Mike, I believe that you have oversquare and undersquare the wrong way round. A larger bore than stroke is oversquare.

I'm glad someone cleared this up for me. I'm not familiar with the K-series but couldn't figure out why someone would go to a torque configuration over an rpm configuration on a track car. If he had the terms reversed = makes total sense now.

Forget the 535 outside, I was gawping at the Lotus Carlton!
Great update. I bet you don't sleep well at night with all of this going thru your brain! I'm always looking forward to seeing you work on any of your projects. You have natural talent and a great skill set that gets even better with every project. That all makes it fun for us all to watch!

😂 Hes such a detailed person. I could imagine and I've thought of it before.
The Kei car racers in Aus and Malaysia will agree with you the K20 is the racers engine especially for reliably pushing a car around in upper RPM range. Cant wait to see 2024 vids..
Ooh Lotus Carlton parked next to your 528i 👌
very stoked for this year for you mike. some good ideas you laid out here and im here for em. get it dude. keep doing what you do dude!
I can't tell you how much I love the fact that you had to build a Ferrari to learn about Honda motors. I was wondering why you didn't start with a K20 but I figured it was cost related but I'm grinning from behind my keyboard. 😁
Can’t wait for another year of awesome projects and updates! And congrats on the truck! The new shop/camping rig.
13:18 the Lotus Carlton on side 😮, def a badass sedan
How did no one talk about the lotus Carlton outside???? Didn’t even know any of them made it to the US???
I love the content, it's just nerdy enough that I actually feel like I walk away feeling like I learned something. I hope one day you, or a similar channel will do a Factory Five kit car.
My E36 is going on 16 years with me, and I have a very similar feeling to you about yours. It's frustrating, but it's never leaving my hands. There is a lot of magic and memories in that car, and I'm sure it's similar for you with yours. Luckily you've got the ability to hold onto it without any worry, and you can take your time really figuring out the direction you want to go with the car. Best of luck! I've followed your E36 since you were sorting the wiring on BF.c, so you know I'm going to be tuning in as soon as I see any mention about it!
Love the approach and the journey this whole 308 project has pushed the tuning world - it was one of many, but one of the best mos def. On the K20 swap, and given the ethos of the project, I wouldn't even waste the time and funds. The truth is what benefits any and every engineer ever - TAKE A STEP BACK. The engine you're looking for doesn't yet exist, but soon will. Bench it, keep nailing the suspension and braking, add back in some ergonomic comfort, balance in more user enjoyment while the world keeps pushing drivetrain boundaries.
Happy new year Mike. Lots of projects there!!! Too many? I hope not. Take care and hope 2024 isn't too stressful for you.
Thanks for the updates! Looking forward to seeing the new project, whatever that may be.
never really looked at your subscriber #. I figured you were in the millions based on coolness of cars, scope of projects, and skill of work. Best wishes for 24, I suspect your subscriber number will blow up
So cool to see the channel taking off like this. Psyched for pretty much whatever's next.
Mike, the e36 is top! Tnx for the video with updating the keys and locks, that motivated me to find a donor set and replace them as well. As the owner didn't have the matching trunk lock, I'll try to fit the pins from the passenger side, as it does not fit to my compact (it has no lock there). I'll put the process on my channel, as it might help someone like yours video helped me! You'r a huge inspiration to keep editing and posting videos 🌶
Great update! Forgive me for forgetting his name, but the camera work and editing looks really really nice- cheers to 2024! 🎉
Man, what an exciting video for 2024, it seems like you're super enthusiastic about this year. STOKED!
Good things ahead, still love your content. Good luck for 2024
Looking forward to your content this year. Makes me get out and try stuff myself.
Regarding the E36: is it the end goal that you’re romanticizing, or would it be more realistic to fall in love with the journey? With projects like this one, as difficult and taxing as they are, we’ll probably never be truly “happy” with an end result because they’ll never truly be finished. If we stay focused on the horizon, we forget to enjoy the road directly in front of us. Love it for what it is! It’s nostalgia, passion, growth, evolution. It’s a running and driving symbol of your past, present, and future. Love the journey, because that’s what life is all about!
Mike, your e36 was an inspiration for us, remember when we were working on our e30 s50 euro sepc. you put the S54 into the E36 and we thought how is it possible. a photo of your car hangs in our workshop. now I am the happy owner of a 318is s54 dakargelb and it's all thanks to the inspiration of your e36. greetings from Poland
13:00 next to that white BMW turd is a Lotus Carlton! A very rare car and even more rare in the US.
Mike, I think a K20 suits your applications better. As far as I remember, the K24 and K22 use counterwise rotating balance shafts in order to handle bad vibes in high revs. Sometimes less is more.

