I'm Returning the Fuji xt50

Ғылым және технология

I picked up the xt50 with the 27mm TTArtisans lens as an alternative to the x100VI. While it is a great camera, it just wasn't for me.

Why would you want a sensor that doesn't capture higher detail? You can remove such detail in post-processing or in camera using negative Clarity and Sharpening values, but you can't add it if your older sensor isn't giving you those details in the first place. I know which I prefer. Raw and post-processing makes everything about colour rendition a moot point too.

Thanks for sharing a very personal perspective. I ordered the XS20 3 days before the release of the XT50. I thought about cancelling the XS20 order but I knew that camera specs do not necessarily translate to good shooting experience. Thanks to you, now I do not have to worry about regretting my purchase and just go and enjoy shooting with the XS20 :) . Couple of thoughts about different features; The simulation dial on the XT50 could have been implemented like it is on the XS20 with a blank dial that is set to film simulation by default with option to set for other functions. I actually had the dial set to ISO and later set it back to film simulation after trying it out. The latest firmware update added Reala Ace without any change to the functioning of that blank dial. The 40MP sensor was a big draw but I do find that I am still able to do a lot of cropping on the 26MP. Like a lot of people trying out the Fujifilm system, I am still on the waiting list for a X100VI. I agree the XS20 is not a replacement for X100VI (love "consolation prize") but as a travel camera where more than one focal length is desirable, XS20 and XT50 makes a lot of sense in their compact size and compact lenses.

@@one901 The cost of the X-T50 is not due to the sensor/processor, it is purely a function of profit margin. They kept the X-T30II current so that they could charge more for the X-T50. The X-S20 costs the same to make as the X-T50, it has the 26mp sensor for faster sensor readout, not because it is cheaper to manufacture!

Reminds me of the comments years back when the USA started to make smaller cars and the complaints came in - 'love the smaller car but it won't tow my horse float'. I am and XT5 and XH2s owner and have just purchased an XT 50 because of its small size. Life is one long compromise and if my pinky does not have anywhere to hang out on the camera so what. I find it rests easily under the camera, on my palm. I do a lot of travel photography and I grew tired of lugging around the XT5 and a 16-80mm lens all day and, because it was the only kit readily available at the moment, due to the popularity of the new XF lightweight zoom, and decided to settle on the XC 15-45mm, my first ever XC lens and am really happy because it is genuinely light and, for travel, has excellent IQ.

I also returned the xt50. It fits my hands fine. I loved the size and weight. I also found the film sim dial useless. For $1400, I couldn't get past the lack of any weather sealing. I do like the xt50. It is a great $1000 to $1100 camera. It's not a great $1400 camera.

I used the Film Sim for some people at an event that were asking if they could get Black and White photos which I almost never take but with the Sim I switched the dial took photh BW and RAW with Viltrox 75mm from bout 40-50 Yards away and because of the resolution I was able to crop into a decent portrait or capture of someone singing and playing. Game changer for me, because I would have had to wait to get into LR and edit instead I was able to air drop them the photos and make a quick buck :)

The XT 50 would be a great little travel camera. However to your point the ergonomics on cameras are a big deal for sure. Personally the XS20 or XS10 fit me better deeper grip. Don’t start on the fixed vs changeable lens…if you want to shoot with one lens just no worries but give yourself choices especially in travel. The tactile dials…agree with you not a fan. Much easier to keep my eye in the viewfinder and hands on the camera with the design on the XS20. That design allows me to press the drive button and go to bracketing, film simulations etc. with the toggle in a fast and ergonomic way.

Bruuuh! I literally had the same problem after I bought the XT5. I had the X100V, XT30, XT3, and an XPRO1 and 2. I sold the XT5 for a few reasons (I didn’t like the weight distribution and handling), but the main reason was the sensor. It’s LIFELESS. Too sharp, too many megapixels, and files were waaaaay too big, even the JPEGS. I know some folks love it, but coming from the older cameras, it was an unnecessary upgrade. Glad SOMEONE finally said it!
