushed low double digit frame rates on games that had come out 6 years earlier and intermittently blue screen of death (BSOD) a couple times per week. Finally had the courage to try again about 15 years later with Cyberpunk 2077 and luckily it works as I had hoped, with only a couple case fans crapping out after a year.

My niece and nephew started watching PC builds on KZread and thought it was easy. I then had the pleasure of watching them suffer after ignoring my warning. More than anything I'm annoyed at the KZreadrs who have years of experience with computers and electronics but act as if most people will automatically know half of this.

because building pc's is easy pc parts are literally made to be put together modern pc parts are straight up designed to connect to each other as easily as possible if you mess up connect the wires and plug the thing into the correct slot the video told you to its honestly you being dumb or not following instructions if you have faulty parts you just got bad luck and you can just return them and get new ones lol

He just had bad luck, just follow a tutorial and you will be fine. Or use a building service like nzxt where you choose all the parts and they build it for you. Dont buy a prebuilt

@@JacJac515 pc parts are not fragile, at all. In my build I have a scratched motherboard, stil working, and i dropped my 2060 on the floor before installing it, still kicking. Caddicarus was just unlucky. Just see how many time Linus drops pc parts and they still works.

So, I'm spanish, and without a doubt, the funniest part of this video for me is hearing Caddy pronouncing spanish meals' names. Never gets old.

Caddicarus spent the equivalent of $5,172.17 for a gaming PC that drove him up the wall In short, Caddy was saddy because the whole process went baddy EDIT: All the replacements brought the total to $10,323.28. Very baddy...

I've built roughly 10 PCs over the years for myself and others, and never ran into these kinds of problems. He really did have the worst luck ever. Like, hooboy, he might actually be cursed and needs a priest to come by and sanctify him and everything in a 100 meter radius of his house. Cause it wasn't JUST that PC he was building, it was also a laptop and a desktop. That there tells me there is more going on. Hell, while he did test the wallsocket, I'd still err on the side and get a UPS for a steady flow of power that wouldn't be dealing with any fluctuation. Because something is up, and it would atleast protect his new editing PC.

@@Calvinatorzcraft yeah, I feel like that's what did Caddy in most of all, building a PC during the pandemic, not only are the parts difficult to find (due to popularity and scalpers) and twice as expensive but there's also a chance you can get faulty equipment.

This is one of my favorite videos that I put on in the back at least once a month and I've watched this all the way through at least 30 times

funny thing is, if you tried to build a PC now you would've spent double with the increased GPU prices

Aw dude I'm sorry this happened to you. I've worked in the IT industry for 15 years and I still run into problems like this where clients don't have any extra cash to throw at the problem and it makes it all worse. It's why I still use a 3rd Gen i5 PC at home as I've been through 4 different motherboards and can't afford to upgrade to anything current.

How did you not go criminally insane from all this. My god, I would've had a mental breakdown and destroyed of after just half of what you went through.

Yep. The "PC-building community" loves to downplay the cost, the risks, the stress, the pain... PC building sucks, and I say that having built half-a-dozen of the things. Anyone that isn't a serious 'tech-head,' I'd recommend buying prebuilt or a console. The markups are worth the grief. (And never, ever, ever would I dare to try to build a PC even approaching the size of a console. Life is too short.)

Building a PC is actually pretty hard for some things, and you HAVE to know what you're doing, and even if you do, there's a chance that some of the bullshit Caddy just went through might happen, especially if you live in the UK because of incredibly petty Brexit bullshit. ITs know what they're doing, and if they offer to build you a computer, USE THEM. LEARN FROM THEM.

This is like the really annoying people on forums that turn up when you're googling a problem, they say they have the same problem as you, but then edit their post saying "don't worry I've fixed the problem now" without ever saying _HOW_ they fixed it. The Verge: literally destroys their computer and wears a rubber band as an anti static wrist strap. It works no problem Caddy: does everything he was supposed to and careful with every part, contacts knowledgeable people about building a PC. Every single attempt is a failure Luck can be cruel

Let's face it. We don't actually know if that particular build of theirs on The Verge video worked. They might have very well shown a different machine at the end.