hey bro, love all your content. a real pleasure to watch and listen. THANKS
100% the episode I was hoping to see. Excited for 2024!
looking forward for this amazing year at Stanceworks. You got this Mike!
Thanks Mike!
Love the updates, projects and truck!
E28 is also my attainable dream car, love to see it. Awesome update, best of luck this year Mike!
Totally get the disappointment and burn out from a car. I just got the 3rd engine in my project fired up only to realize I put the clutch in backwards and have to pull the engine yet again.
7.3 Godzilla FTW!!! Congrats on the tow rig, very underappreciated part of vehicle projects!
Can’t wait to see you start the new build and see the model A finished up and at a new home
Ive never been an old school beemer or audi fan, what drew me in was the Ferrari and that car is absolutely mental and i loved watching it turn laps cant wait to see it back on track
Great update! Excited for the next project
Really excited for you in 2024, uber keen to see what you do this year bro 🤘 ❤
Happy New Year, Mike! Some stuff need to be sold to fund the Ferrari's evolution & the new project, sad though it is. I sold tons of rare parts & my other cars to get the Viva to where it is today. Still have 1/3 as many parts to sell! That & sell off investments before it's done. Yes it hurts, but i want to be able to enjoy it before my arthritis (caused by too many stupid accidents & decisions over the years) puts an end to my fun! Cheers. Leigh. PS: I saw a tube chassis build for an E30 somewhere today...
Love the E28. My dad had one when I was in high school. Still miss it almost 40 years later.
Yooooo Let’s go for 2024!!! So stoked
Find a trashed/friends (Amir) k20 block to mock everything up and get the Ferrari ready so when the motor shows up can plop it in and be close to being ready to go. We want you at SLB on non test laps!
Super excited to see the new project Mike! Also we would love a video on your 5 series if you ever get the desire to make one :)
SO STOKED!!! I haved just buy you 3 shirts to help finance all of that haha. Keep going Mike you are a source of inspiration for all of us.
Making good use of the flat floor also requires a very stiff setup so that you don't stall it on braking - either because the diffuser becomes over extracted and flow separates, or because the splitter hits the ground and your whole floor stalls. Its really unsettling when a bunch of your grip goes out the window on braking ... 😅
Well Mike, I really hope your channel grows this year.
😮Lotus Carlton Junk😮 Looking forward to the new builds and a new year👍 keep up the great work dude!
Looking forward to what this year brings!!
Looking forward to all the upcoming content!
Been waiting all year for this video
The new project will be more epic than ever
Mike thanks for the update. ...love the old school Ford Motorsport hat!
Did you get an idea back from 4p as to why the engine failed? ( I know the pin was discovered in the last video ) I have a similar problem with a 4p engine, the SAME failure happened. I was wondering what they came back to you with....... they werent super nice on this end.
@James-dx9ho

What was your experience with 4P? Been hearing a lot of bad things lately.
When people like us go too long without fabricating we get antsy 😂. The feeling is real! My wife will often tell me, you're being weird, go build something!
Fine! Have it your way, I’ll just keep watching every single episode and maybe buy a shirt until my favorite car on the channel (Quattro) gets moving again!!!! Great work, I’ve been sharing the videos and I hope the channel goes nuts on subs for 2024
That lotus Carlton in the background is the best car of the lot
When the beautiful Audi Quatro first came out as a short chassis I was working at Silverstone race circuit, they had a press day and the Audi went 0=60 mph and back to a standstill in 6 seconds, you have an amazing example don't fu-k it up x
Mike and a cup of coffee is a great way to start my day. Love the updates
Dude, i remember you from the mye28 days and it was always good seeing what you were up too. Dont ever hesitate to throw up some more e28 goodness.
Hopefully, the next project will be a tube framed "proccar" M1 reinterpretation. And put all the Ferrari learning into.
Nice build 🎉
Slick production Mike....nice 😉
i look forward to your inboard suspension video
Higher rod length to stroke ratio is king for making power reliably, I wonder if it is worth doing what that 4A package is which is using the stroker engine block (K24 in this case), using a non stroker crank (K20 in this case) and using really long rods to raise the piston up enough to make a normal compression ratio in the taller deck height block. Greatly improves the angle of the rods. In the 4A case they went to a custom crank that had an even shorter stroke than stock to get insanely high rpm but I dont know if a destroker crank for a K20 is available other than an offset grind
In the been there done that category, think twice about changing to the Carli Suspension before towing with that Tremor. I’m not saying the Carli can’t/won’t tow but that soft supple ride comes with a trade off while hauling. Keep building cool stuff, I dont care what it is
14:40 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEE COME TO THE RIDGE!!!! I live down the street and would love to get a chance to meet you!
Nice Lotus Carlton next to your 528!
I had a E28 years ago. I really liked that car. I t was so nice to drive and have fun in
You better be writing that truck off your taxes. Love this channel.
good luck to you in new 2024 and stil baller
If you put a K20 crank into a K24 block and use a longer rod. You'll get the reduced piston speed advantage from the shorter stroke. While also improving the rod ratio over a K20 block. (Less sideways force into the cylinder walls, good for high boost) And also have the advantage of that most of your existing parts will fit up without any modification as the motor will be externally identical. So I guess that's the question - is a long rod / short stroke K24 build more expensive than the extra costs associated with fitting a K20 and having to remake everything because of the shorter block. Looking forward to seeing the car back on track, good luck.
The higher the intake pressure the hotter the air gets. Maybe that big turbo is not such a nad idea. Maybe you just need an antilag system to keep it spooled through the corner
Mike, you have great taste in vehicles. Love the E28 as well as the new truck. Here is an idea for a project that would require serious fabrication. How about a wide body E36 wagon with the S65 under the hood? That would be wild.
Timestamps would be useful! Keep doing the great work! Cheers from Croatia!
For my project cars, when I start hating them, I've found the best cure is to restore them as cleanly and as closely as possible to stock. Comfort goes a long way towards making you like a car.
Awesome update. With a K20 with the 244 GTK get a re-name?
Can't wait to watch the next project. And don't think we don't notice that other 308 behind you!

