When I got my first job, at the time I was heavily addicted to social media Insta, FB and others beforehand. I wasn't able to focus on my work, my manager used to ask me what is the issue. Adding the travel time of 2 hrs to and fro, my whole day usually was spent in office. But at night, I wasn't taking proper sleep, I used to compensate night time for my dopamine boost and watch youtube, insta for no reason, just addiction till 2 or 3am. Used to wakeup at 8am with heavy head everyday, feeling not fresh at all. This thing piled up on my mental health and I was feeling depressed overtime, feeling lonely, used to randomly cry riding a motorbike. Left my job being 2 years there. I am still coping with this. I have somehow now have less addiction than before, but its a long journey. Need to have discipline in life. Well done bringing this topic Vimoh.

This is me 4 years back. I did it. Focused on personal growth,intellectual as well as physical. Started with social detox, moved on to digital detox. Learned few things, became agnostic atheist. Some of the stuffs that helped me is self help books and channels on KZread like aperture and pursuit of wonder. Books atomic habits. Yeah lost lot of friends, they laughed. They are still laughing but I don't mind now. I believe they lacks perspective to see the world. And we only behave according to our knowledge(actually assumptions, there is no ultimate knowledge. Whatever we know is only an approximation.) Recently I was on a reading slump😢. Sometimes I feel knowledge is power, sometimes Ignorance is bliss. Trust me ,a day without smartphone will make you truly appreciate every moment you live. The day feel very long, you have so much time. I miss a time when we used to get bored. I am 30years old and 3.5 years old atheist agnostic. Actually I never felt so much alive since I let go of mandatory societal norms. Digital detox is worth it. Thanks for reading so far and wish you strength h and will power in what you wish to achieve.
Discovered you through one of Meghnerd's livestreams, and I've been watching your videos for a while now. While I find many of the arguments and conclusions at least debatable, I must say it's a pleasure to observe a genuine rationalist. I thought there were none left in India. Keep doing what you do brother.
I too agree with same concern. But there is another problem. As mobile operators will stop 2G network soon and force public to get 4G or 5G SIM, not sure whether these 4/5G SIM will be fit or compatible with those Nokia phone which we used to have only for call/message in early days.
This is my serious problem 😢

KZread can be disabled from settings, that helps a lot. Also make your phone less attractive by using greyscale.

Hi vimoh Below is what I feel 1) I feel for instance you are travelling remotely there are few safety apps which you might want to use Also you can have a picture / evidence if there is any mis happening 2) instead delete those apps which we think are potential ones which we can’t live without Example insta , FB etc and ensure we confine them to desktop 3) as you rightly mentioned these videos are automatically popping up And I felt for good and bad reasons For me I found out the right groups became of my selection Anyway social dilemma is a good one to watch ! And yes this is a good idea To confine the v needed apps like wallets , imp apps to smart phone Good to have apps on desktop And delete the so called addition social media apps for good amount of time This is so tough to do but yes we can give it a try Even I used to read a lot of books and that remained as a memory now

Yeah the web versions of so many apps are so frustrating that you give up on them soon enough(me/insta)

Greyscale, low brightness (power saving mode) and using social media through web mode only are effective ways to focus more on work. Also, bhai emotional kar diya bg music ne. aisa lag raha tha ki whatsapp pe 2014 ke time deep thoughts wale videos aate the, wo wapas aa gaye, lmao.

Vimoh it's need of an hour, my avg screen time is 10hrs and i can't think about leaving this phone etc. It's impacting me drastically, i can't read, can't focus for more than 1 hour. Idk what to do but it's a menace for sure. Hope we all can get over it as soon as possible
I think even if we won't quit it permanently we can do one thing. Set up a time limit or something like after night this time suppose 10:00 clock I won't use phone and next morning prepare a list of work which i have to do which can be done without smart phone or internet and do those low dopamine works before ever opening smartphone. After opening smartphone do not dive directly into high dopamine things, first do those work now which need to be done WITH the smartphone, after that is done... We can actually reward ourselves with some high levels of dopamine because it will act as a motivational factor too... And again leave the smartphone at suppose 10:00 clock at night so that it won't be a hindrance to sleep schedule and we actually get a good sleep so that we can focus on tomorrow's work again 😊

Much needed reminder... tips turn off all the notifications for all the apps use or use apps like minimalist phone ,It helps Also try to use the phone only when needed or use it as a reward system i.e, after I complete x work only then I can use my phone for sometime. Try it out it helps

Very sensible decision, Vimoh. A lot of research have been done that clearly show how social media, smartphones have drastically reduced our attention spans. So if you are writing a book (or even read serious books) you need to give it the lengthy and concentrated time period it demands. And do you know something, one of the great literary writers and essayist of our generation, Arundhati Roy, never uses any social media platform. By the way, Vimoh, what do you think Nokia would feel about the new name you have given to its feature phone, "dabba phone"!
We can use the digital wellbeing option in the settings option. You can set a timer for social media like 30 min in a day post 30 min u r app will be locked for the rest of the day. It worked well for me.