I highly doubt that they actually used the build they showed in the video. A team likely fixed as much as they could off camera without making it look too obvious.

There's the combination of horrible luck and the fact that he didn't do his own research beforehand. Though, I can understand that this decision was somewhat of a hasty one.

as a pc builder myself, never having laid my fingers on a prebuilt in my life (im 28), im so so sorry for you and the experience youve had. this video took me on a rollercoaster man.

This video actually convinced me never to build my own PC under any circumstances, because the very last thing I need is to give myself 3 heart attacks at once by stressing out over the possibility of any of these things happening to me.

Got recommended this video randomly and holy shit this guy is hilarious. I love his energy and animation style!

Caddy deserves SO much more respect for what he does.

I, for one, would love to see videos voiced by you, and animated for BoyMyLife. I would enjoy that immensely. He got your humour, and complimented it to great effect

The animation work on this is amazing! Nightmare story though, PC issues are the absolute worst and I don't think i've heard of anyone having it this bad before

Tip for troubleshooting the random restarts: Disable automatic restart on system failure. By disabling that you'll allow it to show you a blue screen of death, which would help point towards what the issue may be. Also, as someone else said, you must be cursed when it comes to PC building.

Please make more of the animated videos! You are a great storyteller Caddy!

First time is always a terrifying and slow experience, especially if you're assembling it yourself. While I do swear by PCs myself, I completely understand how daunting this task is and how stressful it can be. Here's hoping with everything running properly by now that you'll have a happy healthy machine for a good decade at the least.

I am a big caddy fan and I saw this video 3 years ago only somewhat getting it. Now I’m in a computer hardware course trying to get my degree and I’m figuring out the issue with the video.

Friend sent me this video and this is one hell of a rollercoaster ride, I never thought someone can have this much bad luck.

Quite literally a murphy's law situation.

Just saying for the record Caddy that this video is a comfort video and I have no idea why? Whenever I'm stressed I watch your content and this one specifically always makes me laugh. I've had the worst three days of my life with phones and I need a phone because my neurodivergent brain can't handle being without reminders, so watching this after having the worst technology struggles makes me laugh and feel just a bit better.

I think he said Crash in this video more than in Bandicoot Month.

Watching this before and then after building my own PC is a totally different experience wow I have to say...just about everything that could have gone wrong went wrong with that build.

Watching this after my C drive died and wouldn't go past the BIOS screen (losing all the work I had done for my next video), this video really makes me feel better and reminded me that things could always be worse. Thanks Caddy!

I feel for you man. Since this January I promised myself I'll never build a PC again, I feel constant guilt because of how expensive it was and sooo much problems with it that at the end it just felt unrewarding..

I will always wonder what video we lost to this incident

good luck, my pc died and i had to buy a new gpu + motherboard and in this time and age, it wasnt easy to find a graphic card in stock.

I just bought a pc that will be custom built by professionals, I am so glad that I chose not to buils myself, partially due to the difficulty of finding gpus and cpus that id want. I may have to wait for about 2 months before it comes, but i am willing to wait if it means that there should be no issues on my end

i feel so validated by your struggles here, ive been deing with rampant issues with no clear fix, and ive been grasping at straws for like 2 years now, but im glad its all working, even if im 2 years late

You know, last year my computer broke down on Christmas Day, so I had to wait a few days before I could buy a new one to replace it, which was infuriating enough already, but then when I did so, said new computer seemingly contracted what I think is best briefly described as the PC equivalent of a malignant tumor for no apparent reason other than that it was just a lemon right out of the box, so I had to take it right back to Best Buy and get a new one. Needless to say I was pretty frustrated by all of that, but hearing about your absolute horror story of an experience puts that incident into perspective to say the least. So thanks for that, Caddy.