I thought he said he was storing it for a friend in a previous video?
Mike, perhaps your unhappiness with the E36 can be resolved with listing the issues and fixes instead of having undefined possible problems that are creating the unhappiness? You do it so well with the other projects and your skill has grown tremendously, so this car can now also get that pro treatment!
That Lotus Carlton needs a spotlight. Absolute monster.
I guess you have to change the livery to K20?
Yes! That Ferrari will be screaming around the track! 👍
K24 block with K20 crank sounds nuts. But the custom conrod is $$$$
Don’t do this modification on the front suspension… make it a little higher (eg half an inch) and adjust your bound/rebound. Probably change your springs to softer ones. As of the engine… keep it at 600hp and keep the pedal to the metal.
The engine swap done right , tuned and ready will take 6 months Mike, just pace yourself...better for your health :)
9:56 might be a weird question, but why did you choose the RT615K instead of something like a RT660?
Yay! some Model A content. Love that car Mike and don’t take this the wrong way but I hope you’re stuck with it so I can at least still see it. Way above my budget…probably too tall for it too 😞
Great truck choice
I love the wheels on the Audi, very period correct 👌. The Audi need to get going ,please. I am waiting for this build. Could you maybe share the balancing process of the rotating assembly in a video!!!!!! Honda guys will tell you that the K20 is the way to go. Stronger, higher revving and handles more boost. Correct decision on the Ferrari 🤙
Ferrari 204 GTK time, haha. A lot of BMW track guys do a similar thing to what you're doing, aka going from a 3.2L crank which has a huge stroke that causes harmonic issues, down to a more rev-happy 2.8L crank that can turn laps all day long at high RPM's without backing off the oil pump nut or snapping the oil pump shaft entirely.
Sad to see the model A go but I´m excited to se whats to come. :)
Great to see that you are excited to start off 2024. So will you rename the Ferrari when you change the engine to the K20? Good luck all around.
Can't wait to see the Model A driven on track, or at least at speed. I'm curious how noticeable the...let's say sub-optimal aerodynamics will be.
Duuuuuudeeeeee don't clickbait me like that😂 thought you were selling the K-Rary for a second. Got my heartbeat up for good.❤ Love your vids man. Very nice to see someone not letting a "finished"/sema'd car die. Love how you just abuse the thing and keep improving on the ways you can abuse it more :D
You mentioned wanting to reduce spring rates. After you lowered the car, did you make suspension changes to correct for roll center? Lowering a car will cause more body roll because the roll center is moved further from the center of gravity and this creates a stronger torque on the leveraging effect during cornering. I was just watching a video today where the host said that if you correct for roll center, then you can run softer spring and sway bars which will give you more grip since a stiffer setup reduces traction.
@stanceworks
4 ай бұрын
All of the suspension geometry has been changed, I designed my own control arms and uprights to make use of the wider fenders and to fix the scrub radius. The roll center should be correct but it’s hard to say without a true cad model of the car.
I resonate with you and the E36 completely 😅😅
VIR is my new favorite track! Maybe I will see you there.