I literally brot a word search puzzle book today to keep me busy during commute and home too so as to lessen my screentime
Last three years I started slowly reduced smart phone usage. Instead of using smartphone for everything I started using pocket notepad to remember any task, write anything important points. Uninstall all the unwanted apps. I only use KZread that too with limited subscribed channels. I don't use it in the app but in the browser. I limit only for certain time to watch or even in the weekend after accumulating all the stuffs. Most of the podcast I plug earphone and don't watch the YT.
This is the biggest problem of my life I don't even watch shorts and don't have insta but I am addicted to long KZread videos. Even though I only consume educational content and some entertainment content here and there but I can't get over KZread. It's significantly hard because I study also from KZread. Tried to give up many times failed each time.

No problem with YT. Other social media apps are unnecessary
I have been trying to do it for a while, minimalist phone app works wonders, with patience it actually decreases screen time and also reading books. Lastly mindfulness and seeking outside phone experiences

The mere feeling of if we will be successful in detoxing ourselves may lead to the detox itself. What we need is to enjoy the process without thinking about the process too much....let it happen naturally. Our body and mind is capable of becoming habitual of the environment so there should not be how? and when? but is to be in the environment for a long exposure. The environment is not bad or good it is a choice. Therefore, one can not use a mobile phone while having it with oneself , what is need is some time, patience and resisting the temptation only for that highest spike of it and the rest will follow.
Keep a tab for social media & a old phone for calls Also use call divert
I have been able to reduce usage of smart phone without switching to a regular phone. It can be done. Although I started this process back in 2016-17 when we weren't so fucked up. I realised memes were such a waste of time and left Facebook and twitter. I kept using insta till 2018 and then left from there too. I removed apps like KZread and kept them for use on tablet only. Many a times we make a huge deal out of something that is fixable. We only need to be more mindful in each moment. I was addicted to Facebook because I had a decent following and a history of using it since 2010. The minute I objectively analysed how bad these arguments were, I gave up easily with some level of self negotiation, obviously. I am telling you, we all will eventually realise this and leave or alter our behaviour. It's just a question of when and what would be the trigger point. The sooner, the better. And it would be helpful, if enough people said it without sugar coating what a terrible waste of time it is.
I replaced it with my laptop, with phones you are reduced to a consumer With a computer you can produce things as well
I have started using minimalist phone app for android on my smartphone , lets see how it goes .

I just use flight mode during my work from phones. Even we can do some work on the phone by using in flight modes. It works well during online reading and watching recorded video lectures. Spend some quality time wid those ones who u want to, it'll refresh quite more, like a reboot.

Hi, I don't think it's a sensible idea to be on flight mode for extended period of time as it turns off your sim also. Suppose if a family member, or a close friend need to call you SOS, on an emergency basis, what would happen then? I think the best thing is to turn off the notifications of all social media and other apps when you are concentrating on something else.

@@BubuDuduForever v can use wakie takie phone wid another sim. Differentiate sim 4 personal and occupational ones. Better than flight mode, u can just turn off the mobile data. So that, only v can recieve calls.

@@bikram1312 I can't turn off mobile data as I need access to google search for my research work. So turning off notifications for certain social media apps like KZread, whatsapp, etc, is my solution. But yes, for others turning off mobile data is a good idea.
Well I have already started doing this months ago , also the nokia 105 in your hand supports UPI payments if you update it , I have succeed it a bit but I wasn't consistent, after watching this video I will try to get more consistent as now I have support of fellow comrade vimoh too

I watch KZread videos via smartphone, also access WhatsApp, fb Messenger, , Instagram throu smartphone only.... Also read plenty of things from Google via smartphone only... What to do?
Isn't this extreme? I hope it will work for you, but it won't work for me personally. I can only go outside with a smartphone because there are things for which I need my smartphone, not any dabba phone, like cab booking, online payment, Google Maps, etc. However, I followed a technique that drastically reduced my smartphone addiction, which I want to share. I gave two types of labels to each of the apps on my phone (necessity and addictivity); if any app is unnecessary and addictive, I uninstalled it; if an app is necessary and nonaddictive, then leave it as it is; if unnecessary,, and nonaddictive than you can either uninstall it or leave it as it is it will not impact too much, but If an app is both necessary and addictive, you have to customize the app in such a way so that addictive part reduce, like disable notification, put a strong but rememberable password on the app, etc. This way, you can not zero your addiction but at least get rid of intense time-wasting activities on your phone.

Join a gym Working out keeps you away from the phone for sometime (unless you are not an insta gymmer) It has helped me a lot , the health improved and screen time was reduced
I am off social media. Increased reading. But spend too much time on KZread. I have decided to start a planned 30 day activity regime. I have the plan chalked out. I remember doing a 10 day Vipassana course that was helpful in revealing how hooked up we are. And i am fully aware how insidious and difficult it is. Also, now our world is very digital, so we cant cut off because then we wont know how to even live. BUT, i now feel, technology should be of use and not for self abuse. I will track how I fare! Nice to see more and more people are waking up to this.

It'll will definitely improve the creativity of mind . I also purchased a feature phone nokia 2660 flip which helped me to build my creative world . While everyone one was using their smart phone in the classroom during free time, I kept thinking about subjects like astronomy & Philosophy during college times . By that I started Reading books which is a wonderful experience for me . Btw I'm 17 year old teenage boy. We can do this together
